On April 4, 2009 at 9:00am there will be a Rally and Press Conference in front of the City Hall in Oakland, California. On this 41st anniversary of the slaying of civil rights leader Dr. Martin Luther King Jr., Pro-Life and Christian leaders will stand in support and unity for another civil rights leader, Pastor Walter Hoye, who was arrested for standing in front of an abortion facility with a sign reading, "Jesus loves you and your baby, let us help you."

Click here to view and hear our video and audio interviews with Pastor Hoye and his wife Lori

"Pastor Walter Hoye embodies Martin Luther King Jr.'s legacy, standing up for the least of these, the vulnerable mothers and their babies." said Dr. Alveda King, niece of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr.

Pro-Life Unity President, Peter Shinn, Pastor Dion Evans, point man for the unjustly jailed Pastor Hoye, and Mrs. Lori Hoye, wife of Pastor Hoye will be speaking at the Press Conference along with other Pro-Life and Christian leaders.

Peter Shinn stated "Pastor Hoye stands on the front-lines of the battle for the unborn, risking his freedom, challenging pastors, preachers and church leaders everywhere to get involved in the Pro-Life movement and to oppose abortion. As Pastor Hoye preaches: " Like Ezekiel if we fail to warn the people of impending danger their blood will be on our hands"."

Here is an update to a previous post on the Dickey-Wicker Amendment and why this piece of legislation is so very important. The Dickey-Wicker Amendment is the last impediment to a government funded Brave New World where human life is created, manipulated and destroyed in the name of science.

The Dickey Amendment, which prohibits federal tax dollars to be used to fund research that creates or destroys human embryos has again been passed by Congress and signed into law by President Obama. This is good news.

But, I believe this was a political move and not an ethical one. This year, President Obama lifted the funding restriction for embryonic stem cell research put into place by President Bush. In Obama's speech, he stated he was against human reproductive cloning, leaving the door open for support of therapeutic cloning which would create and destroy human embryos for research purposes. The federal funding of therapeutic cloning is direct conflict with the Dickey Amendment. So I believe that the Dickey-Wicker Amendment is already in political gun sites, possibly for 2010.

This means that we cannot let up. We need to continually remind our representatives in government that we want them to uphold the Dickey-Wicker Amendment. The pressure to get rid of Dickey is already formidable. The New York Times has called for the end of the Dickey-Wicker Amendment:

Other important embryonic research is still being hobbled by the so-called Dickey-Wicker amendment. The amendment, which is regularly attached to appropriations bills for the Department of Health and Human Services, prohibits the use of federal funds to support scientific work that involves the destruction of human embryos (as happens when stem cells are extracted) or the creation of embryos for research purposes.

Until that changes, scientists who want to create embryos -- and extract stem cells -- matched to patients with specific diseases will have to rely on private or state support. Such research is one promising way to learn how the diseases develop and devise the best treatments. Congress should follow Mr. Obama's lead and lift this prohibition so such important work can benefit from an infusion of federal dollars.

Ultra-conservative Christian talk-radio hosts are taking a new approach to get their message out -- ambushing right-wing pundit Ann Coulter for supporting 2008 GOP presidential candidate Mitt Romney. Absolutist anti-abortion activists accuse Romney of being "willing to sacrifice children for your vote."

The Denver-based American Right to Life Action (RTL) leads the charge against Coulter with a YouTube video that shows excerpts of Coulter's on-air radio freak-outs and calls on the acid-tongued author to apologize and retract her support for Romney.

Organized for Life is growing and momentum is building. The fruits of pro-life door knocking are already being seen and, as the weather improves and the interest increases, the impact will be profound.

I write this after my third week in a row canvassing. I confess that I was nervous each time, but was always reminded after the first person answered the door that people just do not know what is going on in this country with abortion and they're receptive to the message. Pro-life, "pro-choice," or unsure, people do not know the war of life that is going on in this country and they are ready to hear it. The pro-life movement is something that was clearly so distant for everyone I spoke with and it was time somebody brought it to them.

Not long ago, my friend and I grabbed some pamphlets and walked to a nearby neighborhood where we knew nobody, braced ourselves for the worst, and hoped for the best. Our goals were to first to educate and second to mobilize. The Freedom of Choice Act (FOCA) is a pressing issue that removes any and all restrictions on abortion. Even people who consider themselves fervently pro-choice start to look a bit queasy upon hearing that viable babies can be aborted and that they have to pay for abortions. Even people who consider themselves pro-choice get pretty uncomfortable when they learn that conscience rights that protect the choices of objecting medical personnel and facilities are about to disappear if people don't act. We wanted to share this information with the public (educate!) and then ask them to sign petitions protesting the passage of FOCA and the rescission of conscience rights (mobilize!).

We were successful in our efforts and it felt amazing. The thing about knocking on doors is that it gets significantly easier each time and the person doing it gets a lot better at it. Just like anything, practice makes perfect. My first time out, I had a 33% signature rate. That's certainly not bad, but I so desperately wanted to do better. The lives of unborn babies hung in the balance so I figured I needed to get a least a passing grade. This last outing, we knocked on 40 doors, spoke to at least 20 people, and got signatures from most of the people we talked to. Not bad for a day's work!

The most amazing part of canvassing was watching people change right in front of us. We knocked on the door of a man who was just visiting his family and was sort of hostile when we approached. We were friendly and tried to talk, but he wasn't quite ready to listen. We kindly understood, but we made sure he took literature from us before we left. We walked away and happened to turn back as we approached the next door. The man we had just spoken with was sitting on his stoop, reading pro-life literature, and nodding along with the points made in it. In that moment, I remembered why I had gone out and knocked on doors that day. We watched a mind change.

We kept going on and knocked on the door of a new mother holding the most beautiful little girl in her arms. We explained what FOCA is and we watched someone who admitted she was pro-choice happily sign a petition when she looked at her little girl and thought about losing her parental rights if her daughter experienced a crisis pregnancy one day. We brought LIFE to her in a way that made it real and it affected her.

Knowing that differences can be made, it's incredible. Take the plunge, rip off the band-aid, and walk around your neighborhood too so that the message of life can be shared throughout the country and the world. Send a quick email to mail@organizedforlife.us to get involved and make a difference. I'm glad I did and I know the approximately 4,000 children that die everyday in this country alone from legal abortion are glad too. After all, don't they deserve to have us fight for their lives?

With all the other horrendous news of Obama's deconstruction of our country, this may seem
like a small thing, but obviously it's important to the pro-death forces in our country as they are
soliciting money from their supporters to block a woman's right to choose - a license plate!!

The pro-life forces have jumped through all the necessary governmental hoops to make this fund-
raising plate (for pregnancy resource centers) possible - but evidently pro-aborts are worried that
a few babies may slip through the cracks of conscience and actually be brought into the world
alive.

It just takes a few seconds to click below to nudge Governor Kaine in the right direction:

Dear Barbara,

Legislation is now before the Governor that promotes REAL choice

by funding Pregnancy Resource Centers through the voluntary sale of

"Choose Life" license plates. He could sign or veto the bill any day.

Meanwhile, NARAL Pro-Choice America is mobilizing its nationwide

network to continue to once again deprive women of . . . choice! They are

seeking $50,000 in donations by March 31 in order to pressure Gov. Kaine

into vetoing $15 from each $40 plate sale to fund this critical option for mothers.

Tell Gov. Kaine that women deserve more "choices" than only those that

NARAL thinks they should have. Contact Gov. Kaine's office today. Urge him

to support "Choose Life" license plates in VA!

A Florida woman named Tonuya Rainey has been jailed for illegally aborting her daughter's 24 week old baby boy and throwing him in the trash, and is now facing charges of "illegally terminating a pregnancy, child abuse and improper disposal of human remains." Her daughter said that the baby was "breathing and moving his arms after birth," a piece of information that horrified the presiding judge, causing him to increase her bail by over $170,000 for what that he called a crime "tantamount to murder."

Following is the story:

According to police and prosecutors, [Rainey] gave her 16-year-old daughter a pregnancy-ending combination of drugs, then disposed of the fetus in a plastic garbage bag, police and prosecutors said.

But, according to a search warrant that's part of the case, Rainey's daughter told police her baby, a boy, was breathing and moving his arms after birth. Though Rainey hasn't been charged with murder, that detail made the Broward County Click here for restaurant inspection reports Court judge balk at allowing Rainey's release after she posted $14,000 bond.

"I believe that what has allegedly occurred is tantamount to murder," Hurley said at a bond hearing Friday...

When [Rainey's daughter] told her mother she was about 24 weeks pregnant, her mother gave her "round, white pills" to terminate the pregnancy, the police document said.

According to Miramar police spokeswoman Yessenia Diaz, those pills were a two-drug combination, once known as RU-486, that is now sold under prescription to induce abortions at home. Rainey did not get the pills from her workplace, Diaz said.

The teen told police she experienced severe cramps, then at 3 a.m. on March 6 gave birth while seated on a toilet. She said she lay the infant on a bed and saw him breathing and his arms moving. She did not hear the baby cry. Rainey and a friend then picked up the newborn and took him to the bathroom, according to the search warrant application.

In 1973, Feminists promoted abortion as their route to liberation; a way to elevate their status in society and secure for them what they believed was rightfully theirs.

Due to their efforts, the evil of abortion was unleashed. Once an evil is unleashed, no person, group of persons nor government can limit or control it.

In the Guangdong province of China today, 144 births out of every 200 are male. The reason for the disparity of the normal 50% ratio is that this province (and government) specifically targets female babies as undesirable and aborts them. So 44 female babies are aborted out of every 100 female conceptions, or 44%. Chilling, isn't it?

So the Feminists in this world thought abortion would free them as second class citizens, but now it targets them as a second class citizens ten fold.

I thought about this scenario as President Obama lifted all bans on embryonic stem cell testing this week.

Those disabled advocates (who struggle with horrible diseases and face the difficulty of lost mobility) who promote embryonic stem cell research as their way out are in danger of making the same mistake that the Feminists did 30 years ago.

By targeting the weakest and most defenseless members of society (embryos) -- defining them as less than human with no rights -- these advocates are advancing a mindset that there are some members of humanity that are less than human and can be disposed of. They are in effect stating that a class of humanity can be designated and labeled not human by just a popular opinion, or even as little as just one man's signature.

Their efforts will be unleashing an active evil that will eventually turn on them ten fold and seek out the disabled, elderly and infirmed defining them as less than human with no legal rights nor deserving of any protection. They, themselves, will become the hunted.

John Donne said, "No man is an island," and he was right. We are all interconnected. Our front line of protecting the humanity and dignity of every member of the human race, including our own, has always started and ended with how we as a society defend the most defenseless in our presence. Today, the unborn are the most defenseless in our society considering they have absolutely no legal protection and can not speak for themselves. They are clearly the Front Line of Our Humanity.

It was one of those "the rest of the story" moments when a plane crashed in Montana on Sunday. The plane crashed in a cemetery owned by the Catholic Holy Cross Cemetery and all on board were killed. There was no apparent reason for the crash, the pilot was a former military pilot who had flown over 2,000 hours and icing on the wings was ruled out because the design of that particular plane helped prevent that kind of problem.

Natural born killers

Exclusive: Andrew Longman decries British talk of harvesting organs from aborted babies

A few years ago, I wrote that fetal stem cell confiscation would lead to putting a price on babies' heads - literally - in the womb. Reaction was typical. I was accused of being irrational, a wing nut, so gauche, alarmist, etc.

Four months short of three years, it's here.

Britain, where people die on the waiting list to receive their universal access to health care, is now talking itself into the satanic practice of harvesting the organs of babies killed by abortion.

I am sure that all the people who accused me of being an irrational alarmist will now apologize and claim that I, quite rightly, warned them that destruction of embryos for stem cells would lead to the confiscation of a liver from a live baby.

Or maybe not.

More likely is that the wickedness will get worse until it meets a fist slammed into its face.

I don't know who I'm madder at, USA Today or myself.

Last week USA Today editorial writer Louise Branson e-mailed me a request to:

... write a short piece for us about the regulation of fertility clinics in the aftermath of the octuplets scandal, and praising the proposed GA legislation as the standard that should be set nationwide. The piece would need to be around 350 words. It would be an opposing view to our editorial that would warn against the kind of regulation that brings anti-abortion politics into the issue.

"Absolutely," I responded. With a pro-abortion audience in mind, I wrote a piece explaining the harm of egg harvesting to women, the vast number of human embryos killed throughout the in vitro fertilization process, and how human embryo research proponents use the "leftover" embryos excuse to push their agenda. I closed by describing common sense regulations.

I received this response:

Sorry to be a pain, but could I get you to re-do it a bit.... We were hoping to see a piece that would... say the best way to prevent another Suleman case would be to limit the number of embryos that could be implanted and also define an embryo as a person.... We would be less interested in all the medical details as our debate is on how best to regulate fertility clinics.

I was taken aback. USA Today was telling me how and what to write? I responded...

People have been sending in various questions as to what they can do, if they can write to Walter, etc. This whole process is new for most of us as well. As you can imagine, everything has to follow a strict protocol. For instance, you couldn't just mail a book directly to him, it would have to be mailed directly from the Publisher. So, as soon as we have gathered all necessary information, we will pass it along to you.

Our dear Lori, talked with Walter today.

Day One -- How is he doing? Walter is already conducting Bible Study for the other inmates! He's not wasting any time!!!

The debate over embryonic stem-cell research is at the forefront of many people's minds with President Obama's recent decision to overturn former President Bush's restrictions on its federal funding. There are some basic questions that must be asked in the course of this debate about the creation of extra embryos, and what other options exist for parents outside of destroying these embryos either by stem-cell research or by what amounts to throwing them away in the trash.

Researchers at the University of Pennsylvania conducted a study in which they sent questionnaires to 341 fertility clinics in the United States which asked questions regarding their methods and policies on embryo disposal. Here is an excerpt including a summary of their findings:

217 of 341 clinics (64 percent) responded. Nearly all (97 percent) were willing to create and cryopreserve extra embryos. Fewer, but still a majority (59 percent), were explicitly willing to avoid creating extras. When embryos did remain in excess, clinics offered various options: continual cryopreservation for a charge (96 percent) or for no charge (4 percent), donation for reproductive use by other couples (76 percent), disposal prior to (60 percent) or following (54 percent) cryopreservation, and donation for research (60percent) or embryologist training (19 percent). Qualifications varied widely among those personnel responsible for securing couples' consent for disposal and for conducting disposal itself. Some clinics performed a religious or quasi-religious disposal ceremony. Some clinics required a couple's participation in disposal; some allowed but did not require it; some others discouraged or disallowed it. (Emphasis added.)

It is worth noting that most people who argue for embryonic stem-cell research will present as a fact that since "leftover" embryos are just going to be thrown away anyway, why should we "waste" them when they could be helping to advance science and save lives? However, they neglect to mention the option made available by over 75% of fertility clinics for the adoption of these embryos by other couples who are unable to bear children, with organizations entirely devoted to this process. Furthermore, the majority of fertility clinics are willing to avoid creating more embryos than the parents would have implanted, if requested to do so by the parents, so there is not necessarily a need for any unused embryos to even exist. What are the actual feelings of the parents who have used IVF to become pregnant toward their leftover embryos? These parents are faced with the difficult choice of what to do with the extra embryos created by the fertility clinics, often due to the lack of information they were given before the IVF process began.

According to research done by Anne Lyerly, parents care deeply about what happens to their embryos after they are created, and the decisions thrust upon them are heartwrenching. "Perhaps half a million embryos lie frozen in U.S. clinics, and many are likely to continue to do so because fertility patients feel they don't have satisfactory options for dealing with embryos left over from their treatment, research out today suggests," says Lyerly. The research found that "Among patients who wanted no more children, 53 percent did not want to donate their embryos to other couples, mostly because they did not want someone else bringing up their children." (Emphasis added.)

One fertility doctor has this to say about why many parents don't wish to donate their embryos:

"It's partly reflected in the attitude of the clinics," he said, explaining that he does not even suggest that people give embryos to other couples anymore, whereas 10 years ago many patients did donate.
The excruciating decision parents have to face after undergoing IVF is often the result of the failure of clinics to broach the subject of dealing with their leftover embryos beforehand, and inform them of the options that will be available to them. According to this survey, many parents feel that they SHOULD donate their embryos to research as a way of not letting them die meaninglessly, but one mother who donated her extra embryos to research had this to say: "Ms. Betancourt said she wished there had been more discussion about the extra embryos early in the process. If she had known more, she said, she might have considered creating fewer embryos in the first place."

Lyerly's conclusion after her research (as reported by the New York Times) was this:

The message from the survey is that patients need more information, earlier in the in vitro process, to let them know that frozen embryos may result and that deciding what to do with them in the future "may be difficult in ways you don't anticipate," said Dr. Anne Drapkin Lyerly, the first author of the study and a bioethicist and associate professor of obstetrics and gynecology at Duke University...

Many couples are so desperate to have a child that when eggs are fertilized in the clinic, they want to create as many embryos as possible, to maximize their chances, Dr. Lyerly said. At that time, the notion that there could be too many embryos may seem unimaginable.

Even though it is important to see that many parents of these embryos consider them special and human, the ethics involved should be beyond individual decision. Robert George, a professor at Princeton University, has this to say about how leftover embryos should be treated:

The principle... is one that says all human beings, irrespective of age or size or stage of development or condition of dependency, possess the same human dignity, because human dignity is inherent... [They] should be treated respectfully, the way we treat the remains of human beings at later stages of development...buried or burned... This is a decision that we as a community have to make. It can't be left to individual choice to decide... It's certainly not a religious decision anymore than infanticide is a religious decision... You can find ancient cultures whose religions authorized infanticide. But that didn't make it right. And that doesn't mean that we should accept it.
In Italy, parents are not forced to make an excruciating ethical decision, because there is a law that forbids fertility clinics from creating more than 3 embryos, and all the embryos created must be implanted in the mother's uterus. A bill was recently introduced in the state of Georgia with the goal of creating these same limitations on the number of embryos that can be created by fertility clinics and implanted in the mother. Though that particular goal was not realized, the bill still "importantly defines embryos outside the uterus as human beings, so court disputes must be decided in the best interest of the embryo, not either parent fighting over the embryo."

Consider this quote from "Beginning Life," by Geraldine Lux Flanagan: "In the hours of conception every aspect of the genetic inheritance for a new individual will be determined once and for all: to be a boy or girl, with brown, or with blue eyes, fair or dark, tall or short; all the rich detail of physical attributes from head to toes..." These youngest among us have no voices to speak for them. Will we then speak on their behalf, or be silent?

MandM's Madeleine writes the following on the abortion-infanticide connection and the feminist desire to have the argument both ways:

Imagine if someone uttered the following statement "Women are irrational creatures; due to their propensity to be emotional, they are not responsible for their actions." I suspect people would think I was quoting from a popular elizabethan or medieval discussion of women and most would be write them off as sexist, misogynist and old fashioned.

Well, I suggest you check out the news because such views are apparently alive and well. To see my point let me put down two not-so-hypothetical cases.

A man abandoned his three year old daughter in an Australian train station, he clearly was distressed yet immediately there was outrage at the fact that a father would abandon his child in this manner.

(Of course, later we discover that Nai Yun Xue murdered his wife and was on the run in the US but the outrage that was poured out and expressed in the media regarding the fact of abandonment preceded this knowledge.)

Now turn to a second case, a woman abandoned her newborn in an airport rubbish bin in New Zealand. Again, we do not yet know all the details, all we know is that the woman appeared distressed.

Unlike the man who abandoned the child in a public place, where others would likely notice her, this woman dumped her baby in a rubbish bin, where people are unlikely to see her, where in fact she very possible could have died.

What's the response in the second case? Sympathy, empathy, understanding, discussion over women's hormones, speculation into culture and her family situation. We are already being prepped to swallow that the woman is not really culpable for the action, we are told heart tugging stories about how they were reunited all peppered with terms like "its all very sad" - very different from the angry, absolute, terminology aimed at Nai Yun Xue.

What's the difference? I cannot see any.

As far as I can tell in the first case the abandoner was a man and the second it was a woman and women have emotions that effect their judgment and culpability. Of course the fact that the woman would have been lawfully permitted to kill her child only a short time before abandoning it has nothing to do with the difference in treatment. [/sarcasm]

As a person who has researched the abortion issue extensively I have noted that what passes for sexism and misogyny is frequently embraced and even promoted by certain quarters to promote the ideals of those who claim to be favour of women. They will condemn statements like the above quote in popular theological writings of the past as patronising and insulting yet when there are benefits to women from being treated as full rational agents they seem quite willing to buy into this line of thought as long as it enables women to avoid criticism.

The problem is you cannot have it both ways. Accepting that women, like men, are rational moral agents means that not only do they have rights but that women can intelligibly be said to have duties. Possession of moral agency means that one's actions can be subject to moral criticism, that one can be held culpable for ones misdeeds.

If women are moral agents then we can ask if they have duties to their offspring. We can ask if a woman, even if she is suffering emotional stress, is required to provide for the children she brought into existence. Asking these questions and holding women to the same standards as men, far from being degrading to women, actually respects them as moral agents.

But of course admitting this means that feminists are forced to face another question. It means that if a fetus is a human being then a woman may have a responsibility to not kill it. One cannot, as is common in moral literature, simply dismiss any criticisms of women as sexist nor can one appeal simply to the emotional plight of women who have abortions; one needs to actually ask serious moral questions.

This is a question that is too hard for some feminists to fathom; hence, they would rather buy into the very misogynist trends they condemn in traditional theology and treat women as emotional, irrational, beings who are incapable of moral choices rather than allow people to question the political stances they have advocated in the name of women.

In an otherwise good piece condemning President Obama for his executive order authorizing taxpayer funding for embryonic stem cell research last week, columnist Charles Krauthammer got one thing wrong:

Obama's address was morally unserious in the extreme. ... Yet ... he went on to declare that he would never open the door to the "use of cloning for human reproduction."

Does he not think that a cloned human would be of extraordinary scientific interest? And yet he banned it.

On the contrary, Obama did not....

Had Obama meant he blanketly opposed cloning, he would have said he opposed cloning, period. But he added that tag, "for human reproduction."...

I know Obama was parsing. While he says he opposes birthing human clones, Obama supports growing human clones to kill for research.

I know because I was in Springfield lobbying for the opposition in 2003 when Obama as IL state senator sponsored the Stem Cell Research Act along with five other hard-left liberals, and it included authorization to experimentally clone and kill....

Continue reading my column today, "State Sen. Obama sponsored 'clone and kill' bill," at WorldNetDaily.com.

Jill Stanek had an op-ed published in USA Today on in vitro fertilization,

The sensational story of Nadya Suleman giving birth to octuplets after in vitro fertilization of multiple embryos has spotlighted the need to regulate this Wild West of women's reproductive care.

Now is the time for pro-lifers to introduce legislation in their states regulating IVF and, with it, the creation and care of embryos. A bill introduced in the Georgia Senate this month had perfect model language. It would have limited the number of embryos implanted to the same number fertilized, up to a maximum of three. That would stop the practice of freezing human embryos and would curtail "selective reductions," the abortion of some.

IVF has been relatively ignored by pro-lifers and yet represents a significant risk to the pre-born, although as Jill indicates, the movement in favor of limiting the practice and recognizing embryos as human is "gathering force".

For the last two nights I have feasted upon a visual and and intellectual banquet asking the age old questions of who we are and why we are here through the eyes of four young men who traveled to the four corners of the world seeking answers to these questions. The result is The Human Experience, a film that is part documentary film, part reality film, but one with a big heart and a lot of soul.

The musics is sweeping in its scope and yet at times sometimes very intimate. It complements the story line and joins with the visual effects to provide a truly sensuous encounter. The editing was excellent and at times you felt as if you were right there with the young men experiencing their fears as they confronted some very serious moments.

The film is currently in what is called post production pre-screening where private screenings are taking place throughout the country to generate interest in the film. The producers will then attempt to get someone to distribute the film or do it themselves. You can find out more about Grassroots Films at their website.

The movie is very tough in some sense. It asks the viewer to think about some very important questions. There are some powerful images invoked to compel this thinking. But it is something that we in this culture really need to do more often. We need to think about the higher things, the greater things, the things that ore not about us.

The movie is not preachy, yet it captures the heart and leads it to appreciate the importance of acknowledging the Creator of the universe.

The story starts out with two young men who are going on an adventure. They are joined later by two of their comrades. They are filmed as they "experience" some events which open their and the audience's eye to the beauty of the human person.

This film reflects John Paul II's writing about developing a culture that is "person centered rather than "thing" centered.

Finally - and this is most important - the film celebrates the joy of life, the sanctity of life and the uniqueness of every human person. It makes a pro-life statement without ever mentioning the word abortion. The film shows that every culture at its roots celebrates the wonder of the human person.

Look for the film to come to your community. Better yet contact them and arrange to bring The Human Experience to your city or college campus. It will be well worth the effort.

Our Family Losses

Thirty years ago US courts decided murder of the unborn is legal. Since then, we've killed some 48 million children in America amounting to the combined populations of Nevada, Utah, Colorado, Kansas, Missouri, Indiana, Nebraska, Wyoming, Montana, Idaho, North and South Dakota, and Minnesota; more than every native Indian ever known to have lived in the USA.

More than 6,400 die every day, one approximately every 20 seconds, 1 out of every 4 who would have been entering school in 2002. Nearly 1/2 of those murders are now repeat abortions following brothers and sisters who also never saw the light of day. A large percentage of these are minorities. Would we need any immigrants were we not murdering our own children at a rate as great as our immigration rate?

We have also lost: 660,000 high school 2002 graduates; up to 3 million 2002 college freshmen; 385,000 fewer elementary school teachers; 25 million unmade bicycles; untold numbers of scientists, businessmen, computer experts, blue collar workers, artists, taxpayers, musical instruments, basketballs, swimming lessons, etc.

How will we ever make up for all the missing smiles, hugs, kisses, and the love of our rejected families? How can we, as a Nation, forgive ourselves or recover from the loss of moral authority? How can God forgive such wholesale slaughter, all lost in perverted names of political correctness, privacy and false feminism?

The GOP platform has long been strongly pro-life for quite sometime, in no small part to President Reagan's strong pro-life stance. Michael Steele has indicated, however, that abortion is not a central issue, that other issues trump that one. In an interview that may lose the Huckabee Republicans, Steele made these statements:

LISA DEPAULO: How much of your pro-life stance, for you, is informed not just by your Catholic faith but by the fact that you were adopted?

MICHAEL STEELE: Oh, a lot. Absolutely. I see the power of life in that--I mean, and the power of choice! The thing to keep in mind about it... Uh, you know, I think as a country we get off on these misguided conversations that throw around terms that really misrepresent truth.

Explain that.

The choice issue cuts two ways. You can choose life, or you can choose abortion. You know, my mother chose life. So, you know, I think the power of the argument of choice boils down to stating a case for one or the other.

Are you saying you think women have the right to choose abortion?

Yeah. I mean, again, I think that's an individual choice.

You do?

Yeah. Absolutely.

Are you saying you don't want to overturn Roe v. Wade?

I think Roe v. Wade--as a legal matter, Roe v. Wade was a wrongly decided matter.

Okay, but if you overturn Roe v. Wade, how do women have the choice you just said they should have?

The states should make that choice. That's what the choice is. The individual choice rests in the states. Let them decide.

Steele then released this statement, supposedly clarifying what he meant:

"I am pro-life, always have been, always will be. I tried to present why I am pro life while recognizing that my mother had a 'choice' before deciding to put me up for adoption. I thank her every day for supporting life. The strength of the pro life movement lies in choosing life and sharing the wisdom of that choice with those who face difficult circumstances."

"The Republican Party is and will continue to be the party of life. I support our platform and its call for a Human Life Amendment. It is important that we stand up for the defenseless and that we continue to work to change the hearts and minds of our fellow countrymen so that we can welcome all children and protect them under the law."

Sounds good, except that one cannot say "let the states decide" and "I support a Human Life Amendment." They contradict each other.

The American College of Obstetrics Gynecology now suggests that all pregnancies should be evaluated for Down syndrome.

Why? Are new and improved technology applied to ensure that the child's needs are met prenatally or during delivery?

The underlying rationale driving a widening array of pregnancy-fetal testing is an unborn population who is perceived as less-than-human... leading to the holocaust of not only those inheriting trisomy 21 or other "defect". - Gregory Rutechi - click here to read the rest

Operation Rescue has released a new video about a young woman who was hospitalized on Thursday

Cartoon by Townhall's Gary Varvel (HT: Jill Stanek)

stem_cell_research.jpg
The cartoon is particularly relevant in light of Barack Obama's recent decision to force taxpayers to fund research that destroys human embryos.

1. There is widespread outrage that Nadya Suleman gave birth to eight babies that she can't financially support. But there's no outrage from the masses that 4,000 babies are killed every day in this country in the name of abortion.

2. There's one demographic group that would vote 100% for the pro-life candidate, if they could - the conception to nine-month people group.

3. Many people who voted for Obama aren't passionate about current events and politics and only paid attention as the last election grew nearer. Now, they just go back to apathy. Those who didn't vote for him are the ones about to break a blood vessel.

4. The only people in the Republican Party with a spine are talk show hosts and a large contingent of average Americans. The rest just want to be liked by Democrats.

5. Obama is actually very consistent in his views. It's just that the mainstream media never focused on his past. Too many people followed along with the media and ignored his radical liberalism that he already displayed. Now, it can't be hidden.

6. Liberals rarely discuss any issue, especially the life issue, without attacking the person (ad hominem argument). Anybody who does that, deep down knows that they are on the losing end of a logical debate.

7. Ninety-nine percent of the people in the pro-life movement will never be well-known, but they are the most important. They might be someone counseling in front of a Planned Parenthood or maybe just parents who support their daughter and convince her to have the baby.

8. Thanks to the Catholic Church for putting the life issue on the front burner. For most other churches, the life issue is not even in the house.

9. The NCAA basketball tournament is one of the few institutions that the liberals haven't corrupted. You win, you keep playing. You lose, you just go home. If the liberals ran it, the point-challenged team (can't call them losers) in the first round would get a trophy for playing and then a financial bailout. The national champion would then be demonized for taking advantage of the little guy.

10. The key to changing people's minds and hearts concerning abortion is visual. Showing the ultrasound of a live baby or a video or photo of an aborted baby will probably have more impact than someone reading a complete pro-life book.

The longer I live the less I'm surprised by poor journalism in major media outlets. However, I think the reports about President Obama's recent decision (3/9/09) to force taxpayers to pay for Human Embryonic Stem Cell Research (HESCR) takes the cake. After reviewing the articles and videos by major media sources, as well as the local media here in Fresno, I offer this analysis of what you likely either missed or were misinformed about if those were your only sources for information.

Edward Obeng Kwakye, a determined Pro-Life person in Ghana needs our help. He needs funds for his goal of setting up support systems for women in need across all of Ghana, Africa. He has been doing a lot in the past few years in Ghana and has worked with and been supported by top international Pro-Life agencies.

We at Pro-Life Unity have taken on the task now of helping him continue his work. The following is a list of some of his immediate needs. There is no way of donating over the Internet, and whatever you donate is not tax deductible, but don't let that stop you from helping the women of Ghana! What you will have to do is wire money directly to Edward through Western Union. I speak with Edward on the phone regularly and he has a heart to do what's right in the world and genuinely wants to represent God and decency.

When I talked to my mother today and she had never heard of the Dickey Amendment, I knew we pro-lifers had a huge problem on our hands. If a woman who has been fighting for pro-life issues for nearly four decades did not know what the Dickey Amendment was, I realized there was a lot of work to do getting the word out about this very important piece of legislation.

Let us start with some history. In 2001, President Bush allowed federal funds to be used for research on human embryonic stem cells. These funds were restricted to research on human embryonic stem cell lines created before August of that year. This executive order order did not outlaw embryonic stem cell research nor eliminate funding altogether. It simply meant that from that point forward no federal tax dollars could not be used to fund the research on stem cell lines created by newly destroyed human embryos.

On Monday, President Obama overturned this restriction. Now our tax money can be used to fund research on cell lines created by ripping open human embryos left-over from infertility treatments. Pro-lifers everywhere sent up a collective groan and then probably thought all was lost in the fight on protecting embryonic life. But, Monday's announcement is only a relatively small battle lost in a much bigger war.

President Obama, like President Bush before him, issued an executive order. This means that a future president could put the restrictions on funding back into place. So, senators Tom Harkin (D-IA) and Arlen Specter (R-PA) have introduced The Stem Cell Research Enhancement Act of 2009 to Congress which would allow for the federal funding of embryonic stem cell research permanently. It would codify the federal funding of human embryonic stem cell research into law.

Now here is where things get tricky. Obama's executive order and The Stem Cell Research Enhancement Act of 2009 only allow funding for research on embryonic stem cell lines created from embryos left over from IVF treatments. Federal funds still cannot go to fund research that creates or destroys human embryos thanks to the Dickey Amendment. The Dickey Amendment prohibits federal funds to be used to create or destroy human embryos for research purposes. This Amendment was signed into law by President Clinton. Not even twenty-hours had passed after President Obama lifted the funding restriction, and already lawmakers and scientists were calling for the Dickey Amendment to be overturned. If the Dickey Amendment is overturned our recently unrestricted tax dollars would go to fund embryo farms where human life is created and destroyed as a research tool for scientists. It would also allow the federal government to fund the cloning of human embryos for use in research.

It is important to understand that this fight to protect human embryos is far from over. Please contact your representatives in Congress and President Obama and ask them to uphold the Dickey Amendment. Tell them you do not want your money to fund the creation and destruction of nascent human life.

For those of you who need a push here is the letter I have written:

Pro-Life Unity

United we stand - Divided they die

This is getting a little frustrating for us ordinary, run of the mill, fly over country, conservative type folks. A guy talks the talk, walks the walk, gets up in the ranks and then takes a powder. Come on - what ever happened to principled leadership?

I thought the reason for taking on the role of leader was to provide real direction and restate the principles of the party in a way that both encouraged the base, energized those who have to do the heavy lifting and inspire the onlookers so as to attract those who could benefit from the collaboration.

Lets start by being candid and admitting full disclosure. I have known Mike Steele though the years and thought him to be a rising star. In a world that seemed punctuated by blandness, he offered an opportunity for the Republican Party to challenge certain stereotypes and to invite a new generation of Americans to explore the ideas of real independence, respect for the rule of law and most importantly in my book, respect for the sanctity of every human life.

So Michael Steele is elected to run the Republican Party after a very interesting race. My preferred candidate was another friend, Ken Blackwell, but when Steele seemed to have the momentum during the balloting, Blackwell apparently threw his support to Mike.

So Mike has his little exchange with Rush. OK, call it trying to assert his role. Not very bright in my book, but I will give him a pass. After all some of it was the press and some of it was inarticulate comments.

But the interview wit GQ reveals a very different Michael Steele than the one I knew and spoke with on different occasions Indeed if I did not know better, and perhaps this may be the heart of the problem, it would seem that someone took him into the back room and told him to box up all that pro-life rhetoric and respect for marriage lingo. Here is the new script. And being the political person he is....

Is that the case?

Those who are committed to killing as a virtue will justify it on the most absurd grounds. The recent "tourist suicide" of a British couple in Switzerland prompted death promoter Phyllis Wooton of Dignity in Dying to come up with a real doozy. "If only it were legal here, they might still be alive."

A documentary about late-term abortions in Russia, 7 years in the making, has just been released. [JLS note: I have been watching for this film for a year.]

Killing Girls has already been nominated for best documentary film in 3 European film festivals and through the wonders of technology is available to download online for $14.99, which I did last weekend. (DVD is also available for $22.99.) Here's the trailer...

The primary setting of Killing Girls is the Center for Family Planning and Reproduction in St Petersburg, a large, old hospital where babies are delivered on one floor and aborted on the next. Mothers recover together.

Late-term abortions are common in Russia. In a country where the film tells us 80% of women abort an average of two to 10 times, older girls tell younger girls to wait until after 20 weeks to abort because, they say, it is better for the female body to have an induced abortion than surgical abortion. The girls worry about becoming sterile. Very messed up. This despite the fact abortions are free up to 12 weeks.

Killing Girls tracks the labor-induction abortions of several teens. The name of the movie is a play on words, because as Irish director David Kinsella wrote me, "All the girls I filmed gave birth to girls." By "gave birth" Kinsella meant aborting by labor induction, except one who changed her mind and went on to deliver a full-term girl....

Because these were labor-induction abortions, I asked Kinsella if any babies survived....

Abortion happy Obama hasn't spent a full two months on the job yet he's already proving to be a formidable puppet for the abortion industry. Here's a quick recap on the anti-life record of President Obama for 2009:

- January 6, 2009 - Obama chooses Thomas Perrelli, the lawyer who represented Terri Schiavo's husband Michael in his efforts to kill his disabled wife by painful 13-day starvation and dehydration death, as the third highest attorney in the Justice Department.

- January 22, 2009 - Obama releases statement restating support for the Roe v. Wade decision that allowed virtually unlimited abortions and has resulted in over 50 million fetal deaths since 1973. (Despite this particular issue being "above his paygrade".)

- January 23, 2009 - Obama forces taxpayers to fund pro-abortion groups that either promote or perform abortions in other nations. His decision to overturn Mexico City Policy sends part of $457 million to kill children worldwide.

- January 26, 2009 - Obama nominee for Deputy Secretary of State, James B. Steinberg, tells members of the Senate that taxpayers should be forced to fund abortions.

- February 27, 2009 - Obama starts the process of overturning pro-life conscience protections President Bush put in place to make sure medical staff and practitioners (aka, real doctors) are not forced to do abortions.

But I think his most laughable act as a self-proclaimed Christian president would have to be in his appointing maternally devoid harpy, Kansas Governor Kathleen Sebelius, to become the secretary of Human and Health Services. His makes perfect sense, because when I hear, "Fight to reduce abortions in America" I automatically think, "Appoint an avid anti-life Nazi to a position of authority in Human and Health Services - the principal agency responsible for protecting the health of all Americans."

As Obama's top health official, Sebelius will have a major impact in crafting a health care plan that would cover abortions with taxpayer funds and require insurance companies to cover abortions in their plans. When not bombarding Obama with meaningless chatter about non-issues, media outlets and Obamaites scoffed at Christian Defense Coalitions "Obama the Abortion President" campaign which pictured an Uncle Sam-clad Obama stating "I want YOU to pay for abortions!"

Well, we hate to say "I told you so", but it's quickly becoming apparent that the only thing pro-life about Obama is his two daughters who somehow managed to escape Michelle alive and intact.

Sebelius has a reputation as a boring, milquetoast, gray, uninspired career politician. The only prominent feature in her political profile is her reputation of being an unswerving pro-abortion whack job. While a state representative, Sebelius fought continually against parental notification, abortion waiting periods, and informed consent laws. As governor she twice vetoed abortion clinic regulation legislation and a bill seeking to curb late-term abortions. And, in spite of evidence of several botched abortions requiring emergency hospitalization - including one abortion death - Sebelius also vetoed bills that would have provided stricter state safety regulations.

Her position favoring abortion is so radical and extreme that Archbishop Joseph Naumann of Kansas City called on her to stop receiving communion until she disowns her support for the "serious moral evil" of abortion.

Not content to destroy the American economy, Barack Obama lifted the restrictions on the federal funding of destructive embryonic stem cell research. In his statement today the president insults the intelligence of those who have for the last eight years pointed out the utter failure of destructive embryonic stem cell research, disregards the moral sensibilities of the nation and those who oppose the use of tax dollars to fund research that kills human subjects, and misdirects limited federal dollars from that research which has not only shown promise but actually saved lives to blue sky maybes that will take dozens of years of government grants before they reveal their wastefulness.

Rather than repeat what others have said, I refer you to the excellent work of the Bio-Ethics Defense Fund and their presentation of the effects of the president's action.

Understand that the ability of research facilities and universities to commit to this research has never been limited by law or the government . The only thing that President Bush did was prevent the use of your tax dollars form being used to fund it. The reason the private sector will not fund this research is because they have found it leads them literally to a dead end.
So the private and university money has gone into ADULT stem cell research. And guess what? This research is saving lives NOW.

Read this story about the use of adult stem cells to have regenerate bone mass.
This decision was political and designed to attack the pro-life movement and the religious community. And when Obama tells the country he is a "person of faith,"I want to remind him that his actions will be judged by Almighty God, the creator of heaven and earth. And that the blood of these children is on his head, along with all of those who acquiesce to the destruction of the innocent.

We wonder why this nation and the world are in economic troubles. We wonder why there is a constant stream of violence her at home and abroad. Then we ignore the only person who can show us the way. And his name sure is not Obama.

Pro-Life Unity was on-site at the Maryland March for Life yesterday, March 9th, 2009. Our news wing, ProLifeNews.tv broadcasted live from St. Mary's Church starting from 5:30 pm - 6:30 pm. I got plenty of interviews with people who showed up for this event, including Rep. Don Dweyer, Pastor Luke Robinson, Bishop Harry Jackson, David Bereit, Senator Andy Harris, Representative Don Dwyer and many more.

At about 6:40 pm hundreds of people who were gathered at St. Mary's Church started the march for the State House in Annapolis, Maryland. They gathered to stand up for life and oppose abortion and human killing research. By the time everybody got to the rally at the State House, some say there were as many as 1,500 people participating. I could hear the cheers of the people from a block away as I made my way from my car. No, I couldn't march with everybody else, I had too much equipment, & well, I have crutches, so the combination of the two make things a little too difficult to march for very long!

March 9, 2009

WASHINGTON - In a White House ceremony today, President Barack Obama signed an executive order to allow federal funding of research that will require the killing of human embryos.

This order reverses a policy instituted by former President George W. Bush in August 2001, which funded research on already-existing stem cell lines without encouraging any further destruction of human life.

"It is a sad day when the federal government will fund research that exploits living members of the human species as raw material for research," said Douglas Johnson, a spokesman for the National Right to Life Committee. "Obama's order also places our society on a very steep, very slippery slope. Many researchers will not be satisfied to use only so-called surplus embryos. Many researchers are already demanding federal support for research in which human embryos would be created for the specific purpose of research, through human cloning and other methods, and there was nothing in the President's remarks today to limit NIH to the use of so-called surplus embryos created in IVF clinics.

"This sets the stage for an attack on the Dickey-Wicker law, which since 1995 has been a provision of the annual appropriations bills for federal health programs. This law prohibits federal funding of 'the creation of a human embryo or embryos for research purposes; or research in which a human embryo or embryos are destroyed, discarded, or knowingly subjected to risk of injury or death . . .' Any member of Congress who votes for legislation to repeal this law is voting to allow federal funding of human embryo farms, created through the use of human cloning."

Much of the press coverage anticipating Obama's order continued to ignore or downplay the striking advances made in recent years in research using stem cells from non-embryonic sources, including adult stem cells and reprogrammed adult body cells (iPSCs). Do No Harm, a coalition of scientists and researchers opposed to embryo-killing stem cell research (www.stemcellresearch.org), has posted a list of over 70 different disorders for which there have been one or more peer-reviewed scientific studies showing a measure of positive benefits in human patients.

In contrast, embryonic stem cells have yet to benefit a single human patient, and have proven most adept at generating tumors.

Regarding Obama's instructions to NIH to develop "strict guidelines" to govern embryonic stem cell research, Johnson commented, "These so-called ethical safeguards are really merely procedural requirements, an attempt to cloak the fundamentally unethical act of sacrificing living members of our species, homo sapiens, in order to provide raw material for research."

Obama also issued a second directive purporting to free federally sponsored scientific research from the influence of "ideology." Johnson commented, "Giving an absolutely free hand to elites of specialists can result in the ideology of the specialists being imposed on society as a whole. Scientific endeavors that utilize human subjects or otherwise pose dangers to innocent human life must always be subject to oversight by society as a whole, through regular democratic processes."

Source: National Right to Life

The following are several news stories related to President Barack Obama's decision to force taxpayers to fund embryonic stem cell research. The research requires the destruction of human life and has never helped a single patient. On the other hand, alternatives are already in use -- including adult stem cells and induced pluripotent stem cells -- that are helping patients now without killing days-old unborn children.

Obama Funding Embryonic Stem Cell Research Seen as Ideological,
Not Scientific

President Obama continued his attack today on life-saving policies instituted by previous Administrations by rescinding President George W. Bush's 2001 ban on the use of Federal Money to fund Embryonic Stem Cell Research.

The process of harvesting stem cells for this research kills the tiny days-old human being from whom the cells are pillaged. President Obama's Order will allow the use of YOUR tax payer dollars to expand this "research" and further sanction the destruction of innocent human life by the Federal Government, and it places 400,000 frozen embryos in mortal danger.

Arizona Right to Life strongly denounces this horrific decision. In addition to killing the babies from whom the stem cells are harvested, and notwithstanding the President's misleading moniker that this research is "Promising," Embryonic Stem Cell Research has never cured a single disease, despite countless attempts in privately-funded research over the past decade. In fact, it has produced numerous tumors and cell mutations in test patients.

Conversely, Adult Stem Cell Research has yielded treatments for over 70 diseases including Type-1 Diabetes, spinal cord injury and Parkinson's disease. Cord Blood Stem Cell Research and Pluripotent Stem Cell Research have shown rich potential as well. Regardless of the fact that these methods have been successful and are all non-fatal to the cell donor, and despite being in the worst recession in decades, the President has forged ahead with his morally and fiscally irresponsible insistence on the pursuit of life-ending and financially wasteful Embryonic Stem Cell Research.

Despite campaign promises to unite the country, this move comes just days after another anti-life attack in which President Obama overturned regulations protecting healthcare workers from being forced to perform procedures that violate their consciences, and in the shadows of the looming FOCA efforts. President Obama's radical policies have blatantly attacked pro-life policies and adherants, and have divided this country more than ever before.

Arizona Right to Life condemns this policy and the dangerous precipice on which it places this country. We call upon the President to carefully reevaluate the reports on previous Embryonic Stem Cell Research, the promising potential of other forms of Stem Cell Research, and the wishes of millions of concerned citizens nationwide.

Arizona Right to Life urges you to contact the White House and voice your concern over being positioned on this ominous slippery slope. We solicit your prayers and advocacy for the tinyest and most innocent among us, and for the President to adopt a radical change of heart and mind before additional lives are destroyed.

I went out with Bruce Beal the other day to officially kick off the Organized For Life effort in the Virginia area. Admittedly, I was unsure of how it was going to go, and I was a little nervous about knocking on doors to spread the message of life. We gathered our flyers and information and off we went!

DSCN5445.jpg

There was nobody home at the first door, so we left some information at the door and continued on to the 2nd house. A hispanic woman answered and wasn't really interested in talking, but we encouraged her to take some information, which she did. I knew who the people were at the fourth house. I was fairly certain they were "pro-choice", or as we say in the movement, pro-death or pro-abortion. I gathered up my courage and knocked on the door. "John" answered the door and we said our greetings. Then I told him that we were making the rounds as members of Organized for Life and were bringing the message of life to the homes. John was very kind and listened to what I had to say. I asked him if he knew that cloning was legal in America, to which he responded "No". I then explained that in Missouri they passed a clone and kill bill 2 years ago which allows them to manufacture people en masse only to slaughter them before they can be born, only to use them for research.

John listened to what I had to say, yes, he was being kind, but I know he really learned something in those few minutes. In the end, we left him some information and moved on to the next house. It went easier than I thought.

In my general neighborhood, I spoke to people I knew, and they didn't even know about abortion, cloning and embyonic stem cell research. Not one person knew that cloning was legal in America, and in general, I believe citizens of America have little or no understanding of embryonic stem cell research, chimaeras, the mass killing of babies through in vitro fertilization nor many other topics.

It's up to us to get out the message of LIFE, one person and one door at a time. If you are interested in joining Organized for Life send an email to mail@organizedforlife.us. We will help you start a door-knocking campaign in your area.

Today, President Barack Obama has promised to reverse an eight-year policy that placed funding restrictions on destructive embryonic stem cell research. We're disappointed but not surprised by the President's insistence that taxpayers fund research that is both immoral and highly speculative. It's an sad reflection on Obama's administration that his talking points find moral justification for this act through opinion polls.

LifeSiteNews reports a powerful story about a sidewalk counselor who was injured outside of an abortion killing center::

A lone sidewalk counselor at a Cherry Hill abortion center is suffering from serious injuries after a young man driving his pregnant wife to the abortion facility reportedly struck the counselor and ran him over. But the victim's wife says that the event probably saved a life, as she believes she was able to persuade the man afterwards not to have his unborn child killed.
The counselor's wife is a heroic example of a Christ-like witness:

"I thought, 'What would Jesus do?" she told LSN. "So I walked over and I said, 'Hon, I'd like to talk to you. I forgive you for hitting my husband.' And he said, 'Oh, I'm so sorry,' and his whole face just changed.

"Then I said: 'I want you to look at me in the eyes. I've been where you're at, and I can tell you my husband also forgives you, and he probably wants me to tell you that if one broken leg would save your child, he would do it over again.

"You should know that God has something in store mighty for you, and you should take this as a sign from God.' And he said, 'I know, I know. And they never went in [the abortion centre]."

She recalled that she embraced both and exhorted them to "think about this child now."

"This is how important this child is,'" she said.

She spoke the truth in love ... Read the entire story at LifeSiteNews.

United we stand - Divided they die - Pass it on

The selection of Kathleen Sebelius to be Secretary of Health and Human Services continues to outrage pro-life and Catholic groups throughout the nation. Yet certain politicians are missing the moment to stand firm on the life issues according to various sources.

Some however are not going quietly into that good night and have decided that this is an important line to be drawn in the sand. A website known as Catholics against Sebelius recently appeared urging people to stand up and be counted on this appointment. Its creator Deal Hudson will be speaking at the Arizona Right to Life dinner on Saturday, March 7, 2009 in Scottsdale.

Yesterday Archbishop Joseph Naumann continued his remarks calling Sebelius to repudiate her public position on abortion and embrace the cause of life. He told her she should refrain from receiving Holy communion until she makes a public statement and abandons her public pro-abortion position.

not surprisingly the Obama Quislings came out in support of Sebelius and blasted Hudson and other Catholics. these collaborators with the death peddlers set up their own website and continue to sow seeds of dissent among Catholics. In essence they are the next generation of the infamous "Catholics for a Free Choice," a group once funded by playboy and planned parenthood and run by Frances Kissling.

As apologists for Obama they are the successors of the quislings and collaborators throughout history who sided with the oppressors of freedom and liberty. they would see dead children before they raise a hands against their masters. They will have to answer for the confusion they have created.

The abortion industry is relentless. Not content with plying its trade, it wants government to subsidize it. Not content with having own in the courts, it wants to force its acceptance upon the American people. The time for complacency is over. The time to protect our children is now.

The debate between a pro-abortion person and a pro-lifer often tends to be two different types of arguments. It's a case of a pro-lifer arguing for the majority or statistical approach, while the pro-abortion person usually goes for the exception or worst-case scenario argument to make the point.

The pro-lifer looks at the overall view that an unborn baby is being killed. That is a 100% certainty in abortion. The pro-abortion view focuses on how terrible life outside the womb will be for the unborn and its mother. For example, they say that the mother is single and in poverty, so that's a good enough reason not to give birth. By taking this worst-case scenario approach, they forget or ignore the fact that for most people this state is transitional. Most do not stay at poverty level, nor do women always stay single. Do they ever emphasize that there are programs of support, either financially or emotionally, from many different agencies?

Another criticism is that the woman's social, career, or school situation will be forever altered in a negative fashion. The alternative view should be that, more than likely, the new baby will change the mother's situation but just on a different temporary level. There may a bump in the road, but in a few years the woman probably will find that bump very insignificant.

Even the alternative of adoption is often criticized. The proponents of abortion may cite a remote case where adoptive parents abused their child, and completely ignore the overwhelming number of very successful adoptions. They also have used the argument that it will be too tough for the mother to give the child up for adoption. The obvious answer is that if it would be too hard on her to give up the child, then she should just keep it.

It's the first Friday of the month and it's time to call for LIFE!

Thank you for all you do for the unborn. Without us speaking out for them, they would die in silence, killed by abortion or embryonic stem cell research. In the end, our representatives, through our prodding, will do the right thing and end abortion and human killing research.

I would like to ask everyone to do one more thing for the unborn this month. Please contact at least 2 people who might do just a little bit more to help the unborn and encourage them to join us in the Monthly Call for Life. It's only once a month, and it's so easy! Go to monthlycallforlife.com for everything you need to say and do.

My two cents on Senator Sam Brownback and the Sebelius nomination

image

I've interviewed Sen. Sam Brownback and he has spoken at Blogs for Life a couple of times, but now, I've got to wonder, who is that masked man? Okay, so I've heard stories about him before, but I set aside the negatives, but now, no way!

What did Brownback have to say about the pro-death/pro-abortion nomination of Kansas Gov. Kathleen Sebelius as the next Secretary of Health and Human Services (HHS)?

"By order of the government, a healthy young woman was denied food and water until she died."

(Nashville, TN) - The story of Terri Schiavo caused a nationwide uproar that garnered the attention of the worldwide media, the U.S. Congress, and even the office of the President of the United States. The ethical and cultural implications of her case are still being felt throughout society and continue to spark debate. In the newly-released documentary, The Terri Schiavo Story (Franklin Springs Family Media), previously unexplored facts of the case are revealed through in-depth interviews with participants on both sides of the issue. Hosted by author and speaker Joni Eareckson Tada, who became personally involved in the case in 2005, The Terri Schiavo Story sheds new light on the controversial decision that led to the death of a 41-year-old disabled woman.

In 1990, at the age of 26, Terri Schindler Schiavo suffered a mysterious cardio-respiratory arrest for which no cause has ever been determined. She was diagnosed with hypoxic encephalopathy - a neurological injury caused by lack of oxygen to the brain. Terri was placed on a ventilator, but was soon able to breathe on her own and maintain vital function. She remained in a severely compromised neurological state and was provided a PEG tube to ensure the safe delivery of nourishment and hydration. On March 31, 2005, Terri Schindler Schiavo died of marked dehydration following more than 13 days without nutrition or hydration under the order of Circuit Court Judge, George W. Greer of the Pinellas-Pasco's Sixth Judicial Court.

Veteran producer and director Ken Carpenter felt the story deserved to be re-told, but he did not anticipate the amount of new information that would come to light. "Working on this project made clear to me that we need to keep Terri's story alive. Our children need to know the lines were drawn when our government and court system let Terri die."

Joni Eareckson Tada, herself disabled after a diving accident which left her a quadriplegic in a wheelchair and unable to use her hands, says what happened to Terri continues to affect disabled citizens. "The story remains relevant because there are countless people like Terri Schiavo whose lives are in grave danger because of unclear custody and guardianship laws," says Tada. "Plus, more states (under futile care policy directives) are quietly removing the feeding tubes from brain-injured people when families abandon their responsibilities. Feeding tubes are providing basic care, not medical treatment."

Terri's brother, Bobby Schindler, was interviewed at length in the documentary and is now involved in helping families in similar circumstances through The Terri Schindler Schiavo Foundation. Schindler believes the truth about his sister's death has been distorted and hidden - until now.

"Our hope is that people will learn the truth about what happened to Terri," says Schindler, "and realize the atrocity that it was and that anyone who claims that her death was 'peaceful' and 'painless' is lying. It is because of the truly inhumane nature of death by dehydration that when people are killed this way it is always done behind closed doors in the strictest secrecy. I wholeheartedly believe that if the public had been allowed to witness Terri's suffering first hand, the outcry would have deafened Florida and the world."

Tada was on the front lines with Terri's family in 2005, helping lead the protests that eventually landed in the halls of the U.S. Congress. "I hope that people understand that Terri Schiavo's story is really our story," says Tada. "We have a special obligation to protect the weak and vulnerable in our society. We have a responsibility to uphold their human dignity -- because we are of equal dignity, we are not at each other's disposal. The weak and the vulnerable need their rights safeguarded and protected... we must not allow them to become eroded. For when we do, we are jeopardizing the rights of us all."

Originally produced as an episode for the Joni & Friends television series, Franklin Springs Family Media felt the story was compelling enough to produce as a stand-alone project. Their decision was recently justified when The Terri Schiavo Story won the Jubliee Award for Best Documentary at the San Antonio Independent Christian Film Festival.

The "holy grail" of regenerative medicine would be stem cells that are pluripotent (able to become most or all of the 200 cell types in the body) that are also a genetic match to a patient. This would mean that a patient could be treated with cells that are flexible enough to become whatever cell type is needed but also would not require that the patient take drugs to prevent rejection like with other transplants.

As of now, there are two ways that scientist are looking to achieve this. Therapeutic cloning is the first. Therapeutic cloning would create a cloned embryo that would be a "genetic match" to the patient and then that cloned embryo would be destroyed for the embryonic stem cells inside. Unfortunately, this approach has all kinds of problems. First and foremost, it would create and destroy human life which is never justified even if the outcome is a proposed good. Secondly, this approach would require a multitude of human eggs which would put young women at risk of exploitation. Egg donation is an involved process that in some cases can cause infertility and, in rare cases, death. Thirdly, the cloned embryo would not truly be a genetic match to the patient because there would be DNA leftover from the woman who donated the egg. Finally, this approach opens the door to reproductive cloning, or cloning to produce children, which nearly everyone finds repugnant.

Induced pluripotent stem cells (iPS cells) are considered the alternative to cloning for embryonic-like stem cells. In this approach, scientist take a cell from the patient and "reprogram" it back to an embryonic-like state. These cells would be a genetic match to the patient and they appear to behave just like their embryonic brothers. No eggs, no embryos, no cloning, no creation or destruction of human life. Genetically matched pluripotent stem cells without all of the ethical issues.

In the past, this approach had one real problem. To "reprogram" the cell, researchers had to insert four genes into the DNA of the cell with viruses. Some of these viruses have been known to cause cancer and inserting and leaving genes in the genetic material of a cell that would be used for therapeutic reasons is never a good idea.

This week researchers have announced that they have overcome this problem. They used a system that inserts the four genes needed to reprogram the cell and then removes them. From the Washington Post:

In the new work, Nagy and his colleagues in Toronto and at the University of Edinburgh in Scotland instead used a sequence of DNA known as a transposon, which can insert itself into the genetic machinery of a cell. In this case, the researchers used a transposon called "piggyBac" to carry four genes that can transform mouse and human embryonic skin cells into iPS cells. After the conversion took place, the researchers removed the added DNA from the transformed cells using a specific enzyme.

"PiggyBac carries the four genes into the cells and reprograms the cells into stem cells. After they have reprogrammed the cells, they are no longer required, and in fact they are dangerous," Nagy said. "After they do their job they can be removed seamlessly, with no trace left behind. The ability for seamless removal opens up a huge possibility."

Scientists used embryonic skin cells for this study, but are confident that it will work in adult cells as well. This breakthrough naturally begs the question: Can we stop destroying human embryos for their biological material now?

... One beneficiary of Kathleen Sebelius' good cheer toward abortionists was Krishna Rajanna, who owned a Topeka chop shop.

After it was discovered he kept a filthy mill with evidentiary photographs of a dead mouse in the hall and aborted babies in the refrigerator, the latter which staffers said they saw Rajanna eating in soup, legislators introduced clinic regulation legislation. Sebelius vetoed that twice....

All this information and more is waiting in the wings for Sebelius' confirmation hearing, but will it ever see the light of day?

Likely not, thanks to KS Senators Sam Brownback and Pat Roberts....

But here is where Brownback in particular made a common pro-life politician's mistake, which too many pro-lifers accept: Casting dreams for what he could do for us tomorrow, Brownback didn't do the right thing today.

I don't care what pro-life politicians promise they will do for me tomorrow. Tomorrow never comes. I only care what they do for me today. In fact, they're only where they are today because they cast dreams in a previous campaign to do something for me today....

Now to the damage abortion loving Sebelius could do as HHS secretary....

March 3, 2009
One last post about Sebelius - and a petition for you to sign.  George Tiller, pictured below, is the abortionist of last resort for women who come to Kansas to abort babies up until the last minute of their pregnancy through partial birth abortion (the truth - including graphic image - here) - with Sebelius doing her best for years to protect him from scrutiny, while receiving Planned Parenthood support for her campaign.

From American Life League (I can vouch for all of this as I researched and reported on this last summer for Focus on the Family):

STOP Sebelius:
Petition Against HHS Appointment of Kansas Gov. Kathleen Sebelius

President Obama's appointment of Kansas Gov. Kathleen Sebelius for Health and Human Services Secretary is rock solid proof our new president has no concern for the health of Americans. Rather, Obama's modus operandi has and will continue to be full-scale attack on the personhood of the weak, disabled and preborn.

Kathleen Sebelius, Obama's pick to lead the nation's chief agency for health care, has made no secret of her radical support for the abortion movement. Indeed she has praised, defended and treated to dinner at the governor's mansion the notorious Dr. George Tiller - set to stand trial for performing illegal late term abortions.

Sebelius, an alleged Catholic, has been repeatedly rebuked by her archbishop for her pro-abortion work. In fact Archbishop Joseph Naumann has asked Sebelius not to receive Holy Communion in his archdiocese for her flagrant support for the intrinsic evil of abortion.

Appointing Gov. Sebelius to HHS Secretary is like appointing Dr. Jack Kevorkian as Surgeon General. Kathleen Sebelius poses a huge threat to the health and well-being of every single American, particularly those marginalized by the culture of death.

We the undersigned demand that our Senators, as our elected representatives, reject Obama's recommended appointment of Gov. Kathleen Sebelius to Health and Human Services Secretary.

Sign petition here.

When we pulled up, Greg was praying alone in front of the abortion mill at 900 S. Washington in Falls Church, VA. I asked him why he was there and he said he was there as a part of 40 Days for Life. He added:

"We're trying to help mothers in crisis situations avoid abortions. We're trying to get the message out that all human beings are persons and that if we deny the personhood of a human being, horrible things happen, that's what we've seen since Roe vs Wade. We've seen it other places, we saw it with slavery, we saw it in Bosnia, we've seen it in the concentration camps of WWII, and so I just want to stand up and say I don't agree with this and we've got to stop it because if we just ignore it, it's not going to go away."

March 1, 2009

I spoke with Liz, a sidewalk counselor at the abortion mill in Washington D.C. recently. Liz spoke about what is like to be there and why she goes.

"The ministry out here at the clinics is really just about bringing the love of Christ to these women, whether they're going in for an abortion or if they're coming out."
