No more taxpayer funding for abortion

WASHINGTON, July 30, 2010/Christian Newswire --

Yesterday Congressman Christopher H. Smith, who represents the 4th District of New Jersey, officially filed the No Taxpayer Funding for Abortion Act. According to Congressman Smith, the policies codified in the Act ensure that the "American taxpayer is not involved in funding the destruction of innocent human life through abortion on demand."

If the Act becomes law it will protect life because it 1) establishes a government-wide statutory prohibition of taxpayer-funded abortion; 2) reduces the need for separate abortion funding policies; and 3) ensures that no federal program or federal agency is exempt. The Act is drafted so that abortion funding polices will no longer be debated on an "as-needed" basis. Instead the Act establishes as permanent the policies that prevent the destruction of innocent human life. Policies that currently rely on re-approval by Congress, just to name a few, are the Hyde Amendment, which prohibits funding for elective abortion coverage funded through the Labor, Health and Human Services Appropriations Act, and the Helms Amendment, which prohibits funding for abortion as a method of family planning overseas.

Another important provision in the Act is the conscience clause, which codifies the Hyde-Weldon conscience clause contained within the Hyde Amendment. The conscience clause ensures that recipients of federal funding do not discriminate against healthcare providers because they do not provide, fund, or refer for abortion. Healthcare providers protected by the conscience clause include doctors, nurses and hospitals.

"We congratulate Congressman Smith for authoring a commonsense measure that protects the unborn," states Dana Cody, President and Executive Director of the Life Legal Defense Foundation. "Should this Act become law, Congressman Smith and those who cosponsored the bill will have taken one step toward restoring respect for human life in America."

'Father of pro-life activism' Joe Scheidler calls on Catholic hospitals to recommit to Catholic values

CHICAGO, July 28, 2010/Christian Newswire --

On the eve of a demonstration protesting an abortionist on staff at a Catholic CO hospital, Joe Scheidler, the national director of the Pro-Life Action League, is calling on all Catholic hospitals and institutions to recommit themselves to the values and principles they were founded on.

"Catholic hospitals should be permeated with the Catholic vision, not scandalized by having an abortionist on staff," said Scheidler, who has been fighting against abortion for more than 40 years. "This isn't just happening in Colorado, but this instance highlights the importance of looking beyond the mission statement and into the daily practices of any Catholic institution."

In Colorado, Dr. Richard Grossman is on staff at Mercy Regional Hospital and also performs abortions at the local Planned Parenthood. His writings have indicated that he is anti-Catholic. Scheidler comments:

Grossman's presence on the staff of Mercy Regional Hospital not only gives grave scandal, but gives this abortionist respectability that he is not entitled to, since he spends every Wednesday at 'Abortion, Incorporated,' Planned Parenthood.

As bioethics become increasingly complex and moral relativism continues to spread nationwide, I encourage all Catholic institutions to take the high road and aggressively pursue our mission as Catholics in health care, education and social justice ministries.

He adds that at the risk of lawsuits or threats, Catholic institutions should seek to employ only those whose values match the mission of the Catholic Church.

Scheidler is scheduled to speak at a press conference and protest on Thursday, July 29 at Mercy Regional Medical Center in Durango, CO. For more information on this event, click here.

'Eggsploitation' documentary reveals infertility industry secrets

WASHINGTON, July 28, 2010/Christian Newswire --

A new documentary, "Eggsploitation," just released by The Center for Bioethics and Culture Network reveals shocking secrets of the infertility industry. The documentary exposes the "deceptive advertising, large monetary incentives and appeals to altruism" that are used by the infertility industry to entice college women to engage in human egg donation, a practice that the CBCN claims exploits them and puts them at "considerable" health risk. While the documentary is available now, its official debut will be August 9 at The Little Theatre in Rochester, NY

Dr. Janice Shaw Crouse, Director and Senior Fellow of Concerned Women for America's Beverly LaHaye Institute, applauds CBCN for exposing the infertility industry's blatant exploitation of women. She said, "Today's college coeds are told that the procedure is safe, when the reality is decidedly unsafe. No young woman should be used in procedures that jeopardize her own fertility -- indeed her own life -- in order to line the pockets of those who promote the infertility industry's human egg trade."

The Eggsploitation documentary spotlights three women who went through the egg donation process -- including high doses of fertility drugs and egg retrieval surgery. The young women's stories, according to CBCN, are a "wake-up call" for those who are unaware of the complications that can result from the "highly unregulated, multi-billion-dollar" infertility industry. All three of the women in the documentary nearly died from the "complications associated with their egg donation." One suffered a stroke that left her brain damaged; another developed breast cancer, and the other developed a health problem associated with ovarian hyper-stimulation.

Crouse continued, "The human egg donation industry is shameless in claiming safety for the procedure as they solicit young college women through appeals to their vanity, claiming that the girls' attractiveness, IQ, or genetic traits warrant a high payment for participation in what they call a 'humanitarian' act. CWA appeals to the public to protect the nation's young women from such exploitation."

Moms served by PRCs share testimonials with Congress

WASHINGTON/July 27, 2010/Christian Newswire --

Women who rejected the choice to abort their babies bring their children to Washington D.C. as part of Heartbeat's Babies Go to Congress. Heartbeat International provides an opportunity on Capitol Hill for women to speak publicly about their gratitude for the support they received when faced with an unexpected pregnancy. Moms will testify before elected officials that pregnancy help centers are good for America.

Danica Fountain
of AZ felt pressured to abort her baby, but she says, "I was absolutely shocked to see that this so called 'blob of tissue,' the term I so commonly heard people use when referencing a pregnancy this early on, was in fact a fully formed baby! She had a head, arms and legs."

"When I saw my baby's heart beating I knew I would do anything to protect my child," said Fountain, who will meet with members of Congress this week. "The emotional support I received from the pregnancy center helped me realize that I could succeed as a single mom. So I continued in my full time position, knowing they were there if I needed more encouragement or practical help. I can never thank the Women's Center of Tucson enough."

"I am grateful that these busy moms have made it a priority to travel to our Nation's capital to share such positive things about pregnancy help centers," said Heartbeat President Peggy Hartshorn, Ph.D. "This is a testament to the fact that our elected officials need to support public policy that preserves the bond between mother and child."

"These moms and babies put real faces on the abortion issue as they testify to the fact that pregnancy help centers are serving women," said Heartbeat Public Policy/PR Director Virginia Cline. "Heartbeat affiliates provide options and resources for pregnant women who are not satisfied with the choice to abort a child. Families are strengthened by the life affirming work of pregnancy help ministries."

"Aid for Women assisted me throughout my pregnancy and well after my daughter was born. Ever since, they have been my rock," said Terrie Thompson, a client of Heartbeat's Chicago affiliate. "They have remained steadfast. When I lost my apartment, they helped me find shelter. When I couldn't work, they supported me financially, and when I needed support, they were there for me emotionally. They listen with an open ear and heart, and always help me find solutions. For that, I thank them."

Why would you want more abortion on TV?

I was waiting for this to happen. Fox TV network decided not to air an episode of "Family Guy" because it deals with the issue of abortion. The show's creator, Seth MacFarlane is releasing the episode on its DVD series this fall.

Here's the part I was waiting for...a spirited retort from what I assume to be the "choice" side.

Mary Elizabeth Williams, a writer for Salon, discussed last week how this "Family Guy" situation exemplifies how television is not ready and too "timid" to tackle the subject of abortion.

In her article, she gives a lot of examples of tv shows in the past barely brushing the subject of an unexpected pregnancy, quickly weighing the options of abortion or childbirth before choosing to go with childbirth.

She's right about that. Abortion has been brushed by tv with the tiniest of brushes. It's happened a dozen times. An unwanted pregnancy happens to a character on X tv show, and the result is that life is usually chosen.

I think it's because tv executives have a conscience. Everyone knows that abortion is a topic that gets most people squirming. Yes, it is a "legally acceptable procedure" at this time, as Williams points out. However, it is not morally acceptable which is why "Family Guy" is getting the attention it is for the episode they produced. That's also why the character on X tv show usually does not terminate her pregnancy. The viewers wouldn't be able to deal with it, and the show would lose supporters....

Life Legal Defense Foundation gets all criminal charges against pro-life youth dismissed

BIRMINGHAM, AL/July 23, 2010/Christian Newswire --

The City of Birmingham's Legal Department dismissed all criminal charges against nine members of the Survivors who were arrested in February 2009 and jailed overnight for displaying pro-life signs and handing out literature on a public sidewalk outside a high school in Birmingham. The pro-life youth activists were represented by Life Legal Defense Foundation staff attorney Allison Aranda, along with local attorney Nicholas Beckham.

Despite video evidence of the events showing the team peacefully and lawfully exercising free speech rights on the public sidewalk, the City filed trespass charges against the individuals claiming that the young people unlawfully entered school property. "While we are elated that justice has finally come to the 9 youth who were falsely arrested," said Dana Cody, Executive Director of the Life Legal Defense Foundation. "These meritless charges should have been dismissed long ago." Ms. Cody noted, "The City's delay in doing what justice demands has cost these young people employment opportunities and sullied their reputations for the past year and a half."

A civil lawsuit was filed on June 11, 2010, to seek redress for the unlawful actions of Birmingham police officers in falsely arresting the pro-life demonstrators and prohibiting their peaceful free speech activity on the public sidewalk adjacent to Parker High School.

The dismissal of the criminal charges comes in the wake of last week's victory in the related civil lawsuit, where a federal district court in Alabama approved a consent order ensuring that police will not interfere with the expressive activities of the pro-life youth group Survivors of the Abortion Holocaust during events that will take place over the next few days while the group is back in Birmingham, Alabama.

The Ladies of the View Don't Know Jack About Kevorkian

Recently Al Pacino played Jack Kevorkian in a HBO movie called "You Don't Know Jack." Kevorkian was also the subject of an HBO documentary called simply "Kevorkian" which aired June 28, 2010.The ladies of "The View" talked about this movie and they viewed things in an emotional way.

Whoopi Goldberg described Jack Kevorkian as a "doctor who had invented a machine to help terminally ill people voluntarily end their lives painlessly."

"It's a very lonely thing to take your own life. You need help with that. When you're very ill, and you're in pain, and the life quality is horrifying, you need help with that," said Joy Behar.

Barbara Walters talked as if Kevorkian had been hounded by the law unfairly and was heroic in his efforts to stand up for what is right."They took his medical license away," she said. "They prosecuted him three times. They finally found him guilty and he served seven years in prison. I interviewed him four times. He was interesting and rather weird. He fully believed people should have this right. He didn't have to go to jail. He could have copped a plea."

Then we were treated to a clip from the HBO movie in which Kevorkian explains how he turned away 90% of the people who want his help, and how he demands a second and third opinion before he "helps" them die.

Dr. Alveda King picking up where uncle left off

The Pro Life Freedom Ride begins tonight, with Dr. Alveda King and Fr. Frank Pavone leading the bugle charge. Dr. King is a mirror image of her civil rights hero, Dr. Martin Luther King Jr, in that she is standing up for equal rights for everyone, including the unborn.

"The pro-life movement is the civil rights movement," declares Dr. King

Dr. Alveda King is the Director of African American Outreach for Priests for Life.

"The most obvious practitioner of racism in the United States today is Planned Parenthood, an organization founded by the eugenicist Margaret Sanger and recently documented as ready to accept money to eliminate black babies," added Dr. King in an article from Catholic.org.

Dr. King is correct. Planned Parenthood founder, Margaret Sanger, was quoted as saying the following in reference to the extermination of the African-American population:

"We do not want word to go out that we want to exterminate the Negro population, if it ever occurs to any of their more rebellious members." (Woman's Body, Woman's Right: A Social History of Birth Control in America, by Linda Gordon)

GA voters 1st to say 'YES' to personhood amendment

LAWRENCEVILLE, GA/July 21, 2010/Christian Newswire --

Throughout the state yesterday, voters supported an amendment to the GA State Constitution that said the "right to life is vested in each human being from their earliest biological beginning until natural death" and that right should be protected by law.

In all 46 counties where the amendment was presented, it passed overwhelmingly by an amazing 75%! Georgia is the first state in the nation where voters have said "Yes" to the Personhood question.

Georgia Right to Life chapters began work this spring in requesting that their local county parties place this non-binding "party" question on their local party ballots. Both Democrat and Republican parties were approached. Butts county was the only county to succeed in getting both parties to cooperate and approve the measure (Republicans 79% and the Democrats 72%). "There is no question that the people of GA would pass a Personhood Amendment" IF given the chance!", says Dan Becker, President of GA RTL. "The ball is now in the Legislature's hands to allow the people a voice on the most pressing human rights issue of the 21st century... deny them at your own peril."

In 2011, GA RTL will use the results of the ballot to lobby the GA Legislature to place a constitutional amendment on the 2012 general election ballot.

The counties in GA and their percentages are: Bacon (88%), Banks (85%), Bartow (81%), Brantley (88%), Bulloch (84%), Burke (86%), Butts -Republican ballot (79%), Butts Democratic ballot (72%), Carroll (80%), Chatham (78%), Cherokee (75%), Clayton (77%), Coffee (87%), Colquitt ( 85%), DeKalb (60%), Dooly (87%), Fannin (80%), Fulton (62%), Glynn (72%), Gordon (85%), Gwinnett (71%), Hall (78%), Hart (83%), Jackson (82%), Jasper (76%), Jeff Davis (92%), Jones (80%), Lamar (80%), Liberty (78%), Lowndes (85%), Murray (88%), Muscogee (81%), Paulding (80%), Pickens (75%), Pierce (89%), Spalding (80%), Thomas (84%), Tift (84%), Towns (81%), Troup (82%), Twiggs (87%), Union (78%), Walker (85%), Walton (82%), Ware (87%), Wilcox (86%), Worth (85%).

Culture of Death: Rationing abundance

The recess appointment of Dr. Donald Berwick as head of the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services (CMS) has triggered alarm among various quarters for his self-professed admiration of health care rationing as seen in other countries such as Britain's National Health Service. The issue here moves well past the politics and begs the question: How have we as a society become so deadened to the value of human life, that in our abundance of wealth and blessing from God we could seriously entertain the word "rationing" as applied to health care for our elders, for the poorest among us?

This move is a game-changer on so very many levels. Juxtaposed with the almost weekly reports of breakthroughs in cancer therapy, treatment of chronic conditions and adult stem cell therapies, this is not only an odd moment for considering rationing health care, but a dire threat to the advancement of science. A society that commits itself to death as a solution to its self-inflicted financial wounds cannot long endure as a pioneer of extending and improving the quality of life through research in the biomedical sciences; not when the government that funds such research is busy eliminating the need for it.

So how did we get here? ...

MI's abortions decreased in 2009

The number of abortions performed in MI decreased in 2009, according to recently released statistics from the MI Dept. of Community Health. The report from the MI DCH states that 22,357 abortions were performed in MI during 2009 compared to 25,970 MI abortions reported in 2008 - a drop of 13.9% or 3,613 abortions.

Since 1987, there has been a 54.4% decrease in the number of abortions performed in Michigan annually. Abortions in MI have decreased in 4 of the last 6 years and the number of abortions performed in 2009 represents the lowest annual total of reported abortions in Michigan since abortion providers were required to start reporting information in 1979.

Right to Life of MI President Barbara Listing said:

We are extremely grateful for the continuing decrease in Michigan abortions despite the hard economic times we've faced in Michigan. The fact that fewer mothers are having abortions in Michigan shows more and more women are coming to the realization that abortion is not the answer for an unplanned pregnancy.

Recently released polls from CBS and Gallup show our nation is turning its back on the idea that abortion is the solution to unplanned pregnancy. A CBS poll, conducted in April of 2010 found that 61% of Americans favor either stricter limits on abortion (38%) or that abortion should not be permitted (23%). A Gallup poll, released in May 2010, found that a plurality of Americans consider themselves "pro-life." For 2 years in a row, more Americans have called themselves "pro-life" than "pro-choice."

Obama sycophant SodaHead's July 15 blog post headline blared, "Latest Right-Wing Lie Blows Up In Their Faces: NO FEDERAL FUNDING FOR ELECTIVE ABORTION."

SodaHead was attempting to beat back conservatives who were in an uproar over National Right to Life's finding that federal funding for PA's health insurance high-risk pool includes abortion coverage....

Likewise, another of Obama's online guardians, Media Matters, quickly hurled a 1,700-word tome into the blogosphere with such cocky subtitles as (emphasis mine), "[Glenn] Beck repeats discredited claim that Obama admin has OK'd federal funding for elective abortions"....

The only problem is the abortion industry agrees with (all) pro-lifers (other than Democrats) that Obama's executive order didn't apply to high-risk pools and were furious when in the wake of NRLC's discovery a busted White House quickly directed DHHS to write rules ensuring that federal funds indeed would not go toward abortion in state high-risk pools....

So while Obama rags were proclaiming his innocence, pro-aborts who had smartly remained silent during the EO sham could no longer contain themselves and began writing just the opposite.

Jessica Arons at the pro-abort blog RH Reality Check snapped, "But here's the catch, nothing in federal law actually restricts the use of federal or state money for abortion in [high-risk pools]."

Rebecca Sive at the same site was even more frank, stating, "In fact, and as we all know, the executive order was nothing but a most willingly made sop to Rep. Stupak.... [T]he Executive Order's creation and signing was a deeply hypocritical and cynical act...."

Now Obama not only has to deal with the pro-life Democratic faction but also the media faction that wants to perpetuate the lie for him vs. the pro-abort faction demanding he give up the sham....

But I do note that increasingly we're seeing pro-aborts hoist on their own petard - and they're supposed to have the political advantage.

IN Planned Parenthood caught giving inaccurate info on fetal development

INDIANAPOLIS/July 20, 2010/Christian Newswire --

The youth-led pro-life group Live Action released a new undercover video today showing staff at an Indianapolis Planned Parenthood clinic using manipulative and medically inaccurate counseling to convince a young woman to have an abortion. This is the third undercover video Live Action has released showing abusive counseling practices at Planned Parenthood of Indiana.

When the woman, purportedly 10-weeks pregnant, asks the clinician, named "Sarah," when her baby's heart begins to beat, Sarah replies, "It's around I think the 8th or the 9th week that you can hear the heartbeat." The heart actually begins beating 3 weeks and 1 day after conception, according to Moore and Persaud's well-known textbook The Developing Human: Clinically Oriented Embryology. The Planned Parenthood clinician also insists, "It's not a baby, it's a fetus," which, she claims, is "not like a person."

In the video, Sarah assures the woman that "having an abortion is safer than carrying to term." The woman asks, "The abortion won't hurt me from having more kids in the future, will it?" and the counselor replies, "Nope." But a 2009 study from the Obstetrical and Gynecological Survey recently found that a previous abortion increased a woman's risk of pre-term birth by 20%, and a 2003 report from the Shanghai Institute of Planned Parenthood Research notes a 55% increased risk of future miscarriages for women who have abortions.

Lila Rose, UCLA student and president of Live Action, says the new footage places Planned Parenthood well outside the medical mainstream. "Planned Parenthood's counseling is based on its abortion-first mentality rather than the medical facts that women need," observes Rose. "Planned Parenthood gives vulnerable women misinformation to sell them the abortion." IN informed consent law requires that women receive accurate medical information before undergoing an abortion.

The undercover video is the third released by Live Action in the "Rosa Acuna Project," a multi-state undercover investigation of medical misinformation and manipulative counseling at Planned Parenthood, the largest abortion business in America. In the undercover "Mona Lisa Project," Live Action released footage of two Planned Parenthood Indiana clinics agreeing to cover-up the sexual abuse of a child. Indiana lawmakers have since sought to defund the state affiliate of over $3 million it receives annually in government grants.

"Citizens and lawmakers in Indiana must stop Planned Parenthood from using millions of dollars of taxpayer money to exploit young women," states Rose.

Bethany reports adoption increases up 26% for 2010

GRAND RAPIDS, MI/July 19, 2010/Christian Newswire --

As a result of increased attention due to January's earthquake crisis in Haiti and other external factors, Bethany Christian Services, the nation's largest adoption agency, is seeing significant growth and interest in the U.S. adoption market, with overall international and domestic adoption placements up 26% over the same time period in 2009.

The organization is reporting Intercountry Adoption placements up 66% and Intercountry Adoption inquiries ahead by more than 5,000 requests during the same 6-month time period of 2009, totaling an unprecedented 10,567 inquiries. Bethany ascribes these increases in part to the Haiti crisis and the need to find safe homes for children who lost one or both parents during the earthquake.

Domestic Infant Adoption inquiries are also higher than in 2009 with 8,037 in the first half of 2010. Additionally, Infant Adoption Home Studies have increased 15% and formal Infant Adoption applications have increased 23% over 2009.

In addition to the Haiti crisis, Bethany attributes the increase in adoption to new movements within Christian churches, which are creating new attitudes for young couples. Bethany has been instrumental in bringing more families forward to adopt by partnering with organizations such as Catalyst, Saddleback Church, Q Conference, Southern Baptist Denomination, and Christian Alliance for Orphans.

"The figures Bethany released show strong improvement as we confront the global orphan crisis, but the need still remains as there are still an incredible number of orphaned children who wait for their 'forever family'," said Bill Blacquiere, president and CEO at Bethany Christian Services. "It is our vision that every child has a loving family, so we are working to find new families and identify supportive local communities. We all must contribute to take measurable and immediate action in order to find more families who can provide loving homes."

Bethany has been at the forefront of partnering with church leaders to support foster care, adoption, and orphan care programs within their ministries. Most recently, the Southern Baptist Convention announced a new Adoption Fund, which subsidizes the cost of adoption for pastors by $2,000. In addition, Rick Warren's Saddleback Civil Forum focused heavily on orphans and adoption and other popular conferences, such as Catalyst, Together for Adoption, the Christian Alliance for Orphans Summit and Adopting for Life, have put adoption at center stage.

Obama sends US tax $ to Kenyan abortion advocacy groups

WASHINGTON, July 15, 2010/Christian Newswire --

New evidence reveals that the Obama administration has given up to $10M to groups in Kenya that are campaigning for a "Yes" vote on a new constitution that would legalize abortion. Though officials denied the U.S. government is trying to influence the election, documents from U.S. Agency for International Development show funding agreements with organizations to target certain populations to "drum up political support" for the draft constitution.

The U.S. Embassy in Nairobi claims the U.S. is neutral on the constitution. But an investigation launched by U.S. congressmen unearthed documents showing how the Obama Administration is funding outside organizations to influence the vote.

This same week, the Obama Administration was caught giving $160M to PA to fund a plan under ObamaCare that will cover any legal abortion in the state. Federal officials claim that, despite what is written in the plan, it will be limited to abortions in the case of rape, incest, and life of the mother.

"We can learn how the Obama Administration will behave in our own country by its actions in Kenya. Despite a federal law banning the government from using foreign aid to lobby for or against abortion, the Administration has given up to $10M to sway an election that would result in legalizing abortion. If President Obama is sincere in his promise to 'reduce the need for abortions,' then he must stop funding organizations - internationally and domestically - that are dedicated to increasing abortions," said Wendy Wright, President of Concerned Women for America.

New Stanek WND.com column, "Jimmy Kimmel crew tries to fry pro-lifer"

WND%20logo.gif

Abortion isn't very funny, as comedian Jimmy Kimmel is learning the hard way.

On June 25 the youth pro-life activist group Survivors of the Abortion Holocaust was holding a Face the Truth event in front of Grauman's Chinese Theatre on Hollywood Boulevard in Los Angeles, as was their First Amendment right.

"Face the Truth" is pro-life speak for showing the public the reality of abortion via large graphic photos of aborted babies.

jimmy kimmel photo.jpg

While the pro-life protest was under way, a film crew showed up to tape a stunt across the street for Jimmy Kimmel Live, seen weeknights on ABC.

But members of the crew quickly became aggravated by the gory aborted baby-photos and turned two of the hot spotlights on Survivor Ryan Bueler.

In this video, one of many captured by the Survivors, a cameramen states several times he has turned the spotlight on Bueler and his sign because "I don't want to see that," and "The fact is, I don't want to see it."...

The Pill's 50th: Documentary reveals largely hidden controversy

MEDIA ADVISORY, July 13, 2010/Christian Newswire --

Dr. Albert Mohler, seminary president has stated, "I cannot imagine any development in human history, after the Fall, that has had a greater impact on human beings than the pill."

View the full documentary "28 Days on the Pill."

A Christian worker, his family and a nurse friend investigate throughout North America to uncover the truth about the birth control pill. The debate has been raging for over a decade and yet many people don't know about it. How could this be? How does the pill really work? Can everyday oral contraceptives really cause abortions? Why are so many people uninformed? ...

Whether Christian or not, women across the board do not have a real understanding of how the pill actually works. Does it only prevent ovulation? What do the inserts and pharmaceutical guides really say? How is it that women consume something when they know very little about how it actually works? Do women and men really care?

The producers believe they should be given the opportunity to make an informed choice. No matter what one's conclusions are, they believe everyone has a right to full information and informed consent. Whether on the left or the right, we should all agree, informed consent in the medical community is paramount.

This is a good start to the investigative work of how informed we really are, what we take for granted, who might know and may not want to tell....

The documentary features: Dr. Albert Mohler (quoted in Time Magazine's recent article on The Pill), The Duggars (19 Kids and Counting), Christian author Randy Alcorn (i.e. Heaven, Does the Birth Control Pill Cause Abortions?) and Dr. Walt Larimore (formerly with Focus on the Family).

Marie Stopes abortion lies challenged

Cora Sherlock, a barrister writing in the Irish Independent, has challenged the claim by Gabrielle Malone, Irish spokesman for the Marie Stopes abortion business, that women have the universal right "to have the baby or terminate the pregnancy."

She points out that Malone implies that human beings derive their right to life (and the right to be called "a baby") only when they are deemed "wanted" by society:

It is deeply disappointing that someone who deals with women in vulnerable positions on a daily basis should hold such a questionable opinion on the value of human life. My frustration was compounded by her insistence that Irish women must be given the right to abortion and hence "control over their bodies".

Ms. Malone seems to be under the misapprehension that intelligent, modern women cannot understand the most recent scientific evidence that proves beyond any doubt that the unborn child is a separate human being with organs, brainwaves and individual fingerprints. ...

IVF is not just for inferility

A few years ago I went shopping for a brand new house. Every model home I visited, regardless of the builder, had a gigantic master suite with a spa-like enormous bathroom where every morning you could cartwheel your way to the shower and back flip to the toilet. Down the hall, placed almost like an afterthought, were 3 or 4 tiny little bedrooms whose total square feet might add up to the space provided in the palatial master suite.

After the 5th house or so, I realized this was an indicator that society's values had shifted. Builders were building what the buyer wanted, which was clearly parental desire and comfort at the child's expense. I also knew it wasn't a good sign.

These days it is all about what parents want, not about what is best for the children. There is nowhere where this attitude is more apparent than in the assisted reproduction industry. We all heard of the Octomom, but it goes so much deeper than that. In vitro fertilization, better known as IVF, is not just about infertility anymore, it is about human manufacturing to specifications.

Recently, two stories have been in the news that illustrate my point. Gillian and Paul St. Lawrence, both fertile and in their 30's, have used IVF to create 5 embryos. They have frozen their 5 offspring until it is more convenient for them to raise children. From the Washington Post:

Our five frozen embryos, which we call our baby blastocysts, will remain in storage until we are ready to use them. Since study after study has indicated that the age of the uterus at the time the embryo is implanted is almost irrelevant to the success rate of achieving a healthy baby, we can wait 10 or 15 years: The chief consideration may well be how old I want to be when I'm raising a teenager.

Upon hearing this, my mother-in-law was quick to ask: "You don't have to wait until you are 40 to use the embryos, right?" No, we do not. We can choose to use them any time. And, of course, my husband and I are still free to have babies the old-fashioned way. We still have all the options we had prior to this project -- but now we have some insurance against future infertility.

Five human lives have been created and put in "storage" until they are ready to "use" as the St. Lawrence's "project" to provide themselves "insurance." (Her words not mine.) There was a time we used "gift" and "blessing" when referring to children but in this Brave New World, "project" and "insurance" are more appropriate. IVF is now being used for human manufacturing to specifications. In this case, ordered with delayed delivery.

What is particularly chilling (no pun intended) is Gillian's description of how she weighed the pros and cons of freezing her offspring as if she was deciding whether the lasagna she made the night before would freeze well enough to still taste good in a few months.

NRLC: Berwick is a one-man death panel

WASHINGTON, DC/July 7, 2010/NRLC --

Today, President Obama used the power of the recess appointment to install Donald Berwick as the head of the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services (CMS), in an attempt to avoid examination, through the pending confirmation process, of Berwick's well-documented support for rationing health care.

"The Obama recess appointment of rationing advocate Donald Berwick to head the key government agency that will apply the new health care law is disastrous news for the vulnerable, especially the elderly and the sickest of American patients," said Burke Balch, J.D., director of National Right to Life's Powell Center for Medical Ethics.

Confirmation of Berwick would have faced strong opposition from pro-life Republican senators appalled by his open advocacy of government-imposed rationing of medical treatment. In a June 2009 interview with the journal Biotechnology Healthcare, Berwick said, "The decision is not whether or not we will ration care - the decision is whether we will ration with our eyes open."

In an article in the May/June 2008 issue of Health Affairs, he called for "rational collective action overriding some individual self-interest" so as to "reduce per capita costs." Lamenting that "[t]oday's individual health care processes are designed to respond to the acute needs of individual patients," Berwick wrote that instead government should "approach new technologies and capital investments with skepticism and require that a strong burden of proof of value lie with the proponent."

Berwick's advocacy of the decimation of American health care is long-standing. In a 1994 Journal of the American Medical Association article, he wrote, "Most metropolitan areas in the United States should reduce the number of centers engaging in cardiac surgery, high-risk obstetrics, neonatal intensive care, organ transplantation, tertiary cancer care, high-level trauma care, and high-technology imaging."

"Donald Berwick is a one-man death panel," said David N. O'Steen, Ph.D., National Right to Life executive director. "While Americans may not remember the agency he heads, he will quickly become known as Obama's rationing czar."

Berwick is also an enthusiastic supporter of Britain's National Institute for Clinical Excellence (NICE), the agency charged with determining which medical advances will - and which will not - be made available to the British public. Berwick claims NICE has "developed very good and very disciplined . . . models for the evaluation of medical treatment from which we ought to learn." England's 5-year cancer survival rate for men is only 45%, compared with 66% in the U.S. That for women is 53%, compared to 63% in the U.S. (See: Arduiono Verdecchia and others, "Recent Cancer Survival: a 2000-02 period analysis of EUROCARE-4 data," Lancet Oncology, 2007, no. 8, pages 784-796.)

The difference can in large measure be attributed to the refusal of NICE to authorized British use of pioneering cancer drugs routinely available in the United States. That is to say - currently routinely available in the United States - an availability Berwick will soon be using the power of government to curtail.

"President Obama's appointment of this open advocate of rationing to implement his health care law underlines the need for repeal before untold numbers of vulnerable Americans suffer death from denial of life-saving treatment," O'Steen added. "The Obama health care rationing law much be repealed and voters need to remember its deadly provisions in November."

Christian Defense Coalition condemns Obama's push for abortion rights in Kenya

WASHINGTON, July 6, 2010/Christian Newswire --

The Obama administration is offering incentives to Kenya to approve a controversial new constitution that would legalize abortion for the first time, promising that passage will "allow money to flow" into the nation's coffers, including U.S. aid.

Prior to the election of President Obama, the Washington DC based Christian Defense Coalition warned, "If elected, Barack Obama would become 'The Abortion President,' even forcing Catholics and Evangelicals to pay for abortions."

Rev. Patrick J. Mahoney, Director of the Christian Defense Coalition, states:

When then Senator Obama was campaigning for President, the Christian Defense Coalition launched a national campaign called 'Barack Obama, the Abortion President.' In that campaign, we said if elected Mr. Obama would be the most pro-abortion President in American history.

Sadly, this has turned out to be the case. President Obama lifted the Mexico City Policy which had prevented federal dollars from being used to fund and refer abortions in foreign countries. President Obama's national health care plan allows tax dollars to be used to provide and subsidize abortions. And now, his administration has linked aid and support to Kenya in return for them allowing abortion in their Constitution.

This is a gross trampling of human rights by the President and it should now be clear to every person of faith and good will that Mr. Obama has no regard for the dignity of human life and no commitment to social justice. To link economic aid with abortion is a betrayal of all the America stands for and once again shows the extreme and radical pro-abortion policies of this administration.

SBA List PAC endorses 8 more pro-life women candidates

WASHINGTON, DC/July 6, 2010/Christian Newswire --

Today the Susan B. Anthony List Candidate Fund, a national pro-life political action committee, announced its endorsement of Anne Marie Buerkle, candidate for NY-25; Renee Ellmers, candidate for NC-02; Kristi Noem, candidate for SD-AL, Star Parker, candidate for CA-37; Nikki Haley, candidate for SC-GOV; Jaime Herrera, candidate for WA-03, Rita Myer, candidate for WY-GOV and Diane Black, candidate for TN-06. SBA List Candidate Fund President Marjorie Dannenfelser said of the endorsements:

The emerging Year of the Pro-Life Woman is the most resounding affirmation of the SBA List's mission since our founding. America is embracing authentic feminism - one which returns to its suffragist, pro-life roots. These women are the brightest stars of a populist, pro-woman, pro-life grassroots movement that is determined to return the strength of femininity to feminism.
Referencing the diverse qualifications of pro-life legislators like Kristi Noem and pre-political successes of women like former nurse Renee Ellmers, Dannenfelser said:
These women are leading the fight to reclaim an authentic feminism that embraces protections for unborn children. They are laying the groundwork for the coming generation of women leaders. All successful in their respective fields, these women are poised to shape the Congress and state governments hungry for authentic pro-life feminist leadership. They have shed the grievance-driven style of feminist leadership, opting for a positive, inclusive agenda which accommodates mother and child.
These 8 women join a team of 22 other pro-life women candidates already endorsed this election cycle.

In the November general election, Anne Marie Buerkle will face incumbent Dan Maffei in NY-25, Renee Ellmers will challenge seven-term incumbent Bob Etheridge in NC-02, Kristi Noem will challenge EMILY's List-endorsed incumbent Stephanie Herseth Sandlin in SD-AL, Star Parker will challenge incumbent Laura Richardson for the CA-37, Nikki Haley will oppose Vincent Shaheen for the SC-GOV open seat. On August 5, Diane Black will face Lou Ann Zelnick and Jim Tracey in the TN-06 primary. Former state representative Jaime Herrera will face four other candidates in the August 14 WA-03 primary. Rita Myer will face four other candidates in the Wyoming gubernatorial primary on August 17....

Ending abortion: Force concentration as a new strategy

Brother Paul O'Donnell gave courageous public voice at last week's NRL Convention to what I have heard several pro-lifers say in private. There needs to be less territoriality and greater sharing of resources within the pro-life movement. I'll take that a step further and suggest that the pro-life movement too often is like a superior military dividing its forces in the face of the enemy and at best gaining very little ground....

The number of pro-life organizations numbers over a thousand.

What is needed now is a coordination of these groups that actually multiplies their firepower. In the military it's called Force Concentration, where all of one's forces are brought to bear on a particular point of the enemy's forces so as to overwhelm them and capture that territory. Then the forces are turned on the next enemy objective in an overwhelming manner and so on....

It isn't enough to fight honorably. We must do so strategically and tactically as well. When we identify a city and declare it a "No Abortion Zone", we need to marshal our resources and bring them to bear relentlessly until we break the back of Planned Parenthood and the local abortionists in that town....

Attack on pro-life teen by Jimmy Kimmel's tv crew

Hollywood, CA/July 1, 2010/Operation Rescue --

The Survivors have released a video showing members of Jimmy Kimmel's television crew burning a teenager with high-powered lamps, then ignoring pleas that they stop hurting the youngster. View the video HERE.

The teen, Ryan Bueler, was targeted for burning because he was exercising his First Amendment right to free speech by holding an abortion sign on Hollywood Blvd. in front of the Kodak Theater where the Kimmel crew was setting up to film a stunt for the Jimmy Kimmel Live show.

The video shows Survivors leader Jeff White and Operation Rescue's Troy Newman attempting to stop the attack by turning the burning lights away from the teens. At that point, White was attacked by a member of Kimmel's crew. His shirt was torn and his back sustained scratches. Newman was not injured in the melee.

Bueler suffered from reddened skin, akin to first degree burns. The lights were so hot that they partially melted his plastic wrist band and part of his sign.

When White then attempted to persuade a Los Angeles police officer to intervene, he was falsely arrested. Newman was threatened with arrest. The crew members who burned Bueler and injured White were not arrested. White was later released without any charges having been filed.

The Survivors later demanded an apology from Jimmy Kimmel for the illegal and injurious actions of his crew, but he has so far refused to apologize.

"This was a sadistic, unprovoked attack on a young man who was peacefully exercising his rights. Ryan was not interfering with the crew in any way. These men were behaving in a completely unprofessional and despicable manner. The attack on Jeff White and his subsequent arrest were vicious, illegal, and unfounded. We join with the Survivors in calling for a public apology from Jimmy Kimmel," said Newman.

As a result of Kimmel's unwillingness to "man-up" and apologize for the unacceptable and violent actions of his crew, the Survivors have staged protests at Kimmel's L.A. home. There will be additional protests in front of Kimmel's Hollywood Blvd. studio later today.
