With Barack Obama now president, many in the pro-life community are extremely upset, and rightfully so. If he follows through with his plans, he will do everything in his power to make sure that it's easier to get abortions during his administration. If he signs the Freedom Of Choice Act, it will overturn all the hard work the pro-life movement has done legislatively over the past few years. It may be hard to fathom, but he wants to give more rights to terrorists who want Americans dead than to totally innocent unborn babies.
That being said, when one analyzes the amount of abortions that have occurred, it doesn't matter who the president is or which party he is from. In the last 14 years, under both Democrat and Republican presidents, the yearly amount of abortions has decreased by approximately 200,000. That's cause for celebration, until you think that there are still 1.2 million babies being killed every year. Also, can that decrease be attributed to anything the president or any political party has done? Some will say that it did, but when you look at the facts, it just doesn't show it. The most notable accomplishment is the Partial-Birth Abortion Ban Act in 2003, but that prevents relatively few abortions. The president, of course, has the ability to inform the masses about this horrendous act called abortion. Unfortunately, the best that we have seen is George W. Bush on rare occasions using the phrase "culture of life" or some similar term.
I believe abortions have decreased because teens and young adults have realized that it is a baby being killed, and there has to be a better alternative than abortion. Educational organizations such as Stand True, Justice For All, Students For Life, and many Catholic pro-life groups have greatly helped educate the youth about abortion. High school and college-aged students have tremendous communication networks, such as MySpace, Facebook, texting, etc. When the youth is exposed to the truth about the pro-life view, it can spread like wildfire.
The pro-life message is often sugar-coated by using benign pictures and terminology. The youth just want to be told the honest truth. Of course, if they are shown graphic photos or videos, they may be repulsed, but in the long term there's a very good chance they will remember them. The pro-life community is in a battle with universities, the media, and movies where abortion is often seen as a very acceptable practice. The pro-life side is almost always portrayed in a negative fashion, but the truth about abortion needs to be continually exposed. Although this task of changing their hearts and minds may seem insurmountable, it can be successful. No matter who is president, the pro-life fight needs to be focused at a grassroots level with the youth in our culture.

I am 57 years old. In my lifetime, smoking has been dramatically reduced because the collective consciousness of the country has changed. What lead to this change was a media blitz on the harmful effects and by the warning of the Surgeon General of the U.S.
The media hasn't helped the pro life story at all. The only solution now is the grassroots strategy of person to person door to door talking and showing graphic photos of what abortion is all about.
We need a group that models itself to the structure and tactics of Acorn to do this. In the mean time just google "graphic abortion photos" or "abortion signs" there is a lot to choose from. Start putting these signs on vehicles and drive around town. It will take guts but that's what freedom is all about.
Remember, there is no God given right to any abortion, so far the right has been granted by man alone and we let them get away with it. The Preamble to the US Constitution calls on us to protect not only our rights, but the rights of our posterity [future generations].
Rom 1:20 For the unseen things of Him from the creation of the world are clearly seen, being realized by the things that are made, even His eternal power and Godhead, for them to be without excuse.
When they look at those pictures and hear the horror stories God has promised they will know a grave injustice has been done.
Rom 12:1 I beseech you therefore, brothers, by the mercies of God to present your bodies a living sacrifice, holy, pleasing to God, which is your reasonable service.
Rom 12:2 And do not be conformed to this world, but be transformed by the renewing of your mind, in order to prove by you what is that good and pleasing and perfect will of God.
Rom 12:3 For I say, through the grace given to me, to every one who is among you, not to think of himself more highly than he ought to think. But set your mind to be right-minded, even as God has dealt to every man the measure of faith.
The American public had their minds renewed by man to believe a choice to murder is just and righteous. Now it's your turn to show them the fruits of their desires when they worship at the alter of temporal pleasures at the expense of innocent life.
Past mistakes in my life caused me to come to a crossroad in regard to a baby of my own. Abortion was never an option. Never considered it. When I look at the daughter I have after a decision I made and the two beautiful, intelligent grandchildren I have today, I wonder if people who choose abortion have any idea of the consequences of our decisions. God said He knew you before you were in the womb. BEFORE.... That's life, my friend. May our leader see what an impact this will make on our "leaders" of tomorrow.
I'm surprised that very little attention has been given to the fact that the Republican part states it has a pro-life stand, yet did little to outlaw it. The republicans had the presidency, control of congress and the supreme court, giving them power to make changes, but did not. If I am correct, 5 supreme court justices claim to be catholic. I can't help but wonder if the republicans claim to be pro-life to get the religious right votes.
Jim the answer to your question is a definate yes. Remember we're talking about politicans. They will say whatever any given group wants to hear in order to get their vote. I don't remember very many of them that actually lived up to their promises.
When it comes to this matter I am very pro-life and pro-choice. I do not think that it is my right to decide whether or not something is wrong for another person to do. God has already placed a moral code in which we are all to live by.
But even God gives us the freedom of choice, and he doesn't enforce it upon people.
I think every one should answer for them selves what they choose to do. I do how ever think that we should in a loving manner inform them of the repercussions of their decisions and prayerfully lift them up before God to change their heart.
At the last day, it won't be our president answering to God in our behalf. We all will stand before the throne of judgment and be accountable for what we did.
So lets quite with being the Pharisees (always trying to take the focus off of our own sins and placing them on others) and stop trying to take away the rights of people(whether its morally wrong or not its not our duty to force it upon some one else).
One day our religious freedom will also be taken away.... and it will be the Christians who make it happen. The Christians are the ones asking for government to step in. Our country was founded on freedom and separation of church and state. But the Christians... by using this pro-life and anti-gay marriage campaigning will ultimately be the reason and start to the one world government.
If you are so afraid of it changing your child's life, Why don't you take that extra freedom to do this anti-what ever and start putting that extra time into instilling the values that you desire your children to know. Its you the parent who is accountable for what your kids know and its the Holy Spirits job to instill their beliefs. So quit trying to change the world and start focusing on the one's God entrusted to you... your children.
We are to be in this world as a shining light, not of the world causing more havoc.
"I do not think that it is my right to decide whether or not something is wrong for another person to do."
What an incredibly selfish way of life. If you want to be a drug addict, go right ahead. If you belong to the KKK, then that's your business. If you want to chop a baby up into little pieces, be my guest.
This question, does it matter who is President for the unborn, is typically asked by faux pro-lifers who support politicians that wage war on the unborn. It's an attempt to delude themselves into thinking they aren't part of the onslaught.
There are many children alive today who would not be here if Gore or Kerry had become president. Here are just a few examples of the things GWB did to protect innocent children.
- Reinstated the Mexico City policy to protect poor children in foreign nations. BO has already removed this protection. Poor children will pay for it with their lives.
- Cut off funding for UNFPA, a UN agency supporting China's forced abortions.
- Signed a ban on partial-birth abortion. At the time, BO openly grieved that it was no longer a constitutional right to suck the brains out of live babies.
- Signed the Laci and Conner Peterson act.
- Signed the Born Alive Infant Protection Act, which required medical professionals to treat abortion survivors like patients. In his obsession to have dead babies, BO argued in IL that these laws were unconstitutional.
GWB did many other things to protect the unborn.
Before you think it doesn't matter who is President, ask yourself why abortion proponents don't act that way.
"We all will stand before the throne of judgment and be accountable for what we did."
and those that have repented unto life and have faith that Jesus is both God and man, and He died on the cross and rose from the dead to pay the penalty for our sins, that He lived a perfect life while on earth so He could purchase a place in Heaven for us, will receive His righteous holiness based on His work, not ours.
"separation between church and state" is a slogan used to deliberately omit the authority of God's word so you don't feel accountable. The organic law [the Declaration of Independence] says our rights come from God. If you get rid of God totally out of the fabric of our culture, you also rid yourself of all your rights.
"But even God gives us the freedom of choice, and he doesn't enforce it upon people."
Yes he does and Adam was driven out of the garden and given a death sentence for his "free choice" simply because he rebelled against God. True we are free to fall into sin, and free to feel the consequences of it's effects, both here in this world as chastisement, and also in eternity for the unbeliever.
"I do not think that it is my right to decide whether or not something is wrong for another person to do."
You are right. We have civil authorities to do that.
"One day our religious freedom will also be taken away.... and it will be the Christians who make it happen."
This may be exactly what God wants. This is how the Gospel is spread rapidly, just like the persecutions in the book of Acts. Christians were hunted and killed for their faith.
