Instead of new clinic, Carhart moves late-term abortions into rundown MD abortion mill

Germantown, MD/November 30, 2010/Operation Rescue --

Operation Rescue has confirmed that late-term abortionist LeRoy Carhart is not in fact opening a new clinic in Maryland as he announced, but is instead joining up with an existing abortion business in Germantown in order to evade a new Nebraska law that prohibits abortions past 20 weeks.

"This is not an expansion of abortion, but a relocation of Carhart's failing late-term abortion business in a desperate attempt to avoid financial ruin," said Operation Rescue President Troy Newman.

Running from the law that halted his late-term abortion business, Carhart has made an opportunistic move to capture a portion of the abortion market vacated by the notorious abortionist Steven Chase Brigham, whose Maryland abortion clinics recently closed after it was discovered that he was operating a secret illegal late-term abortion racket in Maryland.

Like Brigham, Carhart has no hospital privileges in any state, including Maryland where he intends to commit the risky late second and third trimester abortions at Germantown Reproductive Health Services, located at 13233 Executive Park Terrace.

GRHS is an affiliate of the National Abortion Federation, a group of abortion mills that has an abysmal record of filthy clinics and dangerous abortionists. Convicted rapist Brian Finkel, who is currently serving 34 years in an Arizona prison for raping dozens of his abortion patients, was a proud NAF member. (View photos of a filthy NAF abortion clinic in Wichita, Kansas, which was bought and closed by Operation Rescue.)

"Being an NAF affiliate only increases our belief that conditions at the Germantown clinic are such that the lives and health of women seeking Carhart's late-term abortion services would be placed at even greater risk than is usual for late-term abortions which are typically prone to complication," said Operation Rescue President Troy Newman.

Carhart plans to begin late-term abortions at GRHS on December 6, 2010. Operation Rescue is working with Maryland and Washington, D.C. pro-life groups to employ peaceful, legal means to halt Carhart's plans to do late-term abortions in Germantown.

FRC's new report on adoption highlights benefits for children and families

WASHINGTON, D.C./November 29, 2010/Family Research Council --

In a new paper released today by Family Research Council's Marriage and Religion Research Institute, Dr. Patrick Fagan demonstrates that adoption improves children's lives significantly.

The paper, titled, Adoption Works Well: a Synthesis of the Literature, can be downloaded at www.marrifrc.org. Fagan is Senior Fellow and Director of the Marriage and Religion Research Institute (MARRI), which examines the relationships among family, marriage, religion, community, and America's social problems, as illustrated in the social science data.

"Adoption is an act of love that has profound implications for the lives and well-being of both children and parents," said Fagan. "It is love expressed by a birth-mother who gives-up a child for whom she cannot provide to parents who want to give love to a child for whom they long desperately.

"We have quantified how adoption benefits children in a variety of ways, which quantifies what most of us know intuitively: adoption changes lives for the good. We are issuing the paper at the end of National Adoption Month, but there is never a time when drawing attention to adoption is not a good idea," Fagan said.

Fagan noted that many adopted children move to materially advantaged homes with no or few children, where they are nurtured by supportive, focused parents. Very early adoptions (those that take place within the first year of the child's life) produce the best outcomes. 90% of adopting Americans view the practice in a positive light, and a decade after adopting, less than 15% express any regret. In fact, most feel grateful.

Adoption Works Well identifies certain factors as contributors to a successful adoption, such as flexible, yet consistent and engaged parenting; sensitivity on the part of the adoptive mother; and residing in a densely populated area. Additionally, married parents adjust better than unmarried parents, and households with more adopted children--but a smaller overall number of children--are more likely to produce a positive, stable adoption.

Adopted children see mental health providers less than children from any other family structure (except for intact families). Furthermore, adoption affects a child's educational performance: Adopted boys have higher reading scores than the general population, and one study showed only 7% of children adopted in infancy repeat a grade, compared to 12% of children in intact families.

Fagan concludes: "Adoption is a remarkable act by generous people, who offer their financial resources, attention, affection and time to give young children a better chance in life. Though not without difficulty for some, compared to what life was offered them initially, adoption makes an enormous positive difference. For the overwhelming number of those who adopt and are adopted, it works very well."

AUL condemns 2nd Circuit Court ruling against pro-life conscience case

WASHINGTON, D.C./November 23, 2010/Americans United for Life -

Americans United for Life on Tuesday condemned a decision by the Second Circuit in which the court ruled that a private individual does not have the right to sue her employer after being forced to participate in an abortion. Catherina Lorena Cenzon-DeCarlo, the plaintiff in the case, was a nurse at Mount Sinai Hospital in New York and was not allowed to opt out of assisting in an abortion procedure, despite the fact that she said it violated her conscience.

Mailee Smith, Staff Counsel for AUL, worked on an amicus brief filed on behalf of a number of pro-life medical groups and said: "The court's ruling today shows its total disregard for the rights of conscience of our healthcare providers. The right not to participate in a procedure is a fundamental right. But by forbidding Ms. DeCarlo from suing her employer, the Second Circuit has completely eviscerated that right."

In the brief, AUL argued that health care professionals across the nation are in danger of losing their freedom of conscience when facilities like Mount Sinai Hospital are allowed to force participation in abortion and other controversial procedures without regard to their employees' religious, moral, or conscientious convictions.

New Stanek WND.com column, "Thankful for... a late-term abortionist"

Well, I never thought I'd be saying thanks to Nebraska abortionist LeRoy Carhart for attempting to expand his late-term abortion cartel, but that's exactly what I'm here to do.

Iowa's incoming pro-life Republican speaker of the House, Kraig Paulsen, noted on Iowa Public Television Nov. 20 that while abortion was not much of a topic on the campaign trail, Carhart's Nov. 9 announcement that he was planning to open up shop in Council Bluffs "really elevated the whole discussion."

Or, as the Des Moines Register put it, Carhart "pushed the issue, Paulsen said."

Paulsen noted that consequently there were "several" legislative options under discussion....

I expect abortion advocates are irritated with Carhart for triggering this call for more abortion restrictions. Currently NARAL gives Iowa a C+ on abortion, which is high by its standards. Pro-lifers would love for NARAL to bestow Iowa a flaming red F in the none too distant future....

There is also the issue of abortion-industry turf, which doesn't get much publicity. But Planned Parenthood of the Heartland must certainly be livid with Carhart for impinging on its territory....

Respecting Life

Respecting Life

When Pete and Alisha Arnold put up the website BirthOrNot.com to ask voters for their opinions about whether or not they should abort their newly conceived child, it erupted and went viral, picking up traction on multiple websites and commentaries worldwide.

First reactions were that it was a hoax. It is now being reported that it is indeed a hoax, put on by an anti-abortion activist. They did succeed in gaining a lot of attention. They did succeed in reaching over a million votes. They did succeed in profiting from ads on their website. They failed in respecting life.

For alleged pro-life activists, Pete and Alisha Arnold did a deplorable, misleading stunt, and empowered pro-aborts. While pro-lifers should take a pro-active stance and push the pro-life movement, a stunt like this hurts the pro-life movement credibility and disrespects the sanctity of life.

Aborted babies' funeral attracts 1000 mourners

November 22, 2010/Citizens for a Pro-Life Society --

At least 1000 people in a public display of grief and mourning, packed St. Mary's Cathedral in Lansing, Michigan, Saturday, November 20, 2010, and paid their respects to 17 aborted babies whose dismembered bodies were discovered in the trash dumpster used by Womans Choice abortion clinic located in Lansing--the states' capitol. The aborted babies, whose bodies once lay at the bottom of a garbage container, were brought before the sanctuary in a simple white infant's coffin for a funeral Mass celebrated by Lansing bishop Earl Boyea. Boyea also presided over the aborted babies' funeral rite at St. Joseph's Cemetery. Five hundred of those who were present at the Mass attended the burial ceremony.

It was clear that, for many, the funeral rites were a very moving experience. Even women who had had abortions were present.

Pro-life activist Chris Veneklase discovered the remains of the aborted babies on February 26, 2010 after searching the Womans Choice dumpster after the clinic had completed its abortions for the day. (see www.prolifesociety.com for a full history of this case) The bags holding the babies' remains were marked with the names of the mothers and dates of the abortions. Veneklase immediately notified pro-life leader Monica Migliorino Miller of CPLS who helped organize subsequent searches of the Lansing dumpster as well as the dumpster used by Womans Choice's sister clinic in Saginaw, Michigan. Searches resulted in the discovery of extensive bloody medical waste, including soiled suction canulas used in abortion procedures, as well as numerous patient records. Detectives from both the Eaton and Saginaw County Sheriff's departments conducted several investigations of the trash containers and also found medical waste and patient records.

The Michigan Attorney General's Office is still investigating the patient records issue, contrary to earlier reports that this investigation was concluded. However, according to current Michigan law, it is not illegal to toss the remains of aborted babies or medical waste into a common trash dumpster if fixed in formalin solution. Bills have been introduced into the Michigan legislature that would make it a felony crime for clinics to place aborted babies into the trash.

Pro-lifers intend to file complaints against Womans Choice clinics for violations of the federal HIPAA law--regarding breaches of patient confidentiality.

In the meantime however, the 17 unborn babies killed are laid to rest. They are part of the very tiny minority of the over fifty million children killed by abortion to ever find their way into a human cemetery.

Monica Miglioriono Miller states: "The abortion clinic treated these human beings as if they were trash. Pro-lifers buried them--and treated them with dignity and respect. In this we see the clash of two cultures--and it matters which one shall prevail. This grave is a place of justice and healing--healing for all the mothers and fathers who grieve the loss of their aborted child. But this grave is also an indictment--an indictment against a nation that allows this sort of atrocity. The voices of these unborn children cry out to us from the ground that covers them now. Let us hear their plea and end the injustice of abortion."

Closure of 2 more abortion clinics continues national trend

WASHINGTON, Nov. 17, 2010/Christian Newswire --

2 notorious abortion mills have closed or are scheduled to close, contributing to the national trend of clinic closures first documented by Operation Rescue last year in "Project Daniel 5:25."

In Yakima, WA, the Cedar Women's Clinic, which was the first abortion clinic to open in that city 31 years ago, closed Monday due to a dramatic decrease in the demand for abortions. According to statistics kept by the state, the abortion rate for women ages 15 to 44 dropped from 18 per 1,000 in 2008 to 16.7 per 1,000 in 2009. One abortion clinic remains in Yakima.

In MI, Womancare of Downriver in Southgate owned by the troubled owner, abortionist Alberto Hodari, is currently in escrow to a physician whose practice does not include abortions. Once escrow closes, so will the abortion clinic.

One woman, Jennifer McCoy, is particularly relieved that Hodari's Southgate abortion clinic has been tentatively sold. That was where she says Hodari forced an abortion on her when she was 16-years old. "That clinic will never do another abortion again," she said.

All of Hodari's 6 Detroit area abortion clinics were put up for sale last year. Hodari appeared to be liquidating his assets so he could leave the country after repeated complaints, fines, and lawsuits have recently overwhelmed him.

The closures continue a national trend of decreasing numbers of abortion clinics. Operation Rescue conducted extensive research and documented that over two-thirds of America's abortion clinics have closed since 1991, when there were over 2,100 clinics nationwide.

"When we released our 'Project Daniel 5:25' listing of all remaining surgical abortion clinics in the United States last December, there were 713. Today, counting the Southgate mill, which will soon close, there are only 694," said Operation Rescue spokesperson Cheryl Sullenger. "That great news for women and their pre-born babies."

20 abortion clinics have closed in the past 11 months at a rate of nearly 2 per month.

Operation Rescue maintains the most accurate listing of abortion clinics available on its Project Daniel 5:25 page. The project was named after the Biblical story of Daniel, who was able to read the handwriting on the wall and predict the fall of a wicked kingdom.

As a new feature, Operation Rescue has added names of some abortionists to the clinic list with links to documentation of their legal problems and abortion abuses.

"Government funding continues to artificially prop up a failing abortion industry. Without tax-funding, more of these clinics would fold," said Sullenger. "Until we can encode legal protections for the pre-born, we must work to expose and defund the abortion industry. Closing clinics is a proven way to reduce abortions and save lives."

New Stanek WND.com column, "Democrats for Life betrays pro-life movement"

Friends sometimes find themselves on opposite sides during political campaigns, when emotions can ride high.

Fortunately, just as opponents usually shake hands afterward, so do those friends.

But the rift that developed during the 2010 election cycle between Democrats for Life and basically the rest of the pro-life movement is irreparable, at least as long as Kristen Day remains its executive director.

Day became incensed when pro-life groups fulfilled their promise to target House pro-life Democrats for electoral defeat who voted for Obamacare sans the Stupak Amendment....

Day began publicly bashing other pro-life groups, convinced their motive was not as stated but rather to function as covert operatives for the Republican Party. From Politics Daily, Nov. 3:

"They [pro-life groups] put all their eggs in one party," said Kristen Day, executive director for Democrats for Life.... "They don't want two pro-life parties because most of them want a Republican majority."...

I suppose all the aforementioned would be forgivable after political passions died down, but then Day went too far.....

ND prosecutors ignore laws; refuse to charge unlicensed abortionist

Fargo, ND/November 16, 2010/Operation Rescue --

State's Attorney Birch Burdick has announced that he will not file criminal charges against an abortionist Lori Lynn Thorndike, who committed illegal abortions at the Red River Women's Clinic in Fargo, North Dakota, while her medical license was lapsed.

Brudick used abortion clinic rhetoric word for word by describing Thorndike's licensing issues as "an administrative oversight" and noted that she had active medical licenses in South Dakota and Colorado at the time she was doing abortions on a lapsed license in North Dakota.

"North Dakota laws are very explicit. It is a Class B Felony to commit abortions in that state without a valid North Dakota medical license. Burdick has decided all on his own that the laws of North Dakota that were enacted for the protection of vulnerable women should not be enforced," said Operation Rescue spokesperson Cheryl Sullenger.

Sullenger also received a letter today from the North Dakota Board of Medical Examiners Executive Secretary Duane Houdek, dated November 9, 2010, informing her, "At this point we are soliciting additional information regarding the complaint against Dr. Thorndike. All of this information will be forwarded to the members of one of the Board's investigative panels who will decide whether formal proceedings should be brought against this physician."

The letter went on to say that the matter would be discussed at a meeting of the Board scheduled for November 18, 2010. However, the day after the letter was written, the Board unilaterally decided to reinstate Thorndike's license without a hearing of the Board, and has since equivocated on whether or not the matter will be brought up at the referenced meetings.

"There is obviously some kind of monkey business at work in North Dakota. In this case, no one is saying that Thorndike did not break the law. They simply refuse to enforce the laws that were broken," said Sullenger.

"When authorities give abortion abuses a wink and a nod, it only serves to reinforce the dangerous notion that is prevalent among abortionists that they are above the law," said Sullenger. "Allowing abortionists to break the law without consequences creates an atmosphere that opens the door to further abuses that eventually cost women their health and sometimes their lives. Burdick and Houdek will have a lot to answer for when - not if - their lack of good judgment comes back to haunt the women of North Dakota."

Lansing, MI bishop to bury 17 aborted babies found in dumpster

November 15, 2010/Citizens for a Pro-life Society --

The most Reverend Earl Boyea, Bishop of Lansing, MI. will personally conduct the funeral rites for 17 aborted babies, whose remains were discovered earlier this year in a trash dumpster used by the Womans Choice abortion clinic located in Eaton County.

These solemn funeral rites will take place Saturday, November 20, 2010 beginning with a Mass at St. Mary's Cathedral, 219 Seymour St., Lansing, MI, 11:00am. The burial of the aborted babies will follow immediately at St. Joseph's Cemetery. Hundreds of people are expected to attend this rare event and the Diocese of Lansing has thrown itself into the Mass and burial preparations.

Bishop Boyea agreed to conduct the burial after having been approached by pro-lifers who had conducted several searches of the clinic's trash container--as well as searches of the dumpster used by the Womans Choice sister facility in Saginaw. In addition to the bodies of the aborted babies, pro-lifers found extensive medical waste as well as several patient records. The mothers' names were plainly visible on the bags containing their aborted children. Please see a history of this case below. Their discoveries prompted a 7 month-long investigation involving the Michigan Attorney General's Office as well as the Eaton and Saginaw County Sheriff's Departments. Contrary to earlier reports, the Attorney General's office has not yet completed its findings in connection with the Womans Choice clinics. In the meantime, the bodies of these seventeen aborted babies will be honored and humanely laid to rest.

Monica Migliorino Miller, director of CPLS, who organized several searches of the Womans Choice dumpsters, states:

In the burial of these babies we see a clash of two cultures--the culture of life vs. the culture of death.

Under the law these human beings were allowed to be killed and their bodies dumped in the trash. But there's another culture that welcomes these abandoned children, sees in them the image of God, and will do what it can to reverse the injustice that has been committed against them.

The last corporal work of mercy is to bury the dead, but it will be the first mercy these children will ever know. And we hope healing will come to those who have had abortions.

In this burial the Church proclaims a witness: that human life is sacred and a challenge to America: End the injustice of abortion.

Abortion law is family law

by Helen Alvaré
Public Discourse, November 12, 2010

Questions about "abortion and the law" are usually seen as matters of constitutional law. Constitutional law, however, seems ill-suited. This is not only because the U.S. Supreme Court discovered a "constitutional right" for something that had been banned by most states for most of the nation's history. It is also because the "privacy" right encompassing abortion frames the issue as a struggle between the state and the woman over her right to define her life, her future, or even her "concept ...of the universe," in the famous words of the Casey Court.

But it is becoming increasingly apparent that abortion is about family relationships, not simply a contest between the state and a woman who happens to be pregnant. Scientific discoveries about human development and the testimonies of women who have had or have considered an abortion suggest that it is family law rather than constitutional law that provides the best means of understanding the issue of abortion....

Abortion is a family issue in other ways as well, as explained in the affidavits of 180 women filed with the U.S. Supreme Court in the second partial-birth abortion case, Gonzales v. Carhart. They described how abortion affected their mothering, how siblings of aborted children experienced repercussions of the abortion, and how they became pregnant again quickly after the abortion in order to have a "replacement baby."....

NRLC Analysis: Voters rebuked "pro-life" supporters of Obamacare

WASHINGTON/Nov. 11, 2010/NRLC -

In an analysis solicited by a blogger for the National Catholic Reporter and posted on that paper's website yesterday, National Right to Life Committee (NRLC) Legislative Director Douglas Johnson asserts that last week's election results represent a strong repudiation of lawmakers who voted for the health care law enacted last March, and discredit the attempts of certain organizations to whitewash the pro-abortion components of that bill.

Hiding behind a hollow executive order signed by President Obama (which, as Johnson points out, even "the president of Planned Parenthood accurately dismissed as 'a symbolic gesture'), two organizations in particular - Democrats for Life of America (DFLA) and Catholics United - attempted to provide political cover for a group of Democrat "pro-life" lawmakers who flip-flopped and provided the votes that allowed the law to be enacted without effective pro-life language. As Johnson writes, the electorate was not fooled: "The bloc of Democrats who abandoned the pro-life movement to satisfy President Obama and Speaker Pelosi suffered severe losses. In all, at least a dozen House incumbents who had taken high-profile stands against federal funding of abortion, but who ended up voting for the health care law, were defeated by pro-life challengers (or, in Stupak's case, suddenly retired)." He also notes that, "[f]ar greater losses were sustained among the ranks of House Democrats who had seldom or never voted pro-life: upwards of 40 were replaced by firmly pro-life Republicans."

Johnson also points to a post-election poll conducted for National Right to Life by the Polling Company which asked: "'Did the issue of funding for abortion in the Obama health care law affect the way you voted in today's election?' 31% of voters responded in the affirmative -- 27% who said they voted "for candidates who opposed the health care law," and 4% who said they voted "for candidates who favored the health care law." In other words, 87% of the voters who said the issue mattered, voted in accord with the NRLC position."

Johnson wrote, "The election results were good in the Senate, as well, where the net shift in the pro-life direction will be from four to seven votes, depending on the issue. No senator is being replaced by a successor who has a weaker position on abortion. . . . "

The full text of Mr. Johnson's analysis can be found on the National Catholic Reporter blog of Michael Sean Winters.

Abortionist appointed to RI Gov-Elect's transition team

PROVIDENCE, R.I., Nov. 9, 2010/Christian Newswire --

Rhode Island Governor-elect Lincoln Chafee, who won office as an Independent, has appointed a transition team that includes an abortionist who admits he has committed abortions in an undisclosed South American country where abortion is illegal.

Chafee appointed Pablo Rodriguez, an abortionist who formerly served as Medical Director of Planned Parenthood of Rhode Island. In 2000, Rodriguez, a radical abortion promoter, penned an essay about his abortion work in an unnamed Andean country where he mused about the irony of committing illegal abortions in a room with images of Jesus and Mary hanging on the wall, and made references to the religious protesters outside his Rhode Island abortion clinic. He lamented the possibility of restrictions on abortions in the United States and voiced gratification that he had trained "cholitas" in the Andes to manage "the complications of unintended pregnancy," his euphemism for abortion.

"I never thought that I would be performing an abortion in a room with a picture of Jesus and the Virgin Mary, but there I was, in the middle of the Andes," Rodriguez wrote in the opening statement of his essay.

"Chafee's appointment of an abortionist who admits not only to doing illegal abortions, but has trained others to do them, is one that shows a gross lack of good judgment," said Operation Rescue President Troy Newman. "We call on Mr. Chafee to replace Pablo Rodriguez as soon as possible with someone who has not made a living taking the lives of innocent children through abortion."

National Cancer Institute must tell women abortion, breast cancer linked

As October has closed, so does another Breast Cancer Awareness Month. It is a noble and worthy endeavor to raise awareness of this dread disease and how it affects the women we love and their families.

We have indeed made great strides against this disease in all areas: etiology, early detection, and treatment.

However, the National Cancer Institute's (NCI) pro-abortion political correcting of honestly assessing all areas of causality undercuts the effectiveness of this month's activities, and leaves millions of women at needless increased risk. Specifically, we need to consider the risks associated with oral contraceptive (OC) use and abortion.

At my blog, I have been analyzing the peer reviewed scientific and medical literature showing the association between OC use, abortion and breast cancer. For a half-century now, well over a hundred studies have indicated a link between abortion and breast cancer, with increased risks being upward of 50% for abortions before a first full-term pregnancy, with many showing increased risks above 100%....

Abortionist Brigham's replacements "bottom of the barrel"

VOORHEES, N.J., Nov. 4, 2010/Christian Newswire --

Operation Rescue has conducted an investigation of the American Women's Services (AWS) abortion chain operated by the notorious Steven Chase Brigham and discovered that abortionists who are working to keep AWS open during Brigham's medical license suspension have shocking backgrounds that include criminal convictions and other problems. This information has led Operation Rescue to believe that the entire ASW chain is fraught with problems and should be shut down to protect the public.

"Brighham's abortion business is a haven for the bottom of the barrel criminals and quacks masquerading as medical doctors, and that's just the unvarnished truth," said Operation Rescue President Troy Newman. "We have reviewed hundreds of pages of disciplinary documents. Every medical misfit on the east coast that has run out of options seems to have found a welcome home in Brigham's abortion organization."

Abortionists who continue to work for Brigham include:

  • An admitted sex offender and drug abuser
  • Two convicted drug violators
  • A convicted income tax cheat who once paid out $3.5 million in a malpractice suit
  • An abortionist convicted of billing fraud
  • Several abortionists that cannot get hospital privileges

Brigham was suspended in New Jersey after a botched abortion led to the discovery of his illegal late-term abortion scheme that spanned 2 states. All of Brigham's clinics in Maryland have closed, at least temporarily, but he continues to operate dangerous clinics in 3 other states.

"We have a message for the authorities in Maryland, New Jersey, Pennsylvania, and Virginia: For the love of God, please close these abortion clinics!" said Newman. "As relieved as we were by the suspensions and clinic closures, the authorities really need to do more and close AWS down permanently. What we discovered about Brigham's current abortion staff was worse than we had imagined."

SBA List defeats 15 of 20 "Votes Have Consequences" targets

WASHINGTON, Nov. 3, 2010/Christian Newswire --

Today, the Susan B. Anthony List announced that it successfully defeated 15 of its 20 targeted self-described "pro-life" Democrats who voted for the pro-abortion health care bill as part of its "Votes Have Consequences" project.

"Last night, the SBA List accomplished its overall goal and delivered on our promise that votes have consequences," SBA List President Marjorie Dannenfelser said. "In these races, the abortion issue was a determining factor. We flexed the muscles of the pro-life movement. Our project started more than a year ago when we targeted these districts to strengthen pro-life Democrats' resolve to vote against abortion funding in health care reform. When the so-called 'pro-life' Democrats caved, our mission had to change. By defeating 15 of 20 these self-described pro-life Democrats, we have sent a clear message to Washington that voting against the deeply held pro-life views of your constituency has serious political consequences."

Targets defeated included: Rep. Brad Ellsworth (IN-SEN); Rep. Steve Driehaus (OH-01); Rep. Kathy Dahlkemper (PA-04); Bart Stupak (Retired, MI-01); Alan Mollohan (Primary defeat, MI-01); Baron Hill (IN-09); Paul Kanjorski (PA-11); John Salazar (CO-03); Jim Oberstar (MN-08); Bob Etheridge (NC-02); John Boccieri (OH-16); Chris Carney (PA-10); John Spratt (SC-05); Ciro Rodriguez (TX-23); and Charlie Wilson (OH-06). The SBA List also supported the re-election campaign of Democratic Rep. Dan Lipinski (IL-03), the lone member of the Stupak Coalition to vote against the health care bill because of its abortion funding problems.

The SBA List's $3.4 million Votes Have Consequences project included a comprehensive political campaign involving bus tours, billboards, radio and television ads, nearly one million mailers to pro-life voters, robo-calls, newspaper ads and local grassroots organizing.

The Susan B. Anthony List spent $11 million during the 2010 midterm elections, including: $3.4 million on its "Votes Have Consequences" project targeting self-described "pro-life" Democrats who voted for abortion funding in the health care bill; $2.3 million on its efforts to elect pro-life women to the U.S. Senate, U.S. House, and Statewide Office; and $1.4 million spent defeating pro-abortion incumbents and protecting pro-life leaders. SBA List members across the country bundled over $600,000 in direct contributions to candidates. Overall, the SBA List was involved in 90 races.

"Privacy" controversy over Amendment 62 debate vid; Personhood CO offers challenge to PP

MEDIA ADVISORY, Nov. 1, 2010/Christian Newswire --

Personhood Colorado, sponsor of Colorado's Personhood Amendment 62, has been notified that opposition to Amendment 62 has complained to YouTube, claiming that a recently released video violates the privacy of the people debating.

The nearly 3 minute video contains excerpts from a recent debate in which Advocates for Choice, a Planned Parenthood college outreach group, claimed that "We are not gonna try to use science, or evidence," "Abortion is...safer...than getting your wisdom teeth removed," and "there's people on our side that research that says that the heart doesn't beat until 24 weeks."

"Those misstatements by our opposition are easily refuted. The most basic studies of human development confirm that a baby in the womb has a heartbeat days after the beginning of development, not months after," explained Jennifer Mason, a spokesperson for Amendment 62. "The day before the election, it is critical that Colorado voters learn the truth before they go to the polls."

Before the debate, all parties to the debate agreed to be videotaped, and agreed that the video could be used. The campus newspaper also has an audio recording of the debate.

"This is not an issue of privacy. We were videotaping a public debate, on a public campus, and we had the permission of all of the participants," stated Gualberto Garcia Jones, co-sponsor of Amendment 62 and Personhood USA legal analyst. "I believe that this is not about privacy at all, but about Planned Parenthood's embarrassment over the video. The no on 62 side had to resort to lies or misinformation to try to defeat us - either way, it reflects very poorly upon their organization."

The misinformation provided by the no on 62 side of the debate is easily refuted with scientific text and public information.

As for the request for the video to be pulled from YouTube, Amendment 62 organizers are prepared to make an offer to Planned Parenthood:

"We are willing to remove the video from YouTube, shocking as it is, if Planned Parenthood will publicly state that the No on 62 side of the debate was wrong, that a baby in the womb has a heartbeat days after conception, and that abortions performed at Planned Parenthood stop that beating heart and kill a living, growing, developing human being," confirmed Mason. "If Planned Parenthood publicly makes these statements, which are well-known facts, we will take the YouTube video down immediately."
