A week or so ago I ordered a Breast Cancer planner from Breast Cancer 101 You can also follow them on Facebook | CANCER101 I know breast cancer doesn't define the woman, so this planner provides one place for breast cancer patients to write their notes, keep track of their appointments, and insurance and keep it separate from other records and planners. It also has a very helpful dictionary to look up the medical jargon that sometimes comes flying at us pretty fast. I particularly like the
1. Last week I talked about how I had learned better how to let go and let it be. But sometimes, bound by conscience, you gotta make your case. And then retreat and let everyone else follow their own consciences. I'm pretty good at making the case. Not so good with the retreat although the days and weeks to come will be a better test of how I'm doing on that one. 2. I made time for one on one time with Noah. We took a long 1-hour walk together over some pretty tough terrain. We also talked

When Calvin was growing up I couldn't afford to own a camera. I used mostly little disposable cameras or the very old Argus film camera I inherited from my grandma which was older than me! I spent a lot of money on prints that just weren't quite as nice as I wanted them to be or that were really bad to begin with, but of course I didn't know that until I had them developed. So I was very enthusiastic about digital cameras when they came out, but I couldn't afford those either. A good friend

I just caught the Oprah Winfrey interview with Sarah Palin today and I was very pleased. These were two very gracious and charming women who were very respectful of each other and full of good humor. With SLO having surgery on Friday and then recovery after that, homeschooling is going to have to go into survival mode for a while. This isn't the first time this has happened. We faced it earlier this year with my mom's illness and before that with my still birth and even with pregnancies and childbirth. But I have managed to work out a few strategies that help us to get through times when my attention has to be divided. 1. Concentrate on the essentials. For the younger kids that means ma

Celine Dion was raised a Catholic. She underwent fertility treatments to have her first baby who was born in 2001. The rest of her embryos have been frozen since then and although I heard and read that she planned to go back and use those embryos it didn't happen until this year. In the meantime she did a stint in Vegas and pursued her career.I think a lot of young women look at celebrities and fertility treatments as a way to "have it all." But I think this is a good example of how that might

My father-in-law, Isadore, was a World War II veteran. He saw action in France and Africa. He was severely injured in the war - the family joke goes that he was 100% disabled so he came back and fathered 9 children! Mr. Pete says his dad never spoke about the war. Once his daughter asked him why he never went to any of the reunions with his war buddies, and her dad answered because none of his buddies made it back. His body was riddled with shrapnel after a bomb exploded over head. Some

I know quite a few great guys named Marty, but never actually knew much about this saint. However since my kids are 1/4 French from their Dad's side, I think it is important to teach them about saints from their heritage. St. Martin seems to be for France what St. Pat is for the Irish. There are several wonderful stories about St. Martin. At one time in his life he was a soldier and once he was out in the evening carrying his lantern when he came upon a very poor, shivering, naked man. So
