ChinaAid: Another late-term, forced abortion victim revealed

ZHENGJIAMEN, Hubei, China, June 29, 2012/Christian Newswire --

ChinaAid published yesterday a story from the Southern Metropolis Daily reporting on the "induced miscarriage" of Hu Xia, who was seven months pregnant with her second child. Local officials in Shangche township, Jianli county of Hubei province, claimed that Hu Xia's family could not pay the fine and described the abortion as "voluntary."

China's family planning agencies have received negative publicity over the past several months, as cyber-journalists and Chinese families have challenged the brutality of the "one-child policy." ChinaAid broke stories about recent forced abortion cases in Hunan and Shaanxi provinces that spurred outrage and debate both outside and inside of China. In the case from Hunan, Cao Ruyi was able to keep her child after local officials were faced with unwanted media attention. The Hu Xia case is the latest case to appear in the Chinese press.

"Another life was lost unnecessarily to advance China's 'one-child' policy, which cannot be sustained without violence and coercion," said Bob Fu, ChinaAid's President. Forced abortions are not a choice but violence against women and their unborn children." "International attention can help save some women from violence in the short-term, but consistent international condemnation is needed to help convince Beijing that this policy makes a rising China look barbaric and backward."

Chinese human rights defenders, cyber-journalists, and families faced with "voluntary" forced abortions are increasingly challenging a hated policy, both because it leads to violence against women and because it is creating a two-tier baby system, rich families who can bride or pay huge fines for a having a second child and poor families who cannot. China has the highest suicide rate in the world among women, a fact many believe may be linked to strict enforcement of the one-child policy.

Personhood campaign continues in OK primary; sweeping victories for pro-Personhood reps

OKLAHOMA CITY, Okla., June 27, 2012/Christian Newswire --

A national campaign to secure victories for legislators who support the recognition of the rights of the preborn and unseat personhood obstructionists continued Tuesday night in the Oklahoma primary election. Representative Guy Liebmann, who voted to prevent the Oklahoma Personhood Act from moving forward, was defeated. Additionally, all six House members who voted to allow the pro-life bill to proceed to a full vote and had a primary opponent won their party's nomination for the general election.

The Oklahoma Personhood Act recognizes that human life begins at conception and affords all unborn children "at every stage of development all the rights, privileges, and immunities available to other persons." The bill sailed through the state Senate by a vote of 34 to 8 in February, and received a "do pass" recommendation from the House Public Health Committee.

The bill enjoyed the support of every pro-life Oklahoma organization including Personhood Oklahoma, Oklahomans for Life, the Oklahoma Eagle Forum, the Catholic Archdiocese of Oklahoma City, the Catholic Diocese of Tulsa, and the Baptist General Convention of Oklahoma's Ethics & Religious Liberty Commission.

House Republican leaders stalled the Personhood Act until the final days of the session. After pressure began to mount from the state's pro-life citizens, House Speaker Kris Steele released a statement claiming that the party caucus was surveyed and declined to hear the bill. Pro-life stalwart Rep. Mike Reynolds' last-minute motion to suspend the House rules and bring the measure to a full vote was blatantly disregarded by sitting chairman, Speaker Pro Tempore Jeff Hickman.

A similar citizen-led personhood initiative was stricken by the Oklahoma Supreme Court on April 30th. Personhood USA is appealing the decision to the United States Supreme Court where a favorable ruling would overturn the 20-year-old Planned Parenthood vs. Casey pro-abortion decision.

The Oklahoma primary vote continues the trend in a string of victories for pro-personhood lawmakers. North Dakota Senator and personhood supporter Joe Miller defeated incumbent Senator Curtis Olafson in the June 12th primary. Olafson single-handedly killed two personhood bills in 2009 and 2011.

"The Oklahoma personhood movement has just begun, and already they've shored up victories for every friend of the preborn in the state House," said Keith Mason, President of Personhood USA. "In the coming months, they will have an opportunity to demonstrate their resolve to end the killing and protect children of all ages by love and by law."

"I don't want to be a father yet"

by Béatrice Fedor

Planned Parenthood Action Fund's Facebook page displays a timeline picture with a notable man holding a sign: "I don't want to be a FATHER yet... Mitts off her Birth Control". A woman wearing a pack of pills costume is part of this communication campaign.

Fewer and fewer Americans support abortion and some, including presidential candidate Mitt Romney, have called to defund Planned Parenthood over abortion (hence the "mitts" reference to Romney).

If people oppose Planned Parenthood over the issue of abortion, why the fuss about the pill? Contraception is widely available at reasonable prices and Planned Parenthood is not the only provider on Planet Earth. It seems that, in an attempt to gain people's support, Planned Parenthood is trying to switch the focus from abortion to a less divisive issue. This is part of their "war on women" fear propaganda where opposing abortion supposedly means outlawing contraceptives.

Secondly, what about the young man's message? He wants the sex, not the consequences. He is letting potential sex partners know what he won't do for them: "if somehow you get pregnant, I won't step up and be a father to our child". How is this being a defender of women? ...

Bush admin's promotion of abstinence pays off

Family Research Council/June 20, 2012 --

The abortion movement is losing more than Americans' support. A new study shows that it also lost a significant chunk of business between 1990-2008. During those 18 years, the government says the abortion rate plummeted by 32% among women in their early twenties. Although the decline was smaller for women in their late twenties, there was still a noticeable drop (6%) in the older demographic.

According to experts on both sides, abortion rates are down across the board - a victory FRC celebrated in February when the government announced that the teen abortion rate had plunged by 59% from 1988 to 2008. One factor helping to build a culture of life is the growth of pregnancy resource centers, which FRC documents in A Passion to Serve.

Pregnancy rates, birth rates, and abortion rates have all fallen off--a trend that most liberals are chalking up to increased birth control. But taken together with another recently published report from the Centers for Disease Control, abstinence seems to have been a major factor.

After eight years of prioritizing abstinence education, the country may finally be seeing the fruit of President Bush's emphasis on "save" sex. Unfortunately, when liberals took over Congress and the White House, they not only zeroed out abstinence education, but they made teaching it a disqualifying factor for federal grants. Time will tell if the birth rates can withstand the administration's multi-million dollar, Planned Parenthood-style "if it feels good, do it 'safely'" sex education. As the Bush years are starting to show, self-control is a good personal policy - but it's also good public policy.

Abortion proponents admit defeat at Rio conference

by Tim Hermann

RIO DE JANEIRO, June 20 (C-FAM) --

In an astounding show of solidarity, a diverse group of countries rallied together with the Holy See to successfully remove any mention of reproductive rights or population control from the final outcome document produced during the last round of UN negotiations at the Rio +20 conference this week.

For the past six months, the UN Population Fund (UNFPA) along with Norway and Iceland, and Catholics for Choice and the International Planned Parenthood Federation, have worked feverishly to take advantage of the Rio +20 conference on sustainable development in order to promote both an international right to abortion and population control.

Catholics for Choice distributed a number of publications and statements with the obvious goal of the Vatican's unique influence within the United Nations as a Permanent Observer. In a recent briefing paper, they claim that the Holy See's "tendency to insist on outlier positions that situate it far from those of the prevailing consensus" undermines "international consensus on human rights and roll back the clock on norms and principles that are equally valued by United Nations members."

However, the negotiations in Rio this week show that the Holy See, far from being an "outlier" among nations, is a leader of consensus. Along with the Holy See, Nicaragua, Chile, Russia, Honduras, Syria, the Dominican Republic, Costa Rica and Egypt all rejected the introduction of "reproductive rights" into the Rio +20 outcome document....

Christian Medical Assn: HHS birth control mandate similar to China's views

WASHINGTON, June 18, 2012/Standard Newswire --

The 16,000-member Christian Medical Association (CMA) has filed official comments opposing as "unlawful, unprecedented, unwise and un-American" a U.S. Dept. of Health and Human Services (HHS) rule that forces virtually all health insurance plans in the country to provide free contraceptive pills, devices and surgeries on demand regardless of users' ability to pay.

The CMA document deplores the fact that "The administration is instituting a decidedly un-American policy that (a) classifies pregnancy as a disease requiring mandated treatment and (b) advocates the prevention of child-bearing as a health care cost savings. Unlike communist leaders in countries like China, Americans historically have not viewed pregnancy as a disease or children as an unwelcome product posing a cost burden."

The comments of CMA and other groups were filed with HHS before the June 19 deadline for public comments on the rule, which has generated nationwide protests over what opponents consider a frontal assault on religious freedom, since the rule does not exempt most religious employers who object to the drugs on moral grounds.

CMA CEO Dr. David Stevens noted:

The contraceptives and sterilization mandate affects all people no matter what their faith is, and it is an attack on our first and most precious rights. Religious freedom and respect for conscience are among the most important issues that all people of faith face. This is a battle we dare not lose.

CMA Executive VP Dr. Gene Rudd added:

While researchers continue to debate whether certain mandated drugs labeled as contraceptive may actually end the life of a developing human embryo, the mandated drug Ella almost certainly has such a post-fertilization effect; it's the only way to explain the effectiveness rates claimed for the drug. What we have learned during this debate over the potential abortifacient nature of certain contraceptives is that those with a social agenda will deceive to achieve.

The Christian Medical Association document asserted that the HHS mandate is unlawful and unprecedented in that it violates abortion-related provisions of the Patient Protection and Affordable Care Act (the law under which the mandate is enacted), federal laws protecting conscience rights and constitutional protections for religious liberty and just compensation.

CMA also noted that besides violating constitutional religious liberties, the mandate also "offers no accommodation options whatsoever to protect secular conscientious objectors."

The CMA comments conclude, "The administration retains only two realistic options regarding this unlawful, unprecedented, unwise and un-American policy: rescind the policy or face defeat in the courts. The CMA encourages rescission of this policy in its entirety."

More information on the mandate and comments from other organizations are available online.

ADF calls on U.S. leaders to condemn forced abortion atrocity in China

BEIJING, China/Wednesday, June 13, 2012/Alliance Defense Fund --

The Alliance Defense Fund is calling on U.S. political leaders to condemn the atrocity of forced abortion in China in the wake of graphic media reports that the government recently forced a woman seven months pregnant to have her baby aborted.

"This is nothing less than a crime against humanity. Every innocent life deserves to be protected, and no woman deserves this type of barbaric, dehumanizing treatment," said ADF Director of Global Activities Benjamin Bull. "ADF calls upon our leaders in Washington to thoroughly condemn China's practice of forced abortion and demand that it stop immediately. This is one event, but it is undoubtedly only one example of many more such forced abortions that occur in China."

Chinese family planning officials in Shanxi Province reportedly beat the woman, Feng Jianmei, and dragged her into a vehicle while her husband was at work. Officials then demanded an exorbitant fine from her family. When they didn't produce the money, the officials aborted her baby seven months into her pregnancy.

Botched abortion at clinic caught in dumping scandal

THE BRONX, N.Y., June 13, 2012/Christian Newswire --

An ambulance transported a patient to the hospital from Dr. Emily's Health Center abortion clinic in the Bronx, New York, yesterday morning as pro-life activists photographed the incident. Witnesses, who wish to remain unnamed, told Operation Rescue that the victim was carried out of the clinic on a covered stretcher to the awaiting ambulance.

Watch YouTube video -- Bloody Trash At Dr. Emily's Abortion Clinic

"This incident is something we have expected to see at Dr. Emily's abortion clinic," said Troy Newman, President of Operation Rescue and Pro-Life Nation. "Late last year, we were involved in an undercover investigation at this same facility where illegal dumping was taking place. From the sloppy way Dr. Emily's was handling its trash and patient records, we suspected dangerous abortion practices as well."

In January, 2012, complaints were filed by Operation Rescue against Dr. Emily's and its abortionist, Brian E. Park, for numerous violations including the illegal dumping of infectious waste and private patient information after pro-life activists discovered trash piled on the public sidewalk and spilling out of an unsecured dumpster. The trash was in black unmarked plastic bags. When the activists opened the bags, they were shocked by the contents.

The bags contained the following:

  • Bloody human tissue remains from abortions and other bloody refuse.
  • Documents and other materials that contained patient names, and other identifying information along with information about medical procedures done on the patients.
  • Drug-related paraphernalia including drug vials, syringes, and used needles.

"Unfortunately, someone tipped off the clinic that someone had been in their trash. Dr. Emily's moved the trash so when the Sanitation Department went out there, they did not discover the same conditions. Since then, the case against abortionist Brian Park has been closed and the illegal dumping case has been swept under the rug. Bloody evidence in possession of pro-life activists that was supposed to be picked up by the Sanitation Department was never collected. It is appalling that this public health threat was not taken more seriously," said Newman.

"We were told that Dr. Emily's is a repeat offender, which should have made the consequences of further violations more severe. Instead, the authorities did nothing. We can't help but think that if action had been taken on the dumping complaints, perhaps the woman injured yesterday somehow might have been spared."

China: Woman forcibly aborted at seven months

(WARNING: Graphic images)

SHANXI PROVINCE, China, June 12, 2012/Christian Newswire --

Women's Rights Without Frontiers has learned that a woman was forcibly aborted at seven months of pregnancy on June 3, 2012.

According to a report by the China-based human rights organization 64Tianwang, the woman, Feng Jianmei, was beaten and dragged into a vehicle by a group of Family Planning Officials while her husband, Deng Jiyuan, was out working.

The officials asked for RMB 40,000 in fines from Feng Jianmei's family. When they did not receive the money, they forcibly aborted Feng at seven months, laying the body of her aborted baby next to her in the bed. Feng is under medical treatment in Ankang City, Zhenpin County, Zengjia Town, Yupin village.

Reggie Littlejohn, president of Women's Rights Without Frontiers, stated, "This is an outrage. No legitimate government would commit or tolerate such an act. Those who are responsible should be prosecuted for crimes against humanity. WRWF calls on the United States government and the leaders of the free world to strongly condemn forced abortion and all coercive family planning in China."

Obama attempts to diffuse national Religious Freedom Rallies with online "women's health" townhall

CHICAGO, June 7, 2012 /Christian Newswire --

This morning, the Obama White House is holding an "Online Women's Health Townhall" meeting, one day before the Stand Up for Religious Freedom Rallies take place in over 150 cities throughout the country.

"Is this some kind of desperate response to the huge rallies that we've organized, with tens of thousands of people speaking out against the HHS Mandate?" asks Stand Up Rally national co-director Eric Scheidler. "The timing of President Obama's forum seems deliberate, perhaps his way of trying to spin this controversial issue in advance of tomorrow's rallies."

Tomorrow, June 8, at noon local time across the country, tens of thousands of Americans in 160 cities coast to coast will take to the streets in public protest against the controversial HHS Mandate during the second nationwide Stand Up for Religious Freedom Rally.

One of the scheduled guests for the online forum is HHS Secretary Kathleen Sebelius, one of the architects of the HHS Mandate, which forces employers to provide contraceptives and abortion-inducing drugs in their health plans regardless of their religious or moral convictions.

"Secretary Sebelius' participation in this White House Forum shows how deeply committed the Obama administration is to imposing the unconstitutional HHS Mandate on the American people," added Scheidler. "And it underscores the need for the kind of massive, grassroots protest that is hitting the streets of 160 cities in tomorrow's Stand Up for Religious Freedom Rally."

Scheidler also noted that those opposing the HHS Mandate have been dominating the comments on the White House forum's Facebook page. "Many women are offended that the HHS Mandate treats pregnancy and childbirth as a disease requiring mandated preventive care, and they're speaking out, both on Facebook and at tomorrow's rallies."

The Stand Up Rally will be held at federal buildings, Congressional offices and historic sites in such cities as Chicago, New York, Detroit, San Francisco, Minneapolis and Philadelphia. The full list of rally sites is available at StandUpRally.com.

The date for the Stand Up Rally was chosen to highlight the HHS Mandate's unconstitutional infringement of religious freedom, coming just weeks before the highly anticipated ruling on Obamacare from the U. S. Supreme Court, expected at the end of June.

The Stand Up for Religious Freedom Coalition held their first rally on March 23, with over 63,000 citizens of all faiths attending local rallies in 145 cities. 28 Catholic bishops, along with scores of Protestant and Jewish religious leaders, participated in the first rally.

Parental rights amendment introduced in House

WASHINGTON, June 6, 2012 /Christian Newswire --

A proposed amendment to the U.S. Constitution that would preserve the longstanding traditional right of parents to direct the upbringing and education of their children was introduced last night in the U.S. Congress.

Lead sponsor Trent Franks (R-AZ) was joined by 32 cosponsors in introducing House Joint Resolution 110 in the House. The Senate version, Senate Joint Resolution 42, was led by Senator Jim DeMint (R-SC) and had 9 cosponsors at its introduction.

"We must protect the liberty of parents to direct the upbringing and education of their children," DeMint declared. "Unfortunately, parental rights are under attack, and a safeguard like this amendment is necessary. Neither the federal government nor international law should micromanage how parents are able to raise their children. Parents are best equipped to decide how their children are raised and educated, not bureaucrats from Washington and the United Nations."

Supporters anticipate a congressional hearing on the measure, given lead sponsor Trent Franks' position as chairman of the Constitution Subcommittee of the House Judiciary Committee, to which the House version will be assigned.

"In my three decades of public service, I have consistently focused on protecting the right of parents to make decisions for their children," Congressman Franks says. "Put simply, there are really only two options when it comes to who will determine the substance of a child's education: it will be either a bureaucrat who doesn't know the child's name, or a parent who would pour out their last drop of blood for the child.

"I intend to continue that fight in my role as Chairman of the Constitution Subcommittee, doing everything in my power to help advance the vital Parental Rights Amendment through Congress. Nothing is more important to America's future than making sure that the education of the hearts and minds of our children is securely in the purview of the parents who love and understand them most."

This marks the third straight session of Congress in which the PRA has been introduced, and support for the measure is growing. "The PRA had 141 cosponsors in the House during the last session of Congress, but we expect to see even more support this time around," says Michael Farris, president of ParentalRights.org, which organizes grassroots efforts for the amendment.

"The Supreme Court has accurately said that parental rights are 'perhaps the oldest of the fundamental liberty interests recognized by [the] Court,' yet those rights now lack sufficient legal protection under the Constitution," Farris continues. "Thanks to concerned citizens and engaged leaders in Congress, we look forward to correcting that problem through the adoption of this amendment."

For more information on the proposed amendment, visit ParentalRights.org online.

Tens of thousands set to protest unconstitutional HHS mandate in cities coast to coast

CHICAGO, June 5, 2012 /Christian Newswire -- This Friday, June 8 at noon local time across the country, tens of thousands of Americans in over 150 cities coast to coast will take to the streets in public protest against the controversial HHS Mandate during the second nationwide Stand Up for Religious Freedom Rally.

The Stand Up Rally will be held at federal buildings, Congressional offices and historic sites in such cities as Chicago, New York, Detroit, San Francisco, Minneapolis and Philadelphia. The full list of rally sites is available at StandUpRally.com. (Some rally start times vary, check website for time, location and local contacts).

The date for the Stand Up Rally was chosen to highlight the HHS Mandate's unconstitutional infringement of religious freedom, coming just weeks before the highly anticipated ruling on Obamacare from the U.S. Supreme Court, expected at the end of June.

"If Obamacare is ruled unconstitutional, we must ensure that religious freedom will be protected in subsequent health care legislation" explained Stand Up Rally national co-director Monica Miller. "But if Obamacare is not struck down, we'll be sending the federal authorities a clear message that the faith based institutions and private businesses affected by the HHS Mandate simply will not comply with it."

"The federal government has no business defining the scope of religious ministry," said Miller, referring to a "religious exemption" in the HHS Mandate drawn so narrowly that it excludes such religious institutions as Catholic schools and hospitals.

The June 8 Rally will take place on the 223rd anniversary of the day James Madison introduced the Bill of Rights to the 1st Congress, including what would become the First Amendment.

"The First Amendment's historic safeguard of our most basic freedoms is now under attack by the Obama administration's HHS Mandate," said Stand Up Rally national co-director Eric Scheidler. "On June 8, 2012, we will stand up for the First Amendment and demand that all our health care laws respect religious freedom."

Scheidler and Miller have built a coalition of 65 religious and civil rights organizations -- including the Alliance Defense Fund, Association of Mature American Citizens, the Becket Fund for Religious Liberty, Freedom for Americans, the National Black Pro-Life Coalition and the Thomas More Society -- devoted to overturning the HHS Mandate.

The Stand Up for Religious Freedom Coalition held their first rally on March 23, with over 63,000 citizens of all faiths attending local rallies in 145 cities. Twenty-eight Catholic bishops, along with scores of Protestant and Jewish religious leaders participated in the first rally.

With the Supreme Court's Obamacare ruling coming and the November elections in sight, the June 8 Stand Up Rally is expected to even larger crowds with 75,000 people or more across the country.

A woman's right to choose... the sex of her baby?

I objected to Roe v. Wade the moment it was decided, not because of any doubts about abortion, but because the decision was a radical deformation of the Constitution. The Constitution has nothing to say about abortion, leaving it, like most subjects, to the judgment and moral sense of the American people and their elected representatives. - Judge Robert Bork

Those opposed to abortion on demand warned of a slippery slope when Roe v. Wade became the law of the land in 1973. The U.S. Supreme Court's decision gave women the right to eliminate an unborn child for practically any reason. Since 1973, over 50 million American lives have been terminated - some through the barbaric practice of partial-birth abortion (PBA). I'll explain the procedure in a moment.

Now we are faced with sex-selected abortion, the procedure based on the sex or gender of the child. Sex-selected abortions are common in countries such as India and China. The Washington Times reports on this atrocity....
