*Kelsey & Liz: Toughing it Out for a Cause - Rebelution Nov 21, 2009, 12:15 am
Whether it is making the cover of ESPN Magazine or garnering attention in local papers, rebelutionaries are helping make teens good news again. Joining those ranks are Kelsey Jurewicz and Liz Matthews from Pennsylvania — who raised $2,500 to provide clean water to third world countries. In the process they demonstrated care for others, effective collaboration, and perseverance in the face of discouragement. That breaks quite a few stereotypes about teens. Take that, low expectations!

*Dollar for a Drink 2009 - Rebelution Nov 18, 2009, 10:16 am
One of the most exciting stories last year was Dollar for a Drink — a campaign by 16-year-old Joshua Guthrie to raise $10,000 to build a well in Sudan. With a big response from rebelutionaries, youth groups, and young people around the country, Joshua met and exceeded his goal. Now the well that he (and you!) paid for is providing clean water for over 6,000 people in the Darfur region of Sudan.
This year Josh is back with an even bigger goal. Once again, he needs your help to achieve it. You&

We weren’t familiar with the Pocket Testament League until a few weeks ago when someone handed us a pocket-sized Gospel of John. In the back it included the challenging question: “What’s in your pocket? Keys? Wallet? Small change? Why not use your pocket to change someone’s life by filling it with the power of God’s Word?”
We discovered that the Pocket Testament League has been around for 116 years and has distributed over 100,000,000 Gospels around the world

Raising Kids to Do Hard Things - Rebelution Nov 4, 2009, 11:59 pm
Ever since we started this blog, and especially after Do Hard Things was released, we’ve gotten tons of emails from parents who want to know what our parents did to raise us kids. Our response is always that we’re far from perfect, but by God’s grace — and largely through decisions our father and mother made before we were born — we’ve seen God use our family in ways we never could have dreamed.
Our dad is our hero. Nobody has influenced us more than he has — both

It was certainly no accident that we stumbled across this blog post from John Piper the morning our show aired on Focus on the Family. What a wonderful reminder that every good thing is a gift from God — and we can’t take any credit. Piper writes:

Preschooler’s Letter Helps Feed 18,000 - Rebelution Aug 3, 2009, 1:57 pm
There are many reasons given for why someone else (i.e. not you, not me) should do something to help the needy and oppressed. However, being only five-years-old probably tops the list of effective cop-outs. But five-year-old Phoebe wasn’t looking for an excuse — and helped raise $34,000 to feed the hungry. Which makes you wonder: What if we stopped looking for excuses too?

Tim Tebow is an amazing quarterback. But more importantly, Tim Tebow is a Christian, with a passion for proclaiming the gospel. From his missions work to his eye-black, Tim knows what really matters — and it’s not football. By God’s grace, he stands as a stellar example of how to use your platform to magnify the Lord.

This summer I’ve been making a concerted effort to listen to sermons and audiobooks in addition to my regular reading — as a way of redeeming time while running, working out, or driving. It’s been very productive.
I’d been hearing a lot of good things about Francis Chan’s book Crazy Love, so when I heard ChristianAudio.com had made it their Free Audiobook Download for the month of July, I downloaded it immediately. Over the past week I’ve been blessed by ChanR
*The Invincible Determination of Wilberforce and Buxton - Rebelution Jul 14, 2009, 5:51 pm
Alex and I have long admired William Wilberforce for his tireless dedication in pursuing his holy ambition. One year after coming to Christ, Wilberforce wrote in his diary, “God Almighty has placed before me two great Objects, the Suppression of the Slave Trade and the Reformation of Manners.”
Over twenty years later, Wilberforce succeeded in abolishing the slave trade in the British Empire — but not slavery itself. As he continued to work towards emancipation for existing sla
*Are You Easily Edified? - Rebelution Jun 30, 2009, 7:44 pm
I don’t know about you, but I sometimes find myself suffering from a sense of over-familiarity with God and the gospel. Reading my Bible doesn’t excite me. Listening to sermons becomes routine. Even worship feels common and mundane. At times like these I crave something new and compelling to jolt me out of my spiritual rut. I figure that if I only had a better devotional book, a more powerful preacher, or a worship band with slightly more musical gifting, then my heart would become
*The Abortion Debate is Changing - Rebelution Jun 16, 2009, 8:56 pm
Though overshadowed by the recent murder of abortionist, Dr. George Tiller, the abortion debate does show signs of shifting in a pro-life direction. For the first time since Gallup began tracking the issue, a majority of Americans consider themselves “pro-life” — a reversal of 2006 numbers. Other studies indicate that our generation is the most pro-life generation since Roe vs. Wade — and we can attest that no other cause excites greater devotion among rebelutionaries.

In a slight departure from Brett’s and my normal blog protocol, I am very excited to announce something I’ve wanted to share with all of you. *Video: 12-Year-Old Speaks Out on Abortion - Rebelution Feb 25, 2009, 7:24 pm
Brett and I have received a lot of emails about this video (and rightly so). Despite being threatened with disqualification for her controversial topic, 12-year-old Lia chose to deliver this speech for competition at her public school in Toronto — and won! Now her eloquent defense of life has been viewed almost 400,000 times on YouTube — and even saved a baby’s life.

We Must Be Constant Worshipers - Rebelution Jul 20, 2008, 12:02 am
Let's be honest - nowadays, when someone mentions worship, most people think of music. You know, that time in the church service when everyone sings. Lots of Christian recording artists make 'worship projects” with hit singles on them.
However, if we search God's Word faithfully and look to mature Christians who possess wise insight, we will quickly see that worship is much more than songs. Worship is what we were created for, it's what we'll spend eternity doing, and it encompasses our he

For some reason Alex and I have a certain penchant for stories about twins doing hard things — so we were very excited this past week when we heard the story of Megan and Mandy Chapman, twin sisters from Russel County, Kentucky. Several of you have requested that we make a post explaining the difference between what we call “big” hard things and “small” hard things ??? which means that many of you weren’t around when we made that post back in February. This is our fault since we forgot to link to the post on the sidebar and it was quickly buried in the archives. To make full amends here it is again. Let us know what you think!
