Justice Alito to Obama: "not true"

During his State of the Union Address, President Obama asserted:

With all due deference to separation of powers, last week the Supreme Court reversed a century of law that, I believe, will open the floodgates for special interests, including foreign corporations, to spend without limit in our elections.

Justice Alito can be seen on the left, shaking his head and mouthing what appears to be "not true." Perhaps Obama's cheap shot at the High Court is rooted in the same concern expressed by pro-abortion radicals.

Jay Anderson comments:

This constitutional power play and effort at intimidation by Obama (with the full Court present at the SOTU speech) has to be about the most graceless and classless thing the man has done since taking office (although his mocking of the notion that morality might place some limits on scientific research during his speech announcing that he would fund ESCR ranks right up there).

President Obama's first State of the Union Address

At his first inaugural address, President Ronald Reagan discussed plainly the role of interventionist government economic policies on the woes of that time:

In this present crisis, government is not the solution to our problem; government is the problem. From time to time we've been tempted to believe that society has become too complex to be managed by self-rule, that government by an elite group is superior to government for, by, and of the people. Well, if no one among us is capable of governing himself, then who among us has the capacity to govern someone else? All of us together, in and out of government, must bear the burden.
President Obama has a different philosophy, one that asserts the federal government as the savior through social engineering, control of the means of production, a welfare state and centralized healthcare.

I appreciated the Family Research Council's quick response to Obama's proposed socialized child care proposal and support for gays in the military:

Washington, D.C. - Family Research Council President Tony Perkins released the following statement in response to President Obama's first State of the Union Address:

"At a time of enormous economic challenge, two on-going wars in which American are fighting and increased terrorist threats to Americans at home, President Obama seems untethered from that reality as he called on Congress to force the military to allow open homosexuality. As a veteran of the Marine Corps, the timing of the President's call in the midst of two wars shows that he is willing to jeopardize our nation's security to advance the agenda of the radical homosexual lobby.

"The military is a warrior culture for a reason: Our service members wear the uniform to fight and win wars, not serve as liberal social policy guinea pigs. The sexual environment the President is seeking to impose upon the young men and women who serve this country is the antithesis of the successful warfighting culture and as such should be rejected.

"Tonight the President also proposed expanding the Child and Dependent Care Tax Credit which would only benefit families if: both parents work, a single parent works, or one parent works and the other is in school. In other words, it completely discriminates against families with stay-at-home parents, who wouldn't see a penny from this plan. The President's plan further drives a wedge between parents and children as it would encourage parents to place their children in government approved day-care rather than encouraging one parent to stay home and personally care for their off-spring.

"This new socialized child care proposal comes on the heels of a proposed major marriage tax penalty included within the President's health care bills. A tax penalty on married couples only serves to discourage couples from marrying while encouraging societal instability through cohabitation and divorce.

"If this administration cared about getting families back on their feet, it would double or triple the across-the-board child tax credit and let parents decide how to spend the money. For many, it may be all the incentive they need to stay home and care for their kids.

"We applaud Governor Bob McDonnell for calling for a land in which 'innocent human life is protected.' The governor's call to protect human life is clearly in line with the American people who overwhelmingly oppose the President's health care plan which would use our hard earned dollars to pay for abortion coverage. FRC will continue to work to ensure taxpayers are not forced to be part of the President's pro-abortion agenda.

"Family Research Council pledges to work with our allies and the thousands of families we represent to oppose the President's plans to socialize child care, sexualize the military, and penalize married couples through a government takeover of the U.S. health care system."

Media Malpractice-March for Life

At the 2010 March for Life the media set new standards for journalistic fraud. In its lead photo, CNN showed five pro-abortion picketers, all that could be found, and ignored the 300,000 pro-life marchers. CNN's Rick Sanchez wondered out loud which group dominated. Newsweek claimed that most participants were in their 60's when, in fact, most were under 25. This video sets the record straight.

New Stanek WND column, "Bill protects preborns after 20 weeks"

WND%20logo.gif

On Dec. 3, 2009, NE late-term abortionist LeRoy Carhart told the New York Times that after the death of colleague George Tiller in May he began committing abortions "'past 24 weeks."...

The NYT added:

late-term abortion, pro-life, carhart, Abortion Pain Prevention Act.png

Dr. Carhart's fee schedule lists prices for abortions up to 22 weeks and 6 days (at that point, $2,100 in cash or $2,163 on a credit card), but notes that abortions after 23 weeks are available "after consultation with our doctor," and that abortions after the 27th week may take four days.

The problem is NE has a law banning abortions past the age of viability. Although unspecified, currently a baby is considered viable at 23 weeks.

This wasn't the first time Carhart publicly flouted the fact he allows himself a wide swath of wiggle room on whether a baby he is aborting is viable or not.

Hence the introduction of the Abortion Pain Prevention Act by NE Speaker of the Legislature Mike Flood on Jan. 21.

The Abortion Pain Prevention Act takes us into a whole new world of abortion law, banning all abortions after 20 gestational weeks on the basis of a preborn baby's capacity to feel the pain of it all. At this age a baby anatomically "has the physical structures necessary to experience pain," states the bill, based on scientific evidence....

Watch this legislation. It has the potential to be as explosive in the 2000s as the Partial Birth Abortion Ban was in the 1990s, and just as damaging to the abortion movement. Meanwhile, if passed, it would save exponentially more lives.

And once again Carhart, the ultimate loser of the PBA Ban battles before the Supreme Court, is in the middle of it....

March for Life 2010

Participants in the 2010 March for Life were consistent in their reports of the crowd enthusiasm and size.

HUGE. That is all I can say. The largest in recent memory. Some informal estimates at 300,000. In my humble opinion, there were more like 500,000 people attending the March. Pro-lifers swarmed Washington D.C. on a cool but rain free day. The sun even came out at the end of the day while the women from Silent No More gave their testimony. - Jakubczyk on Life

Blogger Matt Cassens describes his first experience at the March:

march_for_life_2010.JPGToday, in spite of the weather, I drove to Washington D.C. to partake in the 37th annual March For Life and had an experience like no other. I saw an enthusiastic crowd in very large numbers totally devoted to the life cause, consisting largely of young, fresh faced people chanting, praying, laughing, and enjoying life to its fullest as they marched for their firmly held beliefs.

They came from Virginia, North Carolina, Pennsylvania, New Jersey, New York, Illinois, Indiana, Ohio, and even from as far west as Kansas City, MO. They all came for the same reason, to convince our lawmakers and Supreme Court justices to overturn Roe vs. Wade, and make abortion a thing of the past. There were priests, bishops, lots of students, women who have had abortions and regretted them, Knights of Columbus, bloggers like myself, politicians, teachers, nurses, several nuns, and people from all walks of life, all who agree that abortion will go down in history along side American slavery and lynching of African-Americans as stains and blights on our nation's history.

Scan down Matt's post for great photos including the one above.  Excellent photos from Generations for Life here.  Jill Stanek notes great March videos on YouTube:

As we've come to expect, the MSM not only failed to provide an accurate representation of the March for Life but emphasized the 60 strong counter protest (JillStanek).

Jack Cashwell comments on the "media malpractices" through this article at the American Thinker:

In covering the 2010 March, the media have morphed from laziness and incompetence to outright fraud. Someone should be fired.

Let us start with Krista Gesaman writing for Newsweek. Her headline sums up the utter absurdity of her thesis, "Missing at the 'Roe v. Wade' Anniversary Demonstrations? Young Women." Twisting the words of a police organizer, she informs the reader that "a majority of the participants are in their 60s."

This leads Gesaman to conclude, "So this raises the question: where are the young, vibrant women supporting their pro-life or pro-choice positions? Likely, they're at home." All Gesaman had to do was stick her head out the window to know otherwise.

Having been in Washington for the March this year, I can assure Gesaman that the demographics matched last year's, Young women were everywhere and unavoidable. They filled every hotel lobby in town. Many of them had spent countless hours on busses to get there.

My experience is consistent with his observations. How someone can get the demographics so absurdly wrong and then belittle the protest of child killing is beyond me.

However, it's not hard to get the facts.  Check out Cspan Coverage and citizen journalists at YouTube and through the posts linked to in our right column.

Massachusetts Voters Reject Obamacare

In a stunning upset, Republican Scott Brown defeated Democrat Martha Coakley in Massachsetts' Senate Race (53-47%). YES!  Earlier in the race, Coakley led by over fifteen points and was expected to be a shoe-in. In fact, exit polls were not even planned for what was considered a sure Democratic victory.

Having spoiled the Democratic super majority needed to pass Obamacare, Brown now fills the seat vacated by the passing of Sen. Edward Kennedy.

There are more long faces at MSNBC than at an aardvark convention - Michelle Malkin

We wish Brown's victory had been about Obamacare's abortion provision. It wasn't. Massachusetts chose Brown to protect their pocket books, lower taxes and protect their families from the Senate's healthcare debacle.  Fiscal responsibility is to be desired and a cornerstone of Brown's campaign was his promise to vote against Obama's healthcare plan.

Update:  Democrats are scrambling to blame someone for conducting a poor campaign or not lending enough support.  Perhaps it's inconceivable that it could be their bankrupt policies and heavy handed tactics that voters have rejected.

John Jakubczyk, ever the optimist, offers the following commentary:

Coakley is calling [Brown] "anti-choice." Well he may no be there yet, but if the left pushes hard enough, they may push him right into a pro-life position.

We like true converts. Here is an opportunity to win one and establish lines of real communication.

The results of this election could be the beignning of something big.

Thanks John.

Descriptive Words we're seeing:  epic upset, stunning embarrassment, dramatic upset, ...

Election Results: Coakley vs Brown - Update: Brown Wins!

Final Update (9:25 EST): Brown has won the election (see results below).  (Boston Globe website crashed - as has HotAir and Michelle Malkin)

Massachusetts polls are closed and results are coming in fast and furious. At 8:40 EST with only 17% of districts reporting Brown leads Coakley 52% to 47%.

One blogger notes: On CNN, live shots of the respective campaign headquarters showed Brown's HQ in a state of euphoria -- and Coakley's HQ dead as a funeral.

Meanwhile, the Boston Globe (accidentally) called the race for Coakley (oops).

If Brown does indeed win, despite his opposition to Obamacare and emphasis on fiscal responsibility, Republicans are going to have to get use to the idea that he is neither a conservative or pro-life.

Updates

(8:47 EST): Brown maintains same lead with 36% of precincts reporting.

(8:53 EST): Brown maintains 52% to 47% lead with 45% of precincts reporting.

(8:57 EST): Brown maintains 52% to 47% lead with 52% of precincts reporting.

(8:59 EST): Brown's lead has grown - 53% to 46% with 57% of precincts reporting but still waiting for the city of Boston (only 88 of 254 have reported in).

(9:02 EST): Brown's lead remains at 53% to 46% with 60% of precincts reporting. Note that in Boston Coakley leads 62-37% with only 37% of precincts reporting.

(9:05 EST): Brown's lead remains at 53% to 46% with 63% of precincts reporting. Note that in Boston Coakley leads 63-36% with 44% of precincts reporting. So, the question is whether or not the City of Boston is enough to close the gap. With Brown's overall lead at over 85,000 votes I'm guessing that the answer is "no". Even if 50% of the city voted and Coakley led by 20% this would only give her an added 60,000 votes.

(9:11 EST): Brown's lead remains at 53% to 46% with 66% of precincts reporting. Note that in Boston Coakley's lead has increased to 65-34% with 52% of precincts reporting.

(9:14 EST): Brown's lead remains at 53% to 46% with 69% of precincts reporting. Boston is increasingly favoring Coakley 66-33% with 53% of precincts reporting.

(9:17 EST): Brown appears to have a decisive lead: 53% to 46% with 71% of precincts reporting. Boston favors Coakley 66-33% with 58% of precincts reporting.

Coakley just conceded by telephone to Brown - what an incredible upset!

Brown and Coakley

A few descriptive terms:

Freefall
- A new InsiderAdvantage poll conducted exclusively for POLITICO shows Republican Scott Brown holding a 9-point advantage over Martha Coakley a day before Massachusetts voters trek to the ballot box to choose a new senator. (Politico)

A Perfect Storm - But while Brown doggedly ran like he could win, he benefited greatly from Coakley running like she already had. And he has benefited tremendously from the same storm, blowing at his back, that is now blowing in her face. It's a perfect storm. Coakley might yet weather it. But it is starting to look a lot like a torrential rain on her parade. (Jules Crittenden)

A Coup - If Brown pulls off this coup, expect a total "mainstream" media meltdown Tuesday night as results come in. I wouldn't be surprised to see multiple and widespread pronouncements like we've already seen from David Schuster that the voters have lost their minds, ... (Dakota Voice)

Panic - A sense of panic has begun to seep into Democrat party leaders' marathon of negotiations over the health bill, according to insider reports. The source of the panic appears to be the possibility that the Democrats may lose their filibuster-proof majority in Massachusetts' special U.S. Senate election Tuesday (LifeSiteNews).

Pessimism - I have predicted that Coakley will win by 2 tomorrow. I know. I know. I'm a pessimist. But I just don't believe all the glowing polls. (Melissa Clouthier)

Confidence - A slate of new polls and the statewide pro-life group in Massachusetts are confident that Senate candidate Scott Brown will defeat pro-abortion activist Martha Coakley in the race for the seat vacated by the late pro-abortion Sen. Ted Kennedy. (LifeNews)

Unity - [Brown is] uniting Tea Party activists, rank-and-file union members, GOP party faithful, and independents (Michelle Malkin)

Improved - [Brown] will be better than Coakley who is an Emily's list and Planned Parenthood affectionado. She responded in an interview asking about conscience rights of Catholic health care workers that "You can have religious freedom but you probably shouldn't work in the emergency room." So in addition to being an elitist, she has an anti-Catholic prejudice. (Jakubczyk on Life)

Media Bias - Audible Gasps on MSNBC Set Over MA Bellweather Polls (bias? What bias?) (Hyscience)

The Future - "I'm voting for Scott to save this country for my grandkids..." (Boston Globe)

10,000 Protest Abortion Super Center

Tony Perkins Warns Houston "Abortion Super Center" Will Be Prototype Under President Obama's Health Care Plan

Houston, Texas - An estimated 10,000 people converged on Houston, Texas today for a pro-life prayer rally and march across from the nation's largest abortion facility. Tony Perkins, president of the Family Research Council, joined Lou Engle of The Call to Conscience in Houston today to rally pro-life Americans from across the country. Several Hispanic and African-American Christian leaders also joined the rally in front of the massive six-story Planned Parenthood abortion facility.

"Planned Parenthood's Houston abortion super center will most likely become the prototype for so-called 'preventative care' centers under President Obama's health care plan," said Perkins.

Silent No More Set to March

regret.jpg

Thousands of Washingtonians are expected to march Tuesday January 19 at the annual March for Life in Olympia; many of them holding signs proclaiming the message, "Women DO Regret Abortion", and "Men DO Regret Lost Fatherhood".

Approximately 25,000 women have an abortion every year in Washington. The public will be marching in solidarity with the women of the Silent No More Awareness Campaign who are speaking out about what goes on behind the closed doors of the state's abortion centers. Women who have had abortions in Washington state will be on hand at this year's March for Life to tell what they saw and experienced.

While women leave their dead children behind in the abortion clinic, they often take with them infections, damaged reproductive organs, and a lifetime of depression and suicidal thoughts. Debbie Schneider, who had an abortion in Washington remarked, "I know the truth of what happens to women during an abortion. It's not what the public has been led to believe."

For too long the abortion industry and the abortionists have been speaking for women. "All Washingtonians owe a debt of gratitude to these brave women who are speaking out and telling the truth," said Dan Kennedy, CEO of Human Life of Washington.

Shocker: Intrade Has Brown at 68

brown_vs_coakley.jpg

At of the time of this posting, Intrade has Scott Brown at 68 (meaning there is a 68% chance Brown wins, with Marth Coakley tanking rapidly and now at 45.

Interestingly, the Intrade predction market has forecast elections with eerie accuracy over the last few years.

Update: Coakley is collapsing on the Intrade board - down to 30 and dropping. As Dan Riehl suggests, either someone's playing games, or Obama didn't get 'er done for Martha Coakley.

Update2 (plb):  Yes, it is quite unfortunate Brown is not pro-life ... here's our take.

Source:  Hyscience

The Massachusetts Senate Race

By now everyone has been reading about the special election to fill the U.S. senate seat recently vacated following the death of Edward Kennedy. The Democrats filled the position with a lackey named Kirk who pledged not to run in the special election. This was suppose to be Martha Coakley's seat. After all she was the state attorney general and it was her turn. The Democrats own the seat and we all want to honor old Teddy, right?

Well, someone forgot to tell Scott Brown the Republican nominee. At first he was going to be the typical sacrificial lamb offered by by a lack luster remnant of what republican politics in the Northeast had once been. Then again someone also forgot to tell the people of Massachusetts - still think that their vote ought to mean something.

Now let us be clear. Brown is not pro-life and he has a lot to learn on the issue. But he will be better than Coakley who is an Emily's list and Planned Parenthood affectionado. Sher responded in an interview asking about conscience rights of Catholic health care workers that "You can have religious freedom but you probably shouldn't work in the emergency room." So in addition to being an elitist, she has an anti-Catholic prejudice.

Brown opposes ObamaCare, pledges to be the 41st vote against it, does not want tax dollars going for abortion and supports parental notification laws. Coakley is calling him "anti-choice." Well he may no be there yet, but if the left pushes hard enough, they may push him right into a pro-life position.

We like true converts. Here is an opportunity to win one and establish lines of real communication.

The results of this election could be the beignning of something big.

Pro-Life Protest Throws Obama for a Loop During Coakley Event

Pro-life "hecklers" interrupted President Barack Obama during an appearance aimed at supporting the failing campaign of Democratic Senate candidate Martha Coakley. As noted by Ed Morrissey, the president faltered significantly more than one would have expected from a seasoned politician and commander-in-chief. MSNBC showed security guards removing the protesters who held signs reading "Jesus Loves All Babies".

New Stanek WND column, "Top scientist finally admits abortion-breast cancer link"

WND%20logo.gif

In February 2003, Dr. Louise Brinton (pictured lower right), the National Cancer Institute's chief of the Environmental Epidemiology Branch, Division of Cancer Epidemiology and Genetics, served as chairperson at an NCI workshop in Bethesda, MD, to assess whether abortion was implicated as a breast cancer risk.

In the opinion of "over 100 of the world's leading experts," said the subsequent NCI report, including Dr. Brinton, the answer was no....

dr. louise brinton, nci, abortion, breast cancer.jpg

At the time, 29 out of 38 studies conducted worldwide over 40 years showed an increased ABC risk, but NCI workshop "experts" nevertheless concluded it was "well established" that "induced abortion is not associated with an increase in breast cancer risk."...

Life went on, except for post-abortive women inflicted with breast cancer anyway.

But 6 years later something happened. Dr. Brinton either flipped her lid, flipped ideologies, restudied the evidence and decided to recant, or couldn't sleep at night - and she began righting her wrong....

New WND column, "Under Obama, STD super strains all the rage"

WND%20logo.gif

Recalling the Rev. Jeremiah Wright once famously accused the "government ... [of] inventing the HIV virus as a means of genocide against people of color," it is ironic that his protégé, Barack Obama, along with other carriers of the deadly diseases of political correctness and liberal ideology, would actually be the ones guilty of spreading not only HIV but other plagues.

Three significant events of the past 2 weeks may at first appear unrelated but aren't:

  • Dec. 27, 2009: While researching the worldwide epidemic of drug-resistant diseases, the Associated Press uncovers and reports what has been "dreaded and expected for years - this country's 1st case of a contagious, aggressive, especially drug-resistant form of tuberculosis."

oswaldo juarez, tuberculosis, abortion, sexually transmitted disease, sexaully transmitted infection, STD, STI, HIV, AIDS.JPEGPreviously unknown to the public, the AP discloses that now 21-year-old Peruvian exchange student Oswaldo Juarez, pictured right, began treatment in 2007 at the last remaining TB sanitarium in the United States, located in South FL, for 1 of only 5 cases of XXDR TB known worldwide. Symptoms abated, and Juarez was released back into the U.S. in July 2009.
  • Jan. 1, 2010: The state of IL becomes the 21st state, along with the city of Baltimore, to enact "expedited partner therapy" legislation. Such laws allow patients being treated for either chlamydia or gonorrhea, both sexually transmitted diseases, to receive as many blank prescriptions or one-time doses of antibiotics as the number of sexual partners they say they have had within the previous 60 days. Minors as young as 12 years old can obtain scripts or meds without parental knowledge.
  • Jan. 4, 2010: The Centers for Disease Control enacts an order by President Obama, lifting the 22-year ban against HIV positive foreigners entering the U.S. Pre-admissive HIV testing will no longer be required either, so infected immigrants will be untrackable.
  • To begin connecting the dots, Homeland Security Today on Dec. 29 reported on the scale of diseases resistant to drug treatment...

New Zealand based ethicist and theologian, Dr Matthew Flannagan, published an excellent overview highlighting the flaws in the pro-choice position in Investigate Magazine. Dr Flannagan normally publishes on feticide in academic journals but this piece, Contra Mundum: Confessions of an Anti-Choice Fanatic, is accessible to all and is a must read.

If current media is to be believed opposition to legal abortion comes from misogynist fundamentalist fanatics who want to impose their religious mores onto others. This string of pejorative terms is amusing; however, it does not actually address the more crucial question of whether laws against feticide (the killing of a fetus) are just....

Truth Truck drivers needed now in four states

    January 5, 2010/Wichita, KS/Operation Rescue --

Operation Rescue is seeking qualified drivers for immediate campaigns in Mississippi, Ohio, Pennsylvania, and Oklahoma.

We are looking for responsible individuals with excellent driving records who can drive large paneled trucks featuring graphic images of aborted babies in any of these four states. All expenses will be paid.

The campaign will be conducted in conjunction with the Center for Bioethical Reform and will focus on selected "Blue Dog" Democratic members of the House of Representatives in their home districts urging them not to compromise on taxpayer funded abortion in the looming health care bill. The billboard-sized messages on the trucks will encourage residents to contact their Congressmen with the message, "Abortion is not healthcare," and urge them to oppose legislation that contains even indirect funding for abortions.

For more information, please contact Tara at (316) 683-6790, ext. 151 weekdays after 10 AM Central time.

Truth Truck goes To FL for Pro Bowl, Super Bowl

    January 4, 2010/Miami, FL/Operation Rescue --

Operation Rescue's Truth Truck will be in Miami, Florida, to expose the truth about abortion and President Obama's radical abortion support to crowds of people gathering for the Pro Bowl and the Super Bowl professional football games.

"Wherever large groups of people gather, it is our custom to have a Truth Truck present to educate people about the horrific nature of abortion," said Operation Rescue President Troy Newman. "The matter of abortion must first be unavoidable if it is ever to become unthinkable."

For the first time, the Pro Bowl will be played one week prior to the Super Bowl at the same venue. The Pro Bowl is scheduled for January 31 at Dolphin Stadium in Miami. The Super Bowl will be played there a week later on February 6.

"The unique scheduling of these events this year makes it a double opportunity for exposure of our message," said Newman. "Also this year, in addition to photos of the victims of abortion, our Truth Truck will feature the web site www.AbortionIsAnObamanation.com, where viewers can go to see documentation of President Obama's radical abortion agenda, which he is attempting to force on the American people through very unpopular health care bill now pending in Congress."

Operation Rescue operates a fleet of ten Truth Trucks, which are large panel vehicles bearing graphic photographs of actual aborted babies that that show the truth about abortion from coast to coast.

"During 2010, we expect that the Truth Truck fleet will become an important ministry to educate people and remind them of the plight of the pre-born during important events and political campaigns that will have an impact on the matter of abortion," said Newman. "We must make sure the voices of innocent babies are heard."

Any responsible drivers interested in participating in the Truth Truck Campaigns of 2010, please contact Operation Rescue at (316) 683-6790, ext. 111.

A Page From A ProLife Activist - Julie and Julia and Gingi

So! I watched Julie and Julia last night with my fiancé and my lovely soon-to-be mother-in-law last night.

The movie is based on two true stories. Julia Childs is the famous chef and cookbook author from the 1950's. And Julie Powell is a young blogger who adored the famous chef and tried to cook through Julia's recipes in a year.

I both love and hate movies that remind me of me.

Julie is a writer. I like to fancy myself as one.

Julie writes about what she is passionate about. I like to write about what I am passionate about.
