Not much of a post this time around. Just thought you might appreciate this video from the Truth Project.
Rev. Sirico, co-founder and President of the Acton Institute, talks of a Roman soldier's shock in witnessing Christians risking their lives to help others infected with The Plague.
What an awesome example from Christian patriarchs in living a culture of life, even at risk to their own lives.

This is what "pro-life" should be about and not just anti-abortion. I am so sick of listening to the pro-life extremists around me decrying the doom of the Obama era because he is pro-abortion. Why don't they take a look at what pro-life means . . . like Christians risking their lives for fellow humans. As well, they should look at their stance on capital punishment, their hatred of gays and liberals. If they love life so much, they should welcome some kind of universal care that would even provide for those unwanted babies and special needs children. (perhaps the number of abortions would be reduced, as a start) I don't like abortion, but I think we should start by being pro-caring for fellow human beings and not hating them after they are born. Then maybe I'll start listening to them.
Now hold on a second, please, Madelyn.
Yes, being pro-life is not just about abortion; it's about recognizing, defending, and promoting the sanctity of life from conception till natural death, and it's about loving the born child as much as the unborn.
But let's not go off on a tangent regarding homosexuality or universal health care.
As for reducing the number of abortions, would you be okay with reducing the number of Jews murdered during the Holocaust? My guess is you would not. And since I view abortion as a holocaust in the womb, it is simply not enough to "reduce" abortion. It must not happen. Not ever.
Incidentally, you speak of pro-lifers "hating" people after they are born. Are you sure you're not just creating a straw man argument? If you've actually met a radical who loves unborn babies but hates them after they're born, I understand your frustration and I'm sorry to hear that.
If a homosexual was about to be aborted, liberals would stand aside and insist that it was a constitutional right to rip her arms and legs off and to crush her skull. If any pro-lifers attempted to save her, liberals would have them arrested.
Obama has promised many things about abortion.
- Use our money to dismember little humans in America, mostly minority children.
- Use our money to disembowel little humans in foreign lands, mostly black and brown children.
- Sign FOCA, which some believe would undo very modest abortion restrictions, like informing parents that their daugter was going to be operated on.
Obama is a sick man. He spoke casually about the prospect of aborting his own grandbaby, yet mourned the loss of the constitutional right to stab a baby in the skull and suck her brains out.
To see what a culture of life really looks like, visit the Philippines.
The Constitution there guarantees the unborn the right to life. Abortion patients AND docs are routinely jailed for up to six years.
And yet, everyone, including right-to-life groups like Physicians for Life, seems to agree that the per capita abortion rate there is at least as high as it is in USA.
This is what you get with the culture of life. Death.
Oh and L, FOCA will not nullify parent-notification laws, because those laws do not stop anyone from getting an abortion. Also, FOCA says "women" have the right, not "girls" or "females", so it may not apply to minors at all.
If it does apply to minors, then it will protect a minor from being forced by her parents to have an abortion against her will. That's pro-life. Generally, FOCA protects the right to choose NON-abortion, as well as abortion. This will become more important as we continue our transition-in-progress to national health care and teh government acquires a greater interest in aborting expensive problem pregnancies.
SoMG, L, and anyone else who is interested in learning more about FOCA, please go to http://www.FightFoca.com.
Also, Denise Burke, VP of Americans United for Life, has written a great analysis of FOCA here: http://www.aul.org/foca
It's amazing what some people will believe. We can't count abortion is America where it is legal, but we can count it in the Philippines, where it is illegal and people who do it might be thrown in prison.
The USA is a modern country. It has the best communications. It has a highly regulated medical industry and almost all the people live in a relatively safe, contiguous land mass. But when the Guttmacher Institute and Center for Disease Control both attempt to count abortions they can't come close to agreement.
But we know how many abortions take place in a country made up of over 1,700 islands spread across the ocean, where GDP per person is about $5000, and where they speak over 100 languages.
The silly premise is that pro-life laws cause abortion. Hence, the irrational devotion to Philippine abortion numbers. But the premise is easliy disproved by looking at the USA, where abortions skyrocketed post death Roe no matter whose numbers were being used.
