KS AG helped to gag evidence that PP "cooked the books"

Topeka, KS/October 27, 2010/Operation Rescue --

Last week the KS Supreme Court issued a ruling remanding a 107-charge criminal case against Planned Parenthood to the District Court for prosecution. The ruling was hailed as a victory for pro-life supporters, including Operation Rescue, which worked for years to see Comprehensive Health of Planned Parenthood (CHPP) of Overland Park brought to justice.

The Supreme Court opinion attempts to chronicle the history of the case that involves a complex set of legal actions spanning an Attorney General's inquisition over 2 administrations, 6 mandamus actions, 3 grand juries, 3 criminal cases, and other legal maneuverings that are enough to make one's head spin. However, the basic nature of the case is very simple.

CHPP stands accused of 107 criminal violations, including 23 felonies. The evidence that could prove the case has been intentionally locked away by those who put politics and ideology above the laws of the State of Kansas and the well-being of women. Now Kansas Supreme Court has at least partially released the evidence and several witnesses from a gag order that prevented them from testifying in the criminal case.

But a closer look at the ruling, written by noted abortion supporter Justice Carol Beier, reveals a troubling timeline that is disturbing on at least 4 points:

  1. The ruling, included a partial transcript of Judge Richard Anderson's testimony at a hearing held on January 16, 2008, where he testified that there were problems with some of the evidence and that it appeared that Planned Parenthood had "cooked the books." (pgs. 22-23)
  2. It includes information that current Kansas Attorney General Steven Six sided with Planned Parenthood in seeking to gag the custodian of evidence against Planned Parenthood, District Court Judge Richard Anderson, without supplying the Kansas Supreme Court with pertinent the facts that may have influenced them to allow the case to proceed 2 years earlier. (pg. 29)
  3. It disturbingly notes that Attorney General Steve Six was allowed access to evidence obtained during [Phill] Kline's investigations for use in Six's prosecution of Tiller while Kline was denied access to evidence obtained at the same time in his prosecution of CHPP. (pg. 31)
  4. It raises the question of why the Kansas Supreme Court continues to enforce portions of a gag order from a case that was dismissed in January, 2009. (pgs. 47-48)

Victory for Personhood MS, PP/ACLU lawsuit unsuccessful

MEDIA ADVISORY, Oct. 27, 2010/Christian Newswire --

Sponsors of the Mississippi Personhood Amendment, Initiative Measure Number 26, have been notified that the motion to remove the Amendment from the Ballot, filed by Planned Parenthood and the ACLU, has been denied.

ACLU and Planned Parenthood attorneys filed a lawsuit against the MS Secretary of State in July, seeking to disallow MS voters from voting on the MS Personhood Amendment.

Amendment sponsors and volunteers exceeded state signature requirements on February 17, becoming only the fourth successful ballot initiative since 1992. The amendment, Initiative Measure Number 26, reads, "The term 'person' or 'persons' shall include every human being from the moment of fertilization, cloning or the functional equivalent thereof."

The ACLU then filed a motion for judgment on the pleadings, arguing that the Personhood amendment, which seeks to define the term "human being", modifies the Bill of Rights, which is expressly prohibited by Section 273(5). Steve Crampton, Liberty Counsel attorney for Personhood Mississippi, explained that Section 273(5) does not prohibit the definition of an otherwise undefined term, such as "person". Crampton went on to explain that the Personhood Amendment complies with section 273(5)(a) because it does not propose any new right and does not modify or repeal any existing right guaranteed under our bill of rights. Instead, the Personhood amendment merely defines the term "person", and does not modify the Bill of Rights in any way.

The Court decision read "Initiative Measure No. 26 has received more than the required amount of signatures to be placed on the ballot and the Constitution recognizes the right of citizens to amend their Constitution."

"Isaiah 59 tells us that ,'the LORD'S hand is not shortened, that it cannot save; neither his ear heavy, that it cannot hear' so we first give all praise and honor to our Lord Jesus Christ for hearing our prayers and giving us the victory in this round" explained Les Riley, amendment sponsor. "We have been certain that we have the right to define the term 'person', and that right was affirmed by the Circuit Court and Judge Harrison. The people of Mississippi have spoken - they want to vote to recognize those Personhood rights in November 2011."

"It is time for Mississippi voters to recognize that all human beings are people, and every person should be protected by love and by law," added Cal Zastrow, co-founder of Personhood USA.

CPLS to host press conference re: MI investigation

NOTICE OF PRESS CONFERENCE
Citizens for a Pro-life Society

Oct. 27, 2010 11:00 a.m.
Room 428 State Capitol Building, Lansing, MI

In blatant disregard for community health standards and patient confidentiality, the bodies of 17 aborted babies were dumped into the trash by the Woman's Choice abortion clinic, in Lansing, MI.

The 17 "Whirl Paks" were clearly marked with the full names of the women whose unborn children were contained within the plastic specimen packs. In addition, each Whirl Pak bore the date of the abortion. Body parts of the unborn children were clearly recognizable.

The grisly discovery of the bodies was made by MI resident, Chris Veneklase. Several additional searches of the trash dumpster revealed medical waste and patient records in violation of patient confidentiality and proper medical standards.

Citizens for a Pro-life Society also conducted searches of the Womans Choice sister clinic in Saginaw, MI, which also resulted in the retrieval of medical waste and more patient records that contained personal information of Womans Choice patients. During the press conference redacted copies of these records will be made available to the media.

Law enforcement was notified, prompting a 7 month-long investigation by the Michigan Attorney General's Office and the Eaton and Saginaw County Sheriffs' Departments.

Large poster-sized photos of the dumpster discovery, photo packets and a DVD of the dumpster findings will be presented to the media at the press conference.

State Representative Rick Jones will unveil legislation designed to reform abortion clinic practices.

The Moral Implications of IVF

If life begins at conception, then the practice of in vitro-fertilization (IVF) is morally questionable.

The debate rages on as to whether an embryo (a fertilized egg) is a human being or merely a "potential" human being, but putting all opinions aside, the scientific truth of the matter is that a unique human being comes into existence at the very moment of fertilization. As pro-life author, Randy Alcorn, says, there is only one moment in time when there isn't a human being and when there is: conception.

"But," many will argue, "you can hardly compare a cluster of cells to a full-term baby. The embryo doesn't even look like a human being yet; therefore, it isn't." This is a moot point. Why? Because human beings aren't fully developed at birth either. The sexual organs do not finish developing until puberty and the brain doesn't finish developing until late adolescence. It literally takes a human being a good 18 years to finish growing and developing.

It is often argued that "just because an embryo has human DNA, it doesn't mean it is a human being. A sperm has human DNA, too." Anyone who says this is missing the crucial difference: While the sperm and the egg do individually contain human DNA - the DNA of the father or the mother - there is no new human being involved. It is thus scientifically inaccurate to compare sperm to embryos because "they both have human DNA." To do so is no different than comparing a human being to a body part, such as a finger (which like the person, has human DNA). If you were to place a sperm inside a uterus, nothing would grow/develop, because a sperm is only half the equation.

When a sperm and egg join at conception, however, the human DNA is no longer that of the father or mother - the DNA is now unique to the embryo, and is, in fact, the embryo's DNA. This is because an embryo is a brand new human being in the earliest stage of development; which, if left uninterrupted, will continue on through childhood, adolescence, adulthood, and old age.

Therefore, an early miscarriage is the death of a human being, just as the death of a toddler, a teenager, or an elderly person, is also the death of a human being - each at a different stage of life/development.

So, how does this all relate to IVF?

In the IVF process, several eggs are removed from a woman's ovaries (drugs have been taken in advance to create more eggs than would normally be produced in one cycle). The eggs are then placed in a petri dish along with a man's sperm. Fertilization will occur in the dish as sperm and eggs join up or the sperm may need to be injected directly into the eggs. Either way, multiple eggs are fertilized and are soon embryos.

According to Dr. Leon Speroff (Clinical Gynecologic Endocrinology and Infertility, Williams and Wilkins, 5th ed., 1994, 937-39) 3 to 6 embryos will then be inserted into the woman's uterus with the hope that at least 1 of them will implant; but the success rate is extremely low. This means that for every failed IVF, at least 6 embryos have died. For every "successful" IVF in which one or 2 embryos survive, at least 2 to 4 others have died. Multiply this by repeat attempts over several months and the number of embryos who have died or been frozen numbers in the dozens.

This means that a woman who chooses to have IVF performed is willingly creating embryos in a petri dish (each of which is a new human being) while fully acknowledging that the majority of these embryos, if not all of them, are going to die. She is deliberately sacrificing the lives of several children in the hopes of having just one or two children.

Randy Alcorn, author of Pro-life Answers to Pro-choice Arguments says, "To the argument 'You can't seriously believe a frozen embryo is a human being,' the proper response is, 'Both scientifically and theologically we can't seriously believe a frozen embryo is anything other than a human being.' "

Heavyweight philosophers clash at abortion conference

PRINCETON/October 21, 2010/C-FAM --

By Terrence McKeegan, J.D.

A baby's cry, piercing the air from the back of an Ivy League academic hall, offered a disquieting counterpoint to a startling argument for abortion rights.

"An infant has no moral status because he is not self-aware," said Peter Singer, a professor of bioethics.

Singer argued this point at an historic conference he co-organized at Princeton University last weekend, seeking new dialogue on the heated issue of abortion. Remarkably, for a conference examining abortion, there was virtually no discussion about the act of abortion itself.

"We have to get rid of the idea of evil," said Frances Kissling, an abortion rights advocate turned bioethics scholar, who also organized the conference.

The headline panel featured two heavyweight Australian philosophers - Singer, a bioethics professor at Princeton, and John Finnis, a professor emeritus of philosophy in the University of Oxford. The two debated the "Moral Status of the Fetus."

Finnis argued that biology and metaphysics determined the status of the fetus, not ethics as suggested by Singer. Finnis objected to the very use of the term "fetus", saying that it is an "F-word".

"As used in the conference program and website, which are not medical contexts, it is offensive, dehumanizing, prejudicial, manipulative," Finnis said. "A website describing ultrasound for expectant mothers doesn't talk about her fetus but her baby, and so do her doctors unless they're her abortionists or think she has been or is interested in abortion." ...

IA telemed abortion corruption scandal reaches highest levels of gov't

Des Moines, IA/October 20, 2010/Operation Rescue --

Operation Rescue has released a 906-page packet of public documents that was obtained from the Iowa Attorney General's office through the open records act that reveals an effort by AG Tom Miller and his staff of hinder OR's efforts to obtain a criminal investigation of Planned Parenthood of the Heartland and their "telemed" remote-controlled abortion pill distribution scheme. The documents were sent to OR from an anonymous source.

The packet of documents contains a collection of e-mail communications from January, 2008, through July, 2010, between members of the IA AG's office and staff members for PP of the Heartland.

The documents reveal that the AG's office attempted to head off Operation Rescue's request of 10 county prosecutors for a criminal investigation of PPH's webcam abortion pill distribution scheme that deprives women seeking medical abortions access to physical examination by a licensed physician by alerting county prosecutors to the expected requests.

"Miller's staffers and PPH employees attend the same parties, they ask about each other's surgeries or how the grandkids are. Some AG staffers subscribe to Planned Parenthood's e-mail distribution list. Planned Parenthood staffers have alerted the AG's office to potential negative information about political opponents and even forward some of our press releases to Miller's people. Miller's office has aided PPH staffers in pursuing employment opportunities in the AG's office," said Newman.

"Now that we have seen the cozy nature of the relationships between everyone involved, we are more concerned than ever that an obvious bias in favor of Planned Parenthood exists in IA governmental agencies. That presents a grave conflict of interest. Will that bias effect the IA Board of Medicine's judgment when it comes to investigating Planned Parenthood as it has adversely affected the county attorneys that were influenced? It very well may have already, and that is troubling. There is a very real possibility that political and personal affiliations are being placed above the health and safety of women in Iowa. That is the very definition of corruption."

Operation Rescue will participate in a Pro-Life Town Hall Meeting on Friday, October 22, 2010, beginning 5:30 p.m. at The Downtown Church on 323 East Locust Street in Des Moines, IA. The public is encouraged to attend.

NRLC mourns the death of Dr. Mildred F. Jefferson

WASHINGTON/October 18, 2010--

Today, the National Right to Life Committee (NRLC) joined with pro-lifers nationwide in mourning the death of former NRLC president Dr. Mildred Fay Jefferson. A resident of Cambridge, Massachusetts, Dr. Jefferson was currently serving as an at-large director on the NRLC board of directors.

"The right-to-life movement has lost a champion and a pioneer. And we have lost a dear friend," said Darla St. Martin, NRLC co-executive Director. "Mildred Jefferson was a valued colleague in our fight for the most vulnerable members of our society and she will be greatly missed."

A committed political activist and recipient of numerous accolades and honors, for much of the past four decades, Dr. Jefferson devoted her talents and her life to the right-to-life movement. Known for her passion, charisma and eloquence, she was a frequent spokesperson appearing in countless media outlets and addressing many academic institutions. Dr. Jefferson was also a sought-after speaker at right-to-life conventions, rallies, and banquets across the country.

She was among one of the founders of NRLC and was elected as vice-chairman of the board in June 1973. She subsequently served as chairman of the board and, from 1975-1978, served three consecutive terms as NRLC president.

Dr. Jefferson's constant outreach to all pro-life people, regardless of background, was a hallmark of her activism. Writing as president in the 1977 NRLC convention journal, Jefferson noted:

"We come together from all parts of our land...We come rich and poor, proud and plain, religious and agnostic, politically committed and independent...The right-to-life cause is not the concern of only a special few but it should be the cause of all those who care about fairness and justice, love and compassion and liberty with law..."

"Mildred Jefferson used every forum available to educate America and encourage people of all ages to become active in the right-to-life movement," St. Martin added. "Her legacy will be the countless people - most especially young people - that she brought to the movement by her constant presence and tireless dedication to the cause of life."

Oct. 19th is 7th Annual Pro-Life Day of Silent Solidarity

MEDIA ADVISORY, Oct. 18, 2010/Christian Newswire --

Tomorrow morning students from thousands of schools around the world will refuse to speak as a protest against the killing innocent children. Every day in America almost 4000 human persons are killed by surgical abortion. The Pro-life Day of Silent Solidarity, a project of Stand True, Christ-Centered Pro-life is observed by hundreds of thousands of students who will lose their voice in solidarity with their brothers and sisters who will never have a voice. Last year Stand True heard back from participants over 80 girls who canceled their abortions on the day of the event due to the efforts of the students.

"By refusing to speak the students create a huge buzz and abortion will be the most talked about subject on campus," said Bryan Kemper, President of Stand True Ministries. "This generation is fed up with the senseless violence of abortion as is determined to bring an end the abortion holocaust."

Students will not only remain silent; they will also wear red armbands and/or red duct tape on their mouths, and distribute educational flyers to anyone who asks why they are silent. Many home-schooled students will also participate in the event by visiting local malls and other public areas to distribute flyers.

Students are instructed to be respectful to teachers and other officials and to speak with them when required.

"Students for Life is proud to co-sponsor the Pro-Life Day of Silent Solidarity. It is critical that we, the pro-life generation, take a stand for Life in our society, and I can think of no better way than standing in silent solidarity with the millions of pre-born Americans who do not have a voice. We stand in silent solidarity with them so that through our silence, they may have a voice."

"As a father, youth leader and national pro-life leader, I believe we must give young people the tools to stand up for their faith and convictions," said Jeff White, founder of Survivors. "The pro-life Day of Silent Solidarity is one of the most effective avenues for young people to take a stand for the most important cause of their generation; the fight for life."

Over the past few years many schools have tried to stop students from participating and have tried to quash their First Amendment rights. Every year, attorneys from the Alliance Defense Fund defend these students and file lawsuits to protect their rights.

There is no cost to participate in the event. Flyers are available for download in PDF format at www.silentday.org. Students can also follow the event on Twitter at www.twitter.com/prolifeday

Legal help for students involved is available from the Alliance Defense Fund (1-800-TELL-ADF).

The Pro-life Day of Silent Solidarity is a Project of Stand True - Christ Centered Pro-life and co-sponsored by Students for Life of America, Priests for Life and Survivors.

Operation Rescue calls for criminal charges against NJ abortionist Brigham

TRENTON, N.J./Oct. 14, 2010/Christian Newswire --

In a marathon hearing lasting nearly nine hours, the NJ Board of Medical Examiners formally suspended the medical license of Steven Chase Brigham, ruling that he presented "a clear and imminent danger to the public health and safety." The Board will forward his case to an Administrative judge for a revocation hearing.

In its ruling, the Board stated, "Dr. Brigham has consistently and repetitively engaged in manipulative and deceptive behavior designed to circumvent the requirements of the board's termination of pregnancy regulation and to eviscerate the protections that those regulations seek to afford to New Jersey patients."

The Board took action to revoke Brigham's license after a botched abortion incident brought to light his scheme to begin late-term abortions in NJ and complete them at a secret abortion mill in Elkton, MD, where Brigham is unlicensed. Brigham used an 88-year old disabled physician, George Shepard, Jr., who holds a Maryland medical license, to cover for the fact that he was doing abortions in MD without a license, which is a felony in that state.

Brigham admitted to doing abortions in MD, but argued that he believed it was legal for him to do so as long as Shepard was in the office. Shepard was deceptively listed on Brigham's Elkton clinic records as the physician of record even though he suffered a stroke that disabled an arm, making it impossible for Shepard to participate or assist in the risky late-term surgical abortions.

The New Jersey Attorney General's office, which argued for suspension, told the Board that it found Brigham's claims that he did not think he was breaking the law by practicing in Maryland to be without credibility.

"Brigham has now admitted that he did in fact commit abortions in MD, where he is not licensed. Based on that, we renew our call for criminal charges in MD and add to it our call on the State of NJ to criminally charge Brigham as well," said Operation Rescue President Troy Newman.

"In addition to revocation, criminal charges are necessary because traditional discipline does not work on Brigham. The only thing that will stop his crime spree is to put him in jail where he belongs. In addition, his abortion mills need to be closed in the interest of public safety. As long as they remain open, women remain at risk from Brigham's dangerous and deceptive business practices."

New Stanek WND.com column, "The abortion nurse's daughter: Inside minds at the mill"

Last week I described Abigail Seidman's upbringing as the daughter of an abortion clinic nurse.

This week I'll discuss what Abigail saw inside the mill where her mother worked. I have always been intrigued with the psyche of abortion workers and asked Abigail extensively about this....

I asked Abigail if the clinic aborted women who weren't pregnant. Yes, she said, adding the clinic owner often joked "anyone who wants an abortion can have one, whether she's pregnant or not!"

I asked Abigail if due dates were ever adjusted....

"I don't remember a woman ever being turned away because she was too advanced in her pregnancy," Abigail wrote me. "The latest date I ever heard was 28 weeks, although women were always told their date was 16 weeks or less."

What did staff think of aborting mothers? "They called them 'stupid sluts' if it wasn't their first abortion, or 'brood mares' if they chose life and left before aborting," wrote Abigail.

There was one particular scandal Abigail recalled of a clinic worker who accidentally got pregnant but decided against abortion....

She would daily taunt pro-lifers by flashing her pregnant belly at sidewalk counselors, crowing, "Today's the day! I'm having an abortion!"

She didn't, of course, but continued to facilitate abortions after her daughter was born, bringing her to work so she could breast-feed. "I was charged with babysitting, upstairs in the clinic library," Abigail wrote....

Former Chinese protest leader Chai Ling hails Nobel Peace Prize Award to Liu Xiaobo

BOSTON, Oct. 8, 2010/Christian Newswire --

Former 1989 student protest leader Chai Ling on Friday hailed the decision to award the 2010 Nobel Peace to Chinese dissident Liu Xiaobo and called for prayers for his release from prison and for the salvation of China.

Chai, who was nominated twice for the Nobel Peace Prize for her leadership role in the 1989 Tiananmen Square protests, recalled the "bonding experience" of spending the last hours of the movement with Liu on the square in central Beijing.

"Liu Xiaobo and I were in the last group at Tiananmen when the tanks moved in. Together we stood our ground, advocating... non-violence until the last hour," Ms. Chai said.

She applauded Liu's steadfast efforts in the 21 years since those protests were violently suppressed by the Chinese military. Liu was imprisoned after the 1989 crackdown, and was sentenced again in 2009 to 11 years in prison for co-authoring a declaration, called Charter 08, championing political reform, greater human rights, and an end to one-party rule in China.

Chai called the Nobel Committee's decision "a milestone" and said she was "thankful for the Nobel peace prize committee for finally standing up and doing the right thing to acknowledge heroes like Liu and what he represents." She expressed the hope that "the Western leadership would follow the Nobel Committee's example and stand up for human rights and the development of a civil society in China."

Chai in particular called on U.S. President Obama, the 2009 Nobel Peace Prize winner, "to step up the pressure on China" on human rights issues and for the release of Liu and Chinese Christian human rights lawyer Gao Zhisheng, who has been repeatedly kidnapped, arrested, imprisoned and tortured by Chinese authorities for defending the persecuted.

Chai, who became a Christian almost a year ago, called on all Christians to pray for Liu and Gao's release and for "more people to join the movement to bring peace and salvation to China." She also asked Christians to remember the lives lost each day as a result of China's one-child policy, a death toll that far exceeds the number who died in the Tiananmen crackdown. In September, Chai founded the advocacy group All Girls Allowed to fight the one-child policy and to support women's and babies' rights.

New RU-486 data points to telemed abortion complication cover-up

Des Moines, IA/October 6, 2010/Operation Rescue --

New data released in the U.S. and Australia concerning complications to the abortion pill, RU 486, also known as Mifepristone or Mifeprex appears to point to a cover-up of the true complication rate to telemed abortions done by Planned Parenthood of the Heartland (PPH).

On September 30, 2010, the Centers for Disease Control revealed in the New England Journal of Medicine that there have been 2 more deaths from the abortion pill, 1 in 2008 and one just last year, bringing the U.S. death toll to 10 since the FDA approved the drug in 2000.

In addition, The Australian reported on October 2, 2010, that complications to usage of the RU486 abortion pill in that country is causing concern.

"It should raise serious questions about the ethicacy and appropriateness of this method of termination," said Australian Senator Guy Barnett of Tasmania.

Australia's reported complications are disturbing. Between December of last year, when restrictions on the abortion pill was relaxed, and July of 2010, there have been a reported 3,000 medical abortions reported in three provinces, a number that can be generally compared to PP of the Heartland's figure of 1,900 medical abortions done through their remote-controlled push-button abortion pill distribution scheme, known as telemed abortions.

In Australia, the drugs completely failed in 14 cases, and in another 110 cases reported such "adverse effects" as retention of the placenta, retention of aborted baby remains, conditions that require emergency surgery.

This represents a 4.1% complication rate requiring surgical abortion or emergency surgery - and this is with the benefit of the oversight of licensed physicians, a figure that is concerning to Australians, but is reflective of the reported complication rates elsewhere in the world.

Meanwhile, PPH has incredibly reported no complications in their nearly 2,000 remote controlled telemed abortions where a licensed physician only speaks with the patient for a few minutes over an Internet video connection, then never sees the patient again. The pills are distributed when the abortionist pushes a button in his or her office, opening a drawer containing the pills at the office where the patient is located.

"The numbers simply do not add up. Either Planned Parenthood of the Heartland is engaging in an intentional cover-up of telemed abortion complications or it is an indication that they provide essentially no follow-up for patients once they load them on abortion pills and send them out the door. Either scenario would be gross misconduct on PPH's part that further endangers the lives of women," said Operation Rescue spokesperson Cheryl Sullenger.

In fact, a confidential informant with first-hand knowledge of the inner working of PPH has come forward to tell Operation Rescue that the telemed abortion scheme shows a "revolting lack of concern" for the lives and health of women. The informant insists that the scheme was developed with a high profit margin in mind, not the best interests of women. According to the informant, who has spoken to OR on the condition of anonymity out of fear of reprisals, PPH has traditionally attempted to distance the organization from any abortion complications, having a "Hear-no-evil, See-no-evil" attitude.

"Planned Parenthood doesn't deal with complications," said the informant. "They send the women to the ER."

"From the new data, we can see that the abortion pill is more dangerous than thought, with an additional two deaths having been reported in the past two years. We can also see that a zero percent complication rate is statistically impossible. Why would Planned Parenthood of the Heartland engage in a cover-up about the true dangers of their push-button abortions? Perhaps it is to conceal their negligent lack of follow-up care and protect their profit potential," said Sullenger.

"This is an unethical and outrageous exploitation of women. Their dishonesty on this matter presents an immediate danger to the public."

The Iowa Board of Medicine is currently investigating complaints filed by Operation Rescue and others against abortionists involved in the push-button pill scheme. Pro-life groups assert that the telemed abortion process is illegal since Iowa law mandates that abortions can only be done by licensed physicians, which are never present at any time during the remote abortion pill process.

Even an editorial published by the Des Moines Register on September 5, 2010, essentially admitted that telemed abortions are illegal in Iowa and called for a change in the laws to allow them.

"Instead of changing the law, how about enforcing it," said Operation Rescue President Troy Newman. "It is shocking that the Des Moines Register would advocate for endangering women by decriminalizing the unlicensed practice of medicine. It shows that for these people, abortion politics and profit come before the health and safety of women."

The IBM has made it clear, however, that they lack the oversight to stop the procedure and can only discipline licensed physicians if the standard of care has been violated.

However, the IBM can produce public policy guidelines concerning the use - or misuse - of telemedicine in Iowa. An Ad Hoc committee has been appointed to look into the use of telemedicine, including PPH's push-button abortions. A public hearing to discuss public policy guidelines has been scheduled for October 22, 2010.

Operation Rescue and other pro-life groups plan to be in attendance.

"We must hold the Board accountable to the law and demand an end to this illegal and dangerous practice of distributing abortion pills over the Internet without the presence or oversight of a licensed physician," said Sullenger. "Planned Parenthood has already admitted that they want to expand their telemed abortion system into every state, and that would represent an unprecedented danger to women and their babies. For the sake of vulnerable women, we must stop this dangerous remote controlled abortion scam here and now."

Operation Rescue is seeking women who have suffered complications to telemed abortions in Iowa. Click here to learn more or to tell your story to us.

New Stanek WND.com column, "The abortion nurse's daughter"

When Abigail Seidman was 10 years old her mother had an abortion. Abigail suspects her father was not the baby's father, and her parents eventually divorced.

Abigail describes her childhood until that time as normal. But the abortion "radicalized" her mother, Abigail told me, who came to decide abortion had not only been the right decision for her but was also good in a moral sense....

Abigail's mother was and is a nurse. She became more involved in feminism and the abortion culture. She decided to switch careers and began working at her local abortion mill in Toledo, Ohio, as well as her local Planned Parenthood, which did not commit abortions.

On Abigail's 11th birthday, her mother put her on the birth-control pill, admonishing her not to have sex but to nevertheless take precautions, since she could be raped....

As Abigail's mother became more deeply involved with feminism, she told Abigail all people were naturally bisexual and androgynous and that gender and sexuality were merely social constructs. She cut Abigail's waist-length hair short, which she was not allowed to grow out again until she was an adult. She encouraged Abigail at age 12 to identify openly as a bisexual and forced her to wear GLBT pins on her backpack....

The clinic owner where Abigail's mother worked was a Wiccan. Most of her new friends followed a Wicca-oriented New Age path and worshipped fertility, warrior and death goddesses. Abigail's mother dabbled in all the aforementioned but settled on Buddhism. She banned Bibles and discussion of Christianity from the house....

When Abigail turned 13 her mother began pulling her from school on Fridays to work as a "deathscort" at her abortion mill....

3 MI abortion mills cited by Civil Rights Office for violating HIPAA laws

South Lyon, MI/October 4, 2010/Citizens for a Pro-life Society --

After a 2-year investigation, Woman Care, Sharpes Family Planning and Women's Advisory abortion clinics were all found to be violation of Federal HIPAA statutes in the improper disposition of patients' health care records. The Chicago Office for Civil Rights began an investigation of the three clinics after a formal complaint was filed by pro-life activist Monica Migliorino Miller, director of Citizens for a Pro-life Society in September 2008.

In February, March and April 2008 members of CPLS conducted searches of the trash dumpsters used by these clinics. The clinics repeatedly dumped whole patient records, including intake forms, abortion appointment schedule sheets, recovery room reports, lab reports, insurance forms, photo-copied driver's licenses, applications for financial aid to off-set the cost of the abortion and other documents that revealed personal health care information.

Hundreds of patient records were recovered, the largest share from the Woman Care clinic, located in Lathrup Village, MI, and owned by Alberto Hodari. In addition to the patient records, extensive bio-hazard waste and the remains of aborted unborn children were also discovered at the clinic dumpsters. Sharpes Family Planning is located in Detroit with its sister clinic, Women's Advisory, located in Livonia, MI. The latter clinics are operated by Reginald Sharpe. Miller filed the HIPAA complaints in September 2008 and OCR notified the clinics of its federal investigation in December of that year. A 4th investigation is still pending regarding Eastpointe Gynecology, owned by Jacob Kalo - another Detroit abortion clinic.

2 years after Miller filed her complaints, the OCR sent letters to Miller, dated September 28 and 29, 2010, informing her that the OCR supported her allegations. Sharpes Family Planning and Women's Advisory "acknowledged that the disclosures occurred as alleged." Woman Care clinic offered an explanation that a janitorial service, contracted by the clinic, was responsible for the violations.

Miller states: "When the discovery was first made public, Hodari told MI authorities that poorly trained clinic staff was responsible. However, we found numerous patient records several weeks in a row along with all of the horrid bio-hazard waste. I believe that this was the usual Hodari protocol and that he was dumping patient records, bio-hazard waste and fetal remains into that trash dumpster for years. (see video of CPLS discoveries at www.prolifesociety.com). There is no way that such complete disregard for medical standards and disrespect for those women occurred without Hodari and these other abortionists knowing about it!"

In its letters to Miller the OCR states that the clinics have complied with their directives and put into place policies and practices to ensure that future HIPAA violations do not occur.

Miller states: I'm glad that the OCR took these complaints seriously, but I have to say, the clinics are getting off with just another slap on the hand. Where are the real penalties for the flagrant violations they committed? Where's the justice for the women whose rights and dignity they violated? The OCR should have made these abortionists pay heavy fines and retribution. These are serious violations of HIPAA law and after two years of waiting, the outcome is rather disappointing. The OCR could have sent a real message to other abortion providers and that opportunity was missed."

Coalition on Abortion/Breast Cancer identifies 6 myths about breast cancer

MEDIA ADVISORY, Oct. 4, 2010/Christian Newswire --

It must be Christmas in October for the breast cancer charity industry, notes Joel Brind, Professor of Biology and Endocrinology and Deputy Chair for Biology and Environmental Sciences at Baruch College, City University of New York. It is that time of year when breast cancer profiteers and misinformed writers for health publications spread myths about breast cancer to an unsuspecting public.

The Coalition on Abortion/Breast Cancer has published an open letter to editors at Prevention asking them to make corrections in its story, "12 myths to ignore about breast cancer," for the sake of protecting women's lives. [1] The Coalition is also publishing a real list of breast cancer myths spread by the cancer charity industry. They are:

Myth #1: Scientists still have no idea what causes breast cancer.

Myth #2: There Is no cure for breast cancer.

Myth #3: Breast cancer is not preventable.

Myth #4: Most women diagnosed with breast cancer have no known risk factors for the disease.

Myth #5: Induced abortion does not increase breast cancer risk.

Myth #6: There is little or no risk associated with taking oral contraceptives (the pill).

The Coalition's open letter debunks these myths.

"Disease prevention is far better than being cured of that disease," said Karen Malec, president of the Coalition on Abortion/Breast Cancer, "especially when the cure entails the loss of a woman's breasts, chemotherapy and radiation. If the cancer charity industry had been honest about the risks of the pill, combined hormone replacement therapy and induced abortion when the evidence became available in the 1980s, many thousands of American lives could have been saved. It's crime impacting far more people than the recently reported atrocity involving U.S. government doctors who deliberately infected some Guatemalans with sexually transmitted diseases in the 1940s for the sake of science."

The Coalition on Abortion/Breast Cancer is an international women's organization founded to protect the health and save the lives of women by educating and providing information on abortion as a risk factor for breast cancer.

Obama Admin Targets Pro-Lifers in FBI Training Forum With Pro-Abortion Orgs

Washington, DC (LifeNews.com) -- Documents LifeNews.com obtained today reveal the Obama administration partnered with leading pro-abortion organizations to host an FBI training seminar in August with the main focus of declaring as "violent" the free speech activities of pro-life Americans.

On August 25, 2010, the FBI and the United States Department of Justice co-sponsored a training seminar with Planned Parenthood, the National Abortion Federation and the Feminist Majority Foundation.

When information about the seminar, which took place at FBI headquarters in Portland, Oregon, reached pro-life advocates, they asked officials for permission to attend and were granted access to the seminar and the training materials.

FBI and Obama administration officials provided participants with an 84-page document entitled "Resource Guide: Violence Against Reproductive Health Care Providers" that contained print copies of Power Point presentations prepared by the Justice Department and an analysis of alleged pro-life "violence" prepared by the pro-abortion groups.

The so-called violence perpetrated by pro-life advocates mostly contained examples of constitutionally-protected free speech, including activities such as praying, providing women outside abortion centers with alternatives information, and peaceful protesting or picketing.

Matt Bowman, a top attorney at the Alliance Defense Fund, told LifeNews.com today that the cooperation between the Obama administration and pro-abortion organizations to target pro-life free speech should cause alarm.

"The information presented in the seminar raises serious concerns over the United States government's treatment of nonviolent free speech activities as 'violence' subject to investigation and prosecution," he said.

"Abortionist organizations have long lobbied to use the law to silence free speech activities. But in this seminar the FBI and USDOJ included those views in their own training seminar materials," he added. "This raises serious concerns about the United States government investigating peaceful, legal free speech activity in efforts that are ostensibly aimed at violence."

The Obama administration documents, on page 39-41 specifically list the names of pro-life organizations and websites sponsored by peaceful nonviolent groups.

Some of the organizations named in the FBI/DOJ seminar materials include 40 Days for Life, the ACLJ, Concerned Women for America, National Right to Life, Priests for Life, and Students for Life of America.

Julie Abbate of USDOJ, who presented at the seminar, is the attorney who filed a federal lawsuit in August 2010 against a pro-life advocate solely for leafleting while, allegedly, one time, crossing a driveway in front of an abortion center.

"The lawsuit is further evidence that USDOJ is putting its resources into prosecuting peaceful activity on public sidewalks, rather than violence," Bowman said.

Looking at some of the examples of pro-life free speech pegged as violence, pages 5 and 20 discuss and tabulate "violence statistics" including "disruption," but define "disruption" as including "picketing," which accounts for almost 90% of all the incidents listed in the FBI, USDOJ materials.

An entire section of the document is devoted to laws that address non-violent picketing in residential locations, at pages 77-84, as do the FMF surveys relied on in "The History of Violence," page 11.

"The History of Clinic Violence" includes "the use of huge anti-abortion posters" on college and university campuses, and it identifies "boycotts against abortion providers" as another example. It complains of "the ability to publish almost anything on the Internet," and of free speech lawsuits. These are all summarized as "The landscape of violence and harassment aimed at abortion providers."

On page 67, the Justice Department says prosecuting federal law includes "gathering evidence" on "Leaflets or pamphlets" that pro-life targets are distributing, and "Signs [the] suspect was carrying."

The documents indicate Planned Parenthood "maintain[s] a database of names, photos, license plate etc. of anti-choice groups and individuals" and that they work "proactively" with local law enforcement.

Pages 18 and 19 summarize an FMF survey discussing "intimidation," and includes the distribution of leaflets labeled "Pamphlets Targeting Staff," and any "noise disturbance." These would include leaflets that warn women that specific abortion practitioners have killed women in botched abortions. This free speech activity constitutes a significant percent of the survey activities labeled "intimidation."

The joint Obama administration-pro-abortion FBI training seminar follows on the heels of the Department of Homeland Security engaging in several instances of tracking or monitoring pro-life advocates and concluding they represent a security threat.

Last year, DHS Secretary Janet Napolitano included pro-lifers in a report on domestic terrorism.

In the document, the Department of Homeland Security warned law officials about a supposed rise in "rightwing extremist activity," saying the poor economy and presence of a black president could spark problems.

According to the Washington Times, a footnote attached to the nine-page report from the Homeland Security Office of Intelligence and Analysis said the activities of pro-life advocates is included in "rightwing extremism in the United States."

"It may include groups and individuals that are dedicated to a single-issue, such as opposition to abortion or immigration," the warning said.

After that, in May 2009, details emerged about a terrorism dictionary the administration had put together in March. The Domestic Extremism Lexicon called pro-life advocates violent and claims they employ racist overtones in engaging in criminal actions.

In February 2010, DOHS admitted it conducted an improper threat assessment of pro-life advocates in Wisconsin before an expected rally last year in response to the University of Wisconsin Hospital board decided to allow abortions.

In February 2009, an Oklahoma man with a homemade pro-life sign on his vehicle was pulled over and harassed by police for allegedly making a threat against the president.
