Fetal pain bill moves forward in Georgia

February 28, 2012/California Pro-Life Council --

A measure that would ban abortions after 20 weeks of pregnancy based on the scientific evidence showing unborn children feel pain passed out of committee and moves to the floor of the Georgia state House.

"Georgia law allows abortions throughout all nine months of pregnancy. HB 954 is based on scientific studies which clearly show that preborn babies feel and react to pain at 20 weeks after fertilization. In fact, some research indicates that pain perceived by a preborn child is more intense than that experienced by newborns, older children and adults," says Georgia Right to Life.

"Pro-abortion researchers try to claim that preborn children cannot feel pain until later in the pregnancy when nerves reach the cerebral cortex. However, since 2007 medical research has indicated that those connections are not essential for a preborn child to experience pain."

Planned Parenthood policy document: Restructure family; encourage homosexuality

STAFFORD, VA, Feb. 28, 2012/Christian Newswire --

After just four days on YouTube, "Hooking Kids on Sex" exceeded 200,000 views. Then, an ex-intern of Planned Parenthood got the white-hot investigative report by American Life League on Planned Parenthood sex education blocked by YouTube. Now, ALL has responded with "Hooked on Sex II." At four minutes in, the revised video reveals a 1969 Planned Parenthood internal document that proposes an official policy of "restructure the family," "forced abortions," "encourage increased homosexuality," and "avoid marriage."

"Even people who thought they knew better were shocked by how Planned Parenthood promotes sex to youngsters," said Paul Rondeau, executive director at American Life League. "Activists alleged that because Joe Camel was a cartoon character, he must be banned to protect kids from smoking. Today, Planned Parenthood cartoons outright tell children to have sex and show them how. These cartoons for ten-year-olds are so sexually explicit that YouTube restricted our first video about them to adult viewing only."

Both "Hooking Kids on Sex" I and II show that Planned Parenthood uses pornographic illustrations, contests, workshops, and even cartoons to encourage sexual activity at very early ages when sexual addiction can start. They also document "no pants sex parties" sponsored by Planned Parenthood with free sex kits and free sex toys for college students.

"Obamacare is structured to guarantee that Planned Parenthood will put this in K-12 schools," Rondeau continued. "So, of course, Planned Parenthood will now deny its strategy is to restructure the family by changing how children view sex."

ALL says the abortion giant used Faerman's claim as a ploy to disrupt the viral explosion of the ALL Report. The revised video is posted on private servers in addition to YouTube so that "Planned Parenthood cannot create disruptions with unsubstantiated claims." Further, ALL has engaged legal counsel and says the new video will not be taken down without a court order.

The new video report, "Hooking Kids on Sex II," is at YouTube.com and an embeddable permalink at ALL.org/ppsexed.

The heart of Obama's "contraception mandate" is abortion

February 27, 2012/Operation Rescue --

by Troy Newman, President of Operation Rescue and Pro-Life Nation

President Obama's so-called "Contraception Mandate" has left many people confused about exactly what the recent Health and Human Services order would do.

This administration, like no other, thrives on bait-and-switch rhetoric to confuse the public in order to forcibly advance a pro-abortion agenda that the majority of the people oppose. President Obama, along with his Planned Parenthood insider, HHS Secretary Kathleen Sebelius, are intentionally mischaracterizing the definition of contraception beyond its intended meaning.

The accurate definition of contraception is an act that prevents the woman's egg from uniting with the male's sperm. It is the prevention of fertilization. Any method that entails the destruction of the developing baby is not true contraception, but is the abortion of an already formed, living, and unique human individual.

In the old bait-and-switch tactic, Obama is luring the public into thinking that the HHS mandate would require that private health insurance companies provide for "contraception" pills and devices to women free of charge. While free contraception seems like a "chicken in every pot" kind of political policy, it fails to take into account the consciences of those of religious with moral objections to sterilization and birth control pills.

If this were not bad enough, when Obama uses the word contraception he actually switches definitions to include abortifacients, which are chemicals or devices that cause early abortions. The devil is in the details, or rather the premeditated distortion of the word contraception.

Obama's "contraception mandate" includes IUDs, the morning after pill, Ella, Plan B, and a host of other prescriptions that are by no means strictly "contraceptive" in nature. These devices and chemicals abort the growing embryo prior to the fetus implanting in her mother's womb.

Obama's mandate also obfuscates the fact that there simply is nothing that is "free." Someone has to pay for these so-called "free" services. The insurance companies simply cannot absorb the billions of dollars in costs annually if they are to stay in business. It will be the employer that must provide health insurance who will be forced to pay - regardless of moral conscience - through higher premiums.

Cutting through the bait-and-switch, Obama is forcing all of us, including faith based organizations, to foot the bill for early abortions through our increased insurance costs.

Let us no longer be perplexed at Obama's agenda. He is forcing Americans to provide and pay for abortion. Obama's mandate should be called what it is: a forced abortion mandate. People of faith and conscience in the United States must wholeheartedly reject this deceitful game.

Evidence that led to Neuhaus' revocation shows Tiller did illegal late-term abortions for years

February 23, 2012/Topeka, KS/Operation Rescue --

By Cheryl Sullenger

An Initial Order released by the Kansas State Board of Healing Arts on February 21, 2012, revoking the medical license abortionist Ann Kristin Neuhaus states facts that show late-term abortionist George Tiller was doing illegal late-term abortions for at least seven years.

"If the evidence presented in Neuhaus' case had been presented during Tiller's criminal trial, there is no doubt that he would have been convicted of illegal late-term abortions," said Troy Newman, president of Operation Rescue and Pro-Life Nation. "This shows that Tiller was doing illegal abortions based on phony mental health excuses for at least seven years."

The revocation order is expected to be finalized by the full Board in April and is the result of a complaint filed in 2006 by this author.

Neuhaus provided the second referral that Tiller needed in order to legally justify the expensive post-viability abortions that was his specialty - and his bread and butter. Each referral issued by Neuhaus was based on a mental health diagnosis that she claimed justified the late-term abortions. She certified that each woman met the narrow legal exception to the Kansas law banning post-viability abortions, which allowed such abortions to be done only if there was the risk that the woman would suffer a "substantial and irreversible impairment of a major bodily function" if the pregnancy continued.

However, the records show that Neuhaus was incompetent. She failed to conduct proper mental health evaluations on eleven patients that she referred to Tiller for post-viability abortions. Her diagnoses were a sham.

NRLC: Call on senators to support Respect for Rights of Conscience Act

WASHINGTON/National Right to Life Committee --

Phone calls to U.S. senators are urgently needed in support of a vital pro-life amendment that is likely to be voted on around February 28, or within a few days thereafter. Please enter your zip code in the "Call Now" box (at this link), and you will be shown the correct numbers to call and suggested points to make during your call.

The amendment has been offered by pro-life Senator Roy Blunt (R-Mo.) and is strongly supported by the National Right to Life Committee (NRLC). The text of the Blunt Amendment is taken from an NRLC-endorsed bill, the Respect for Rights of Conscience Act (S. 1467, H.R. 1179). It would amend the Obama health care law ("ObamaCare") to prevent the imposition of regulatory mandates that violate the religious or moral convictions of those who purchase or provide health insurance, such as the recent decree that virtually all employers -- including religiously affiliated hospitals and schools -- must purchase health insurance plans that cover all government-approved methods of birth control.

AUL: Attacks on VA ultrasound law could result in fatal consequences for women

WASHINGTON, D.C./Feb. 22, 2012/Americans United for Life --

Americans United for Life President and CEO Dr. Charmaine Yoest called attacks on a Virginia ultrasound bill "clear evidence that a powerful abortion lobby is willing to sacrifice women's health and safety for a radical abortion agenda."

The Virginia bill that has passed the Senate and may be considered in the House as soon as this afternoon requires an ultrasound before abortion for the medical safety of the woman. Late term abortions and ectopic pregnancies, for example, pose great risks to women's health and lives. Women given abortion-inducing drugs when pregnant with an ectopic pregnancy have died.

The Virginia bill also stipulates that the mother be offered an opportunity to view the image and hear the heartbeat. Despite numerous false media reports, the bill does not require any particular kind of ultrasound but provides for the Virginia "standard of care" putting the choice for the kind of test in hands of the patient and doctor.

"The misinformation in this orchestrated campaign against this life-saving bill is reprehensible," said Dr. Yoest. "The abortion industry is against any measure that gives women truthful, accurate information about abortion. There is nothing more accurate, more truthful, than a picture of the woman's unborn child. But abortion providers want to hide this information, because their profits depend upon the woman choosing abortion over life."

The Virginia bill is based in part on model legislation from AUL, and AUL's Virginia Coordinator Mark Earley Jr. testified on behalf of the measure earlier in the legislative session. The measure has been closely looked at over the last few years as AUL and the Family Foundation of Virginia worked to educate legislators on the life-saving potential of the bill.

To date, at least 22 states help protect women through ultrasound requirements. In fact, abortion proponents suffered a tremendous defeat earlier this year when the Fifth Circuit Court of Appeals resoundingly supported the ultrasound law in Texas, stating that the disclosure of the ultrasound, the fetal heartbeat, and accompanying medical descriptions are "the epitome of truthful, non-misleading information."

"Abortion proponents are arguing against including a basic standard of care in ultrasound requirements," said Dr. Yoest. "It is absolutely false than any invasive ultrasound test is required by this bill. But at stake here is protecting women's lives from a rush to abortion that may harm them. Informed consent about the status of a woman's pregnancy and whether she might be harmed should be a concern for all people."

Investigation fails to answer questions about evidence destruction in Planned Parenthood criminal case

February 20, 2012/Topeka, KS/Operation Rescue --

By Cheryl Sullenger, Senior Policy Advisor

Shawnee County District Attorney Chad Taylor issued a statement Friday saying that there would be no criminal charges filed against Sebelius-era appointees in the destruction of critical evidence in a massive criminal case against Planned Parenthood. This statement raised eyebrows and even more questions about the dubious handling of the Planned Parenthood criminal case under the administration of former Gov. Kathleen Sebelius, who now serves as Secretary of Health and Human Services.

Chinese forced abortion opponent Chen Guangcheng ill, collapses -- urgent medical condition

SAN JOSE, Calif., Feb. 20, 2012/Christian Newswire --

Women's Rights Without Frontiers has received credible reports that Chen Guangcheng is seriously ill, and other members of his family are languishing as well. According to one report, Chen's second elder brother died of stomach cancer on the Chinese New Year/Spring Festival on January 23. Chen, his wife and mother were not allowed to attend the funeral. A few days later, according to a report by CHRD, Chen was seen to take a few steps in the courtyard. "He looked pale and moved unsteadily. Only a few steps out of the door he fainted and fell to the ground."

Chen's wife, Yuan Weijing, also was recently spotted leaning against the interior wall of their courtyard, looking "skinny... it seemed that it was difficult for her to move her waist." Yuan was driven back into the house by guards.

Chen's mother, in her eighties, became ill during the Spring Festival and has not recovered. She used to go out to buy food for the family. "Since the Spring Festival, Chen's mother has not come out any more. No one has been seen to send food to Chen Guangcheng's home. It is hard to imagine how the family is surviving." Chen's daughter, Kesi, has also been ill with a high fever.

In addition, the CHRD reports that the security surrounding Chen's family has increased significantly. There are now seven cameras monitoring Chen's home. Eight guards have moved into the family courtyard, in addition to the twenty guards that surround the house. Further, vans now block the alley leading to Chen's home. "For those who live very close to Chen Guangcheng's home, when they go home, they have to ask the guards to open the door of the van and let them go through the vehicle, just like passing the security." The Chinese Communist Party also sent an additional 200 guards to watch Chen's family for two weeks after his brother's death, to prevent them from visiting his grave.

Reggie Littlejohn, President of Women's Rights Without Frontiers, stated: "The Chinese Communist Party's continuing brutality towards a poor, blind, sick and innocent man is cowardly and depraved. Chen Guangcheng is a hero, for China and for the world - a man of towering courage and valiant endurance. Women's Rights Without Frontiers demands his unconditional release and immediate medical treatment."

Chen was arrested for exposing the systematic and massive use of forced abortion and sterilization in Linyi City in 2005.

Who Should Be President?

Are you going to vote for someone because they are "electable" or because that person is right for the job? Let's replace Obama with a person who strongly represents pro-life values & who stands up for the unborn almost daily. The only man running who does that is Rick Santorum. Mitt is the biggest flip-flopper ever, Gingrich supported "the Party" when it came to the pro-abortion candidate Scazofava.

Take the poll & let us know who you going to vote for.

CitizenLink: Obama budget proposal eliminates family-friendly education programs

by Karla Dial

Education advocates cried foul this week when the Obama administration revealed its proposed budget for Fiscal Year 2013 -- one that cancels all federal funding for a popular school choice program in the District of Columbia and abstinence education programs nationwide.

The D.C. Opportunity Scholarship Program has, since 2003, given low-income children in the District the opportunity to escape the failing public schools to which they've been assigned by ZIP code in order to attend the private school of their parents' choice. The nation's first federally funded school choice program, it boasts a 91 percent high school graduation rate, compared to only 70 percent citywide among children with similar backgrounds.

Meanwhile, the president took a 20:1 funding disparity between condom-based sex-education programs and abstinence education programs, and made it 100:0....

Healthcare reform violates First Amendment: Forces abortion insurance mandate

WASHINGTON, Feb. 14, 2012/Christian Newswire --

The Patient Protection and Affordable Care Act (ACT) violates the Free Exercise Clause of the First Amendment by forcing some individuals to personally pay a separate abortion insurance premium in defilement of their religious beliefs, according to "friends of the court" (amici curiae) filed with the Supreme Court by the Life Legal Defense Foundation, Bioethics Defense Fund and others.

"The ACT has nestled within it a hidden 'abortion health insurance premium mandate'," said Dana Cody, Executive Director of the Life Legal Defense Foundation. "The ACT includes inescapable requirements that all individuals who are enrolled in a health plan -- either on their own or by their employer -- include abortion services in the coverage. This will encumber the conscience and free exercise rights of millions of Americans by imposing an unconstitutional burden."

Today's filing with the Supreme Court argues:

The ACT and its individual mandate violate the Free Exercise Clause by imposing an "Abortion Premium Mandate" without regard to religious objection.

The ACT contains an "Abortion Premium Mandate" that compels enrollees in certain health plans to pay a separate abortion premium from their own pocket, while denying enrollees the ability to decline abortion coverage based on moral objection.

Our nation has a long and deeply-rooted history of respecting and protecting the conscience rights of individuals to not be forced into the practice or funding of elective abortions.

Our founders' protection of individual liberty, including religious liberty, is directly undermined by the ACT's transgression of the constitutional limits on congressional power.

"This ACT and President Obama want citizens to have their choices impermissibly limited by being forced to choose between their conscience and a health insurance plan that requires an abortion premium," said Cody. "How could Congress allow for this ACT to make pro-life individuals pay for a pro-abortion agenda?"

Deadly health risks for women: The unspoken side of the Obama birth control mandate

by Jenn Giroux

For far too long there has been an ominous silence across America on arguably the most controversial and devastating issue of the day -- birth control. As so often we see in history, oppression gives rise to courage and, no question, courage is exactly what we are seeing in Church leaders and layman alike in response to the Obama administration's recent birth control mandate and more recent unacceptable modifications.

The Birth Control Mandate has forced the issue of contraception to move from being the elephant in the room to center stage. Perhaps in time we will see that it was a hidden blessing for our country. For years pro-life organizations refused to discuss or take on this topic despite the fact that free access to birth control increases the number of surgical abortions[1][2]. Most people repeat over and over that birth control decreases the number of abortions. Nothing could be farther from the truth. In fact, today for every child born in the US, there are an estimated 2 children killed in the womb from both surgical and chemical, abortifacient drug abortions [3]. What isn't being talked about is that the new mandate also pre-disposes women to serious long term and permanent health problems. In conjunction with the defense of both religious liberty and the spiritual well-being of women, we must also refute the absurd and deceptive statement that "women are healthier on birth control."

Providing free hormonal birth control to women under the guise of 'preventative services' and 'women's health' is a lie and women of all faiths deserve to know the truth.

Hormonal birth control methods can enter the body in various ways. These ways include 'The Pill' (by mouth), the Mirena IUD (Intrauterine Device), the implant (placed under the skin), 'the Patch' (absorbed through the skin), and the Vaginal Nuvaring. There are many other estrogen-progestin name brands that can be added to this list. Any way you name it, these hormone drugs dispense poison into a woman's body....

AbortionDocs.org uploads 1,000+ documents of abortion abuses

WASHINGTON, Feb. 13, 2012/Christian Newswire --

Pro-Life Nation announces that its ground-breaking new website, AbortionDocs.org has passed 1,000 document uploads. AbortionDocs.org is the most up-to-date database of existing abortion businesses and providers in the United States that contains civil and criminal court records, disciplinary documents, health department inspection reports, and other documents that paint a picture of rampant abortion abuses throughout the country.

"We are happy to announce that AbortionDocs.org has surpassed the 1,000 document mark, however, we have just begun the arduous process of uploading. The running document count does not include videos and links to off-site news articles. For many areas of the country, there is already a vast amount of information available that can be used to show the shoddy and often criminal nature of the abortion cartel," said Troy Newman, President of Pro-Life Nation and Operation Rescue. AbortionDocs.org is a project of Pro-life Nation, a newly launched initiative from Operation Rescue.

"This is a resource for the entire pro-life movement and for anyone seeking more information about abortion businesses in their areas. We encourage anyone with documentation, such as photos, court records, videos, affidavits, or any other documentation on such things as abortion injuries or deaths, billing fraud, criminal backgrounds, tax evasion, clinic health violations, and the like to post the evidence to AbortionDocs.org."

On AbortionDocs.org, there are records that document such abuses as:

  • Illegal dumping of aborted baby remains

  • Life-threatening botched abortions

  • Coerced/Forced abortions

  • Abortion-related deaths

  • Criminal abortions

  • Fraud

  • Huge malpractice judgments

  • Sex crimes on patients

  • Unsafe clinic conditions

  • Illegal weapons possession

New information is being added and updated daily. Currently AbortionDocs.org shows:

  • 658 surgical abortion clinics (down from 2,176 in 1991)

  • 280 abortion pill-only clinics

  • 724 abortionists

"These facts prove that the abortion cartel is self-destructing due to their own misdeeds and lack of demand for their grisly services," said Newman. "That means very soon we may see all of America become a Pro-life Nation."

New Obama scam (You Must Pay, But Nobody Pays) lays groundwork for future national abortion mandate

WASHINGTON, Feb. 10, 2012/Christian Newswire --

In response to criticism of its recent regulation requiring coverage of FDA-approved birth control drugs and devices, the White House today announced a purported "compromise" under which insurance plans will be required to provide the coverage in all plans, without charging anything additional for it.

The Administration position is that insurers can be required to provide the coverage for "free" because birth control is less expensive than childbirth. The National Right to Life Committee (NRLC), the national federation of right-to-life organizations, issued the following comment, any part of which may be attributed to NRLC Legislative Director Douglas Johnson:

"President Obama today promulgated a scam that, if he is re-elected, will allow him to mandate that every health plan in America cover abortion on demand," said NRLC Legislative Director Douglas Johnson. "The same twisted logic will be applied: By ordering health plans to cover elective abortion, health plans would save the much higher costs of prenatal care, childbirth, and care for the baby -- and under the Obama scam, if a procedure saves money, then that means that you're not really paying for it when the government mandates it."

By this form of doublespeak, one could say that the federal Medicaid program was not really "funding abortion" when it paid for 300,000 abortions a year (prior to adoption of the Hyde Amendment in 1976), because after all, every abortion that the government paid for also saved the government money.

The Obama "you must pay, but nobody pays" scam might also be applied to other "cost-cutting" mandates. Perhaps every health plan will be mandated to cover physician-assisted suicide, in states in which assisted suicide is legal. After all, each suicide would result in a net savings to the plan, and under the Obama scam, that means it is really free and nobody really pays for it.

Some journalists have wrongly reported that the ObamaCare law contains language prohibiting the federal government from mandating that health plans cover abortions. This is erroneous. The law prevents the Secretary of Health and Human Services from including abortion in a list of federally mandated "essential health benefits." But the birth control mandate is based on an entirely different provision of the law, which allows the Secretary to mandate that all health plans cover any service that the Secretary places on a list of "preventive" services. There is nothing in the law to prevent the Secretary from placing abortion, assisted suicide, or any other additional services on the preventive services list, nor does the Secretary require the agreement of any other authority in the government to do so -- except, perhaps, the president.

At his press conference today, President Obama suggested that the birth-control mandate was recommended by "the nation's leading medical experts." The actual make up of the handpicked panel that made the birth control recommendations was reported by Kathryn Jean Lopez of National Review Online here.

NRLC supports enactment of the Respect for Rights of Conscience Act (S. 1467, H.R. 1179), which would allow health providers to decline to provide abortions or other specific medical services on the basis of religious belief or moral convictions.

EWTN sues U.S. Government to stop contraception mandate

IRONDALE, Ala., Feb. 9, 2012/Christian Newswire --

EWTN Global Catholic Network filed a lawsuit February 9 in U.S. District Court in Birmingham, Alabama against the Department of Health & Human Services, HHS Secretary Kathleen Sebelius, and other government agencies seeking to stop the imposition of the contraception mandate as well as asking the court for a declaratory judgment that the mandate is unconstitutional. EWTN is the first Catholic organization to file suit since the final HHS rules were published by the Obama administration on January 20, 2012.

"We had no other option but to take this to the courts," says EWTN President and CEO Michael P. Warsaw. "Under the HHS mandate, EWTN is being forced by the government to make a choice: either we provide employees coverage for contraception, sterilization and abortion-inducing drugs and violate our conscience or offer our employees and their families no health insurance coverage at all. Neither of those choices is acceptable."

The lawsuit was filed on EWTN's behalf by Mark Rienzi, Kyle Duncan, and Erik Kniffin from the Becket Fund for Religious Liberty.

"We are taking this action to defend not only ourselves but also to protect other institutions -- Catholic and non-Catholic, religious and secular -- from having this mandate imposed upon them," Warsaw continued. "The government is forcing EWTN, first, to inform its employees about how to get contraception, sterilization and abortifacient drugs, a concept known as forced speech. To make the matter worse, the government then will force EWTN to use its donors' funds to pay for these same morally objectionable procedures or to pay for the huge fines it will levy against us if we fail to provide health care insurance. There is no question that this mandate violates our First Amendment rights. This is a moment when EWTN, as a Catholic organization, has to step up and say that enough is enough. Our hope is that our lawsuit does just that."

The Becket Fund previously filed similar lawsuits on behalf of Belmont Abbey College, a small Catholic liberal arts college in Belmont, N.C., and Colorado Christian University, an interdenominational Christian liberal arts university near Denver, which demonstrates that this is not just a Catholic issue. Both suits were filed prior to the HHS rules being finalized in January.

"When the government recently mandated that all private group health plans cover certain abortion drugs (namely, Plan B and ella), as well as related education and counseling, [our clients] knew that they could not obey both the government's mandate and their own religious convictions," said Rienzi, who focuses his practice at the Becket Fund on violations of the Fourteenth Amendment, free speech, and the free exercise of religion. "The mandate has been sharply criticized from across the political spectrum, and from religious leaders of a variety of faiths."

Duncan, a former Louisiana Solicitor General and General Counsel of the Becket Fund, said that without a change in the rules, EWTN could be forced to pay more than $600,000 for the "privilege" of not underwriting these services.

"This mandate is particularly hard on Catholics because Catholic organizations, such as hospitals, schools, social service agencies, media outlets and others, serve people regardless of their religious beliefs," Warsaw said. "We serve others not because they are Catholic, but because we are Catholic."

EWTN Global Catholic Network, in its 30th year, is available in over 200 million television households in more than 140 countries and territories. With its direct broadcast satellite television and radio services, AM & FM radio networks, worldwide short-wave radio station, Internet website www.ewtn.com, electronic and print news services, and publishing arm, EWTN is the largest religious media network in the world.

The Becket Fund for Religious Liberty is a non-profit, public-interest law firm dedicated to protecting the free expression of all religious traditions. The Becket Fund has a 17-year history of defending religious liberty for people of all faiths. Its attorneys are recognized as experts in the field of church-state law, and they recently won a 9-0 victory against the federal government at the U.S. Supreme Court in Hosanna-Tabor v. EEOC.

Georgia Supreme Court strikes law protecting against assisted suicide

WASHINGTON, Feb. 6, 2012/Christian Newswire --

Citing a violation of First Amendment Rights, the Georgia State Supreme Court today struck the state's 1994 law which classified as a felony anyone who "publicly advertises, offers or holds himself out as offering that he or she will intentionally and actively assist another person in the commission of suicide and commits any overt act to further that purpose." The decision leaves Georgia with no protections against assisting suicide.

"Today's ruling by the Georgia Supreme Court puts the lives of older people and those with disabilities in grave danger because it opens the door for the fringe advocates of doctor-prescribed death to openly advertise the practice in the state of Georgia," said Burke Balch, J.D., director of National Right to Life's Powell Center for Medical Ethics. "This ruling essentially says if you want to advertise helping people jump off a cliff, you can hang out your shingle in Georgia."

At the heart of the ruling was a case involving four members of the Final Exit Network who were charged in February 2009 with the death of a 58-year-old cancer patient. As a result of today's ruling, the four will not face a criminal trial.

At present only Oregon and Washington State have legalized doctor-prescribed death. A Montana Supreme Court ruling in 2010 left the status of assisting suicide in that state ambiguous. Other efforts to legalize the practice, which would put countless patients at risk, have been defeated in Maine, Hawaii, and Michigan among others.

"We call on the Georgia legislature to quickly remedy today's ruling by enacting into statute legal protections against doctor-prescribed death and other forms of assisting suicide," added Balch. "Failure to take swift action could result in the deaths of countless older people and those with disabilities."

Abortionist quits Birmingham clinic with botched abortion history

February 6, 2012/Birmingham, AL/Operation Rescue --

Just two weeks after botched abortions at Birmingham's New Woman All Women sent two patients to the hospital with life-threatening injuries, a Georgia abortionist with financial ties to the clinic has quit doing abortions there.

Abortionist Ivan Diamond has stopped doing abortions in Birmingham under pressure from pro-life activists, according to Fr. Terry Gensemer, director of CEC for Life, who met with a representative of Diamond's employer in Atlanta, Georgia, last week where the news was confirmed.

On January 21, 2012, ambulances and fire department vehicles were summoned to the New Woman abortion clinic where paramedics were forced to negotiate gurneys down a trash-strewn alley only to discover that the rear entrance of the clinic could not accommodate them. One woman, bloodied and partially clad, was hand-lifted from a narrow doorway and down several steps with a broken safety rail to an awaiting gurney. A second woman was wheeled to her gurney in a wheelchair.

Diamond has financial affiliations with Diane Derzis, who is listed as the owner of New Woman and of the Jackson Women's Health Organization, the last remaining abortion clinic in Mississippi.

"In OR's experience, clinics like New Woman have a narrow hold on staying in business. They have two possible botched abortions for which they are being investigated, a dilapidated building, and one of their abortionists jumping ship," said Troy Newman, president of Operation Rescue and Pro-Life Nation, who has been consulting with Fr. Genesmer concerning their efforts to close the dangerous abortion clinic through peaceful and legal means.

"While ceasing the practice of abortion in Alabama is a good first step, Diamond should completely divest himself from the abortion business and stop profiting from the taking of innocent human life."

Diamond's departure leaves only one part-time abortionist at New Woman All Women.

"We are praying that New Woman's last abortionist will also quit amid a growing investigation into dangerous conditions at that abortion mill," said Newman.

Komen Buckles under Pressure from top Abortion Provider

WASHINGTON - Succumbing to pressure from the mainstream media and Planned Parenthood, Susan G. Komen for the Cure today announced Planned Parenthood Federation of America and its affiliates will remain eligible for grant funding. Planned Parenthood is the nation's largest abortion provider, performing approximately 27% of all abortions annually in the United States.

The following statement may be attributed to National Right to Life President Carol Tobias:

Shortly after news broke earlier this week that Komen was withdrawing future grant funding to Planned Parenthood and its affiliates, the abortion giant and its allies began a shrill online campaign to bring Komen to its knees by bullying the organization into submission.

Any decision to provide future grants approved for Planned Parenthood, which boasts a $1.1 billion budget, would be extremely and sadly misguided. Any grants to Planned Parenthood would be detrimental to women and their unborn children. Even in their own press statements, Planned Parenthood states that they refer for mammograms, an indication they don't perform them.

Planned Parenthood is not in the business of fighting breast cancer, they're in the business of performing abortions to the tune of more than 300,000 a year, which accounts for at least one-third of Planned Parenthood's nongovernmental clinic income. In fact, Planned Parenthood has announced that all of their affiliates will be required to perform abortions.

National Right to Life strongly urges Susan G. Komen for the Cure and all cancer research organizations to approve no future funding to Planned Parenthood, the nation's largest chain of abortion clinics.  Right-to-life supporters do not want their donations for fighting cancer to go to organizations that perform abortions.

Founded in 1968, the National Right to Life Committee (NRLC), the federation of 50 state right-to-life affiliates and more than 3,000 local chapters, is the nation's oldest and largest grassroots pro-life organization. Recognized as the flagship of the pro-life movement, NRLC works through legislation and education to protect innocent human life from abortion, infanticide, assisted suicide and euthanasia.

Truth Truck joins fight for Ohio heartbeat bill

February 2, 2012/Columbus, OH/Operation Rescue --

Operation Rescue has sent one if its Truth Trucks to Ohio in support of efforts to pass legislation known as the Heartbeat Bill. The pro-life group Created Equal launched an awareness campaign using the billboard-sized banners mounted on a large box truck to encourage the Senate to move forward on the Heartbeat Bill, which passed handily in the House.

The Truth Truck features authenticated images of aborted baby remains along with text encouraging the Senate to take up House Bill 125, which would protect pre-born babies from abortion after a heartbeat has been detected. It would stop the majority of the approximately 28,000 abortions now taking place each year in Ohio.

"You've heard from the teddy bears, we've heard from the politicians, activists, women who regretted their abortions, Planned Parenthood, NARAL. It's time the victims speak," said Mark Harrington of Created Equal at a press conference on Tuesday.

"Every day the bill is delayed, babies die," said Troy Newman, president of Operation Rescue and Pro-Life Nation. "We are asking the Ohio Senate to stop the delay tactics and put this bill on the agenda for an up or down vote."

In addition, Harrington launched a graphic video showing actual abortion footage with images of recognizable body parts extracted during a first trimester abortion in order to drive the message home to voters as well as members of the Senate.

"A picture is worth a thousand words, and if the Senate is going to drag this out, they really should see what kind of carnage they are enabling," said Newman. "We encourage the good people of Ohio to contact their senator and ask for them to move the Heartbeat Bill forward.

"Our point is this: each day the Senate delays a vote on HB 125 - seventy one babies die - ten every hour - one every six minutes. Let that sink in. One baby is brutally dismembered, decapitated or disemboweled every six minutes in this state," said Harrington. "If HB 125 would have been passed into law at least 90% of these children would be alive today. In other words, these unnecessary delays in the Senate are responsible for 14,675 deaths."

Coalition on Abortion/Breast Cancer applauds Komen's temporary PP grant halt; remains its critic on other life issues

HOFFMAN ESTATES, IL, Feb. 1, 2012/Christian Newswire --

The Coalition on Abortion/Breast Cancer applauds the breast cancer group, Susan G. Komen for the Cure, for discontinuing its grants to Planned Parenthood (PP) while the abortion provider is under investigation by Congress. Komen said it will not resume payment of the grants unless PP is exonerated. Komen attributed its decision to a new policy that prohibits grants from going to organizations under investigation by governmental authorities.

"Our group will remain as Komen's critic as long as it continues to work against its own mission to eradicate breast cancer. Komen's decision is a step in the right direction to protect women's lives. However, I will not donate to Komen while it is still cooperating in the cover-up of the abortion-breast cancer link and downplaying the risk of using oral contraceptives (OCs)." asserted Karen Malec, president of the Coalition on Abortion/Breast Cancer.

"PP is a primary cause of the breast cancer epidemic. It sells cancer-causing abortions and oral contraceptives (OCs), also called 'the birth control pill.' Medical texts reveal that increased childbearing, especially starting early before age 24, substantially reduces lifetime breast cancer risk. Abortion not only deprives women of this protection, but 52 of 68 epidemiological studies show it raises breast cancer risk. [1] The World Health Organization lists OCs containing estrogen and progesterone on its list of Group 1 carcinogens -- the highest level as a cancer-causing agent. [2] OCs are associated with the deadly triple-negative breast cancer. [3,4] Komen and the Institute of Medicine had an opportunity to reduce the incidence of breast cancer with its December 2011 study, "Breast Cancer and the Environment," but they chose not to review reproductive risk factors and include avoidance of abortion and OCs among the ways to prevent the disease. We sincerely hope Komen will develop the political courage needed to fulfill its mission.

"PP has done substantial harm to women's health. Additionally, PP does not do mammograms, although PP president Cecile Richards had led the public to believe otherwise.

"The Coalition on Abortion/Breast Cancer was the first to expose the Komen-PP relationship to the world in 2003. We thank our supporters for doing such a marvelous job by contacting Komen and stating their objections to this irregular relationship, and we remind them their work is not yet done. Contact Komen at ww5.komen.org/Contact.aspx. Politely thank Komen's representatives for temporarily halting its gifts to Planned Parenthood. Ask them to permanently halt their grants to PP and tell the full truth about the breast cancer risks associated with induced abortion and oral contraceptives."
