Attacks on Stupak Amendment Continue

Abortion supporters spent an inordinate amount of time claiming public funding of abortion wasn't included in any of the healthcare bills before House pro-lifers added an amendment specifying there would be no public funding in its healthcare bill.

Now pro-aborts claim that not forcing taxpayers to fund abortions is equivalent to a ban. I'm not going to post their despicable ad but you can see it here.  And, their employing the illegal back-alley abortion myth to motivate their <strike>lie</strike> cause.

Meanwhile, President Obama is following hook, line and sinker by vowing to remove the "controversial" pro-life Amendment:

White House Senior Adviser David Axelrod suggested Sunday that President Obama will intervene to make sure a controversial amendment restricting federal funding for abortion coverage is stripped from final health care reform legislation.

In doing so, the president would be heeding the call of abortion rights supporters like Planned Parenthood that have called the White House their "strongest weapon" in keeping such restrictions out of the bill.

FRCBlog has more.

Update:

While the Whitehouse claims the Stupak Amendment "changes the status quo', the WallStreet Journal rightly concludes, "Still, under the House bill, these women wouldn't be any worse off financially than they are now, since they are already paying for abortion out-of-pocket."

PLEASE READ!!! This doesn't actually have anything to do with the article, but I'd like to ask you pro-lifers a question. What will you do with the born babies? I've read a lot about it, and there wouldn't be enough adoptive parents for all the unwanted kids. I feel like there is a lot of emphasis from you all on letting the baby be carried to term, but it seems like people's concern for the child's well being stops (for the most part) after it's born. Not all teens will make good or even decent parents, and most of them do not WANT to be parents. I know a lot of people on this site are religious and believe in abstinence and no birth control, but I don't think that those are realistic expectations for people who do not share these values. Just wanted to hear your opinions.

Dear Anon, you raise a very important question and aspect of being pro-life. You state that there wouldn't be enough adoptive parents for all the unwanted kids. Could you please give me some links and statistics to back this up? I know that in Australia, (where I live :D) the waiting list is up to 10-15 YEARS long. Imagine waiting that long for an 'unwanted' child! If there was any chance the child was unwanted before going onto an adoption program, there is no way they would be unwanted after 15 years of waiting.

Ok, you think our concern for the child stops as soon they are born. Some would argue that the pro-choice people's concern stops straight after the woman has had an abortion and the money is in the bank. Only the pro-lifers acknowledge post-abortion depression and all the other complications that follow an abortion, sometime arising 80 years down the track.
However, my main point would be if you ask any seasoned pro-lifer (or even a newbie!) they will be able to tell you their stories of pro-life groups supporting the woman financially and emotionally as the woman has her baby, and as the child grows up. You probably don't hear about this much because, so to speak, the battle is over. The child is alive, and all that needs to be done is backing up the mum, which in itself is a mammoth task. There are even pro-life groups specifically for this purpose, and most sidewalk pray-ers and counselors have their contacts ready to refer women to for help.

"Not all teens will make good or even decent parents, and most of them do not WANT to be parents." True! For those who won't make good or decent parents- a) you'd be surprised. Some of the most unlikely girls have turned out to be the most beautiful mums. b) Adoption! And if the Americans don't want their children, the Australians would LOVE to help.
For those who don't want to be parents- if the girl is pregnant, they are parents already. They just can't see their baby yet. And maybe they should have thought about the responsibilities having sex would incur before they had it. Is that too much to ask? Not using contraceptives and using abstinence make a lot of sense even if you aren't religious. Contraceptives are throwing every natural about a woman totally out of sync. When I was a kid, the basic principals were explained to me, and I wondered about the sanity of women using them. The results are showing- we are the most infertile generation ever. And this is not by own own choosing! So, if you don't want children, abstinence makes even more sense! And please, we're not talking about abstinence FOREVER!! Is asking people, teenagers and those old enough to know better, to take responsibility for their actions and plan accordingly too much to expect?

Finally, I read a post somewhere where a lady said something like this- If the pro-choice people loose their side, what happens? a woman's rights are ignored. If the pro-life people loose their side, what happens? A child is killed.

Basic principle. Abortion. Kills. Babies.

Thanks for explaining that, I appreciate it. I still think that the right to abortion should be there... but I think it would be better if people chose to allow the baby to live. I'm going to google the parent support groups. I think I might be interested in helping them out, if possible.
