Snatching Defeat From the Jaws of Victory

Given the infants born alive controversy, Obama's record on partial birth abortion, and Obama's promise to sign the freedom of choice act - I have one question: How in the world did we lose this election?

It's as if we snatched defeat from the jaws of victory - these were winning issues, yet we lost...

We had CLERGY taking out an ad in South Dakota calling for continued abortions. Is there any question as to why God would give us a President who is a puppet for the Weather Underground and Islamofascists?

Maybe pro-lifers have become a little too overconfident. Perhaps the truth is that support for fetal rights in the US is a mile wide and an inch deep.

Just a thought. I have no right to preach I'm Canadian!

I'd like to pin this one on the economy, McCain's anti-conservatism and dissatisfaction with the Bush administration. However, Obama's radical pro-abortion record and socialistic rhetoric suggests the election reflects the prevailing worldview of our society.

Related to my prior comment is this from Mark Steyn:

I think we are near a point at which America joins the rest of the west as a center-left society — that's to say, a society whose assumptions about the role of government and the size of the state are far closer to Continental social democracies than to the Founding Fathers. In a grim media-cultural environment, the temptation for American conservatism is to be seduced into becoming one of those ever so mildly right-of-left-of-right-of-left-of-center parties they have in Europe.

I did the math.

Obama's ad promised $1000.

The CDC noted that 500 live births due to abortions were reported every year. That's 500 babies a year that Barack Obama has promised to consign to a wretched death, forsaken and shivering in an abortion clinic toilet or a hospital utility room.

That works out to $2 a baby, if you voted for Obama.

Considerably less than thirty pieces of silver.

Despite the avalanche of prayer for an Obama defeat, he won. I would like to postulate a number of reasons for this.
(1) he was not listening.
(2) he was not interested
(3) he doesn't exist.
As a godless European I prefer (3)

Here's an alternative interpretation: God gave America the King the post reflected the heart of society. A brutal politician who rejects the sanctity of human life and who will attempt the enslave the US in the mire of socialism.

Tim Please bear with my intellectual incompetence but i can make no logical interptretation of your opening sentence. Please elucidate

humac, as a godless European, then, you wouldn't know that God doesn't answer every prayer in the precise way that those praying would wish. I have no idea what His plan is entailing the U.S., nor do you or any of us.

You also wouldn't probably a) know or b) be interested to know that He also let the Israelites wander and experience death in the deseart for 40 years either. I'm quite sure they thought they were praying for deliverance too.

Lastly humac, Tim's opening sentence makes perfect sense.

"I'd like to pin this one on the economy, McCain's anti-conservatism and dissatisfaction with the Bush administration."

Being European, perhaps you don't know that

a) "The election came [Obama's] way the night of Sunday Sept. 14, when the financial crisis exploded. Before that, he and Sen. McCain were in a virtual tie."

b) McCain's long been known as as non-Republican a Republican as they can be, thus not a conservative (check the political cartoon on this by Mallard Fillmore, the one where McCain is thinkging now: "Whew! I can finally quit pretending to be a conservative!")

and

c) D-uhhhh...it was only the entire underpinning theme of Obama's campaign.

humac, if you cannot make any "logical interpretation" of Tim's opening statement, well, I find that hard to believe from a person using ten dollar words like "postulate" and "elucidate." Surely you must be better read and better informed than you show yourself to be by making such amazing statements here.

If however you meant a sentence he later wrote in his SECOND comment here, it appears to need clarification and yet, his second sentence in that comment makes it clear that God let us have the government we collectively deserve for as a country we've been ignoring God for decades and "getting rid of Him" from our lives, year by year: "A brutal politician who rejects the sanctity of human life and who will attempt the enslave the US in the mire of socialism."

Annie B. First of all I would suggest tht you scrutinise closely Tims opening sentence to which i refer. I quote: God gave America the King the post reflected the heart of society" Well, Annie, if you can make sense of that , to paraphrase Kipling "You're a better man (woman) than i am gungha din.
Secondly. I did not become an atheist overnight.I have studied over many years various religions including , of course, christianity.I have come to the considered conclusion, admittedly aided by my scientific discipline (physics) that it is not logically possible for me to believe in a supernatural entity. There are just too many contradictions,\ non sequiturs and, above all, any vestige of provable conclusions. I hasten to add that my personal beliefs in no way detract fom my self applied edict:"respect other beliefs"
With regard to your comment on the Israelite's 40 year sojourn in the Sinai desert, there is, so far and to my knowledge, not one whit of evidence that this is historical fact. Actually
at this time in archaeological research the available evidence is zero. I appreciate that what you aver is faith based but I cannot accept faith as an arbiter for any belief or lack thereof i may hold. Thankyou for your -somewhat condescending- reply.

Humac - my comment had a simple typo and should have read "God gave America a King who reflects the heart of society". As Annie indicated, my intent was simply to communicate that God gave the American public a leader (i.e., a king ) who reflects their priorities. The use of the word "King" is a reference to 1Sam. 8.

humac, you came here being condescending to start with. Don't be surprised that you receive the same kind of treatment you insist on presenting to us.

You still persist in looking foolish by insisting that you think you're right about what exactly was TIM'S FIRST SENTENCE. You also violate one of the biggest common-sense rules of decent, normal internet commenting, nitpicking about someone's typos, yet you still miss the enormous detail that that wasn't his first sentence in this combox?

"Respond to the argument, not to the spelling.
There is no surer sign of inadequacy on the part of a debater than when they take issue with some small 'error' on the part of their opponent [including "grammar, or insignificant deviations from fact"], while ignoring the main point/s their adversary is trying to make."

Tim. While of course accepting that it was an understandable typographical error(we all make them frequently)I cannot accept you original premis. Mr. Obama was duly elected by the majority (not huge, I concede) of the American electorate. The fact that you personally may not agree with this choice is incidental. It's called democracy. After all, Republicans have been in power for eight years and Democrats have had to go along with that. I hasten to state here that, as far as American politics are concerned I am apolitical by necessity since i am not an American citizen. However, it must be significant that a large number of Obama supporters were (a) well educated (b)young. My own view is that no external entity divine or not was necessary.
As for your remark about "the mire of socialism" I would suggest, in all humility, that you know little or nothing about a perfectly valid system of government.

I checked some Statistics on Abortion, by race -
approximately

1 out of 12 White babies are aborted, and
1 out of 3 Black babies are aborted.

Obama is the most Pro-Abortion politician in office
and 95% of the Blacks voting chose to elect Obama.

If "Racism" means anything, then Obama is the Most Racist politician in the country, because he votes to have more Black babies Killed than anyone.

You're certainly not "apolitical" but I think our most significant area of disagreement relates to the imminence of God in the affairs of men, which is the area I thought you were interested in discussing.

Obama did receive the majority of votes - what's your point? We'll continue to hold him accountable and expose his policies as we have every other president.

Unfortunately, our mixed economy long ago introduced Americans to socialistic policy, which will continue to accelerate under Obama. The current crisis is a direct result of one such policy which was advocated but Obama and defended by his Democratic colleagues in Congress. If history is our guide, the strength of our economy will continue to fade as the productive are looted and the means of production fall into the hands of the government.

I really don't care to have a debate about God's intervention in the world. The subject is why pro-lifers lost in the election. You don't like theistic discussions? Find another place to post. We shouldn't have discussions sidetracked over whether God exists. Most of us have made our minds and think he does.

The line on Death Roe just got a lot longer. Obama's election has sentenced many children to death, especially poor brown and black children.

Obama will certainly end the Mexico City policy, a Republican policy to protect foreign children from American paid abortion. It isn't an accident that most of that money will go to agencies in countries where the population is dark skinned.

Then Obama will attempt to defeat the Hyde amendment, another Republican policy. It protects American children from having the US government from paying for their execution. Most children murdered by this policy will be dark skinned.

The abortion and population control movement have always targeted dark skinned people. Now the half-black president will help do what the KKK could only dream of.
