Eating Chocolate Prevents the Flu, Study Says - An Infant In a Cradle Oct 21, 2009, 9:45 pm
A recent study concludes that eating chocolate every day prevents getting the flu.A member of my church stated this evening that he has eaten chocolate every day this fall and he has not gotten the flu. He asked his students if any of them had eaten chocolate every day. One had, who had not gotten the flu. A student who had gotten the flu had not eaten chocolate every day. Thus, the conclusion of his study is that eating chocolate prevents the flu.Looks like I need to stop for Hershey's bars on t

*Almost No One Believed in a Flat Earth - An Infant In a Cradle Oct 16, 2009, 6:13 pm
Justin Taylor links to a myth-buster, exposing the truth that almost no one believed in a flat earth. On the topic of busting the myths of anti-Christian propoganda, I'd highly recommend Philip Sampson's book 6 Modern Myths About Christianity and Western Civilization. Specifically, he addresses (1) Galileo, (2) Darwin, (3) the Environment, (4) Missionaries, (5) the Human Body and sexuality, and (6) the Witch Trials.

*1-in-4 are Muslims, Study Reports - An Infant In a Cradle Oct 13, 2009, 11:42 am
The Pew Forum on Religion and Public Life reports that there are 1.57 billion Muslims in the world, after conducting a first of its kind three year study of the Muslim world. Some of the results might be surprising. For example:...Germany has more Muslims than Lebanon, China has more Muslims than Syria, Russia has more Muslims than Jordan and Libya combined, and Ethiopia has nearly as many Muslims as Afghanistan."This whole idea that Muslims are Arabs and Arabs are Muslims is really just obliter

*Though I Was Born an Orphan - An Infant In a Cradle Oct 2, 2009, 9:51 am
In his article on Orphan Sunday, Russ Moore suggested that "for some of your worship leaders, [Orphan Sunday] might be a time to build up the body in song with some of the recent hymnody about orphan care and our adopted identity in Jesus. That got me to thinking about hymns on orphan care and adoption. So, I wrote one yesterday.I'm sure that David and I will edit it some and perhaps give it a new tune. But, for now, here is the first draft, singable to Aurelia, the traditional tune of "The Churc
*Why Orphan Sunday Annoyed Me (and Now Does Not) - An Infant In a Cradle Oct 1, 2009, 2:43 pm
I'll admit it: I was annoyed to learn that Orphan Sunday is November 8th.Annoyance was my initial reaction to the first sentence of the Baptist Press editorial, "Orphan Sunday," written by my former professor Russell Moore, but not for the possible reasons he listed in his opening paragraphs. It is not that I have anything against Orphan Sunday per se. Nor do I have anything against caring for orphans. In fact, I'm thrilled at the revival of interest in concern for orphans, including Dr. Moore's
*Ligon Duncan endorsement of Carolyn McCulley - An Infant In a Cradle Oct 1, 2009, 8:00 am
Carolyn was once deeply influenced by feminist thinking, but came to see the bankruptcy of that worldview. She wants you to understand why much of what women learn about what it means to be a woman in today's culture (whether it is taught in college, read or heard via the media, or assumed in society) leads to a dead end. More importantly, she wants you to know why the Bible's view of womanhood inspires joy and peace.~J Ligon Duncan Hear Carolyn McCulley speak at The Northbrook Conference for

Instant Starbucks? - An Infant In a Cradle Sep 29, 2009, 9:39 am
Apparently, Fivebucks Starbucks has a new instant coffee drink, Via.I was under the impression that instant coffee was bad, therefore uncool. Now, it's good (and, of course, pricier than the stuff your grandmother drank).Being cool is so confusing.
Al Mohler endorsement for Carolyn McCulley - An Infant In a Cradle Sep 28, 2009, 8:00 am
Carolyn McCulley is a great speaker with a radical idea - that the Biblical understanding of womanhood is a radical vision that confounds the culture and conveys grace. She is a Biblical voice for the recovery of Biblical womanhood. ~Albert Mohler Hear Carolyn McCulley speak at The Northbrook Conference for Women, October 16-17, in Cedar Rapids, Iowa.
*Tullian Tchividjian on the Coral Ridge Controversy - An Infant In a Cradle Sep 26, 2009, 8:00 am
Christianity Today posts a worthwhile interview with Tullian Tchividjian on the recent attempt to fire him as pastor of Coral Ridge. Here's a sample:If you were an unchurched person reading about dissident church members trying to oust their pastor, how open would you be to seeing Christianity as the answer for your life? Not very open. Francis Schaeffer once said that division inside the church gives the world the justification they're looking for not to believe. This conflict ensued because thos
