I want to share with you some thoughts in the hopes that you would be encouraged to continue to pray and fight for life.
President-elect Obama is a charismatic and eloquent speaker. Even though I was not able to tune in to his victory speech, I heard bits and pieces of it and I was moved. He promises to change America and has already begun setting up his cabinet for next year's transition. It seems like he will do a lot of great things for the country - improve our schools, make health care universal, pull-troops out of Iraq, stimulate the economy, and so on.
BUT, let us also remember that President-elect Obama is, thus far, the most pro-abortion president in the history of the US. Already, he is looking to reverse the ban President Bush had set in place to limit Embryonic Stem Cell research in the US. He is also looking into the passage of the Freedom of Choice Act (FOCA). FOCA would eliminate all restriction on abortion nationwide. This includes the ban on partial-birth abortion, a three-day-long abortion procedure, which involves the killing of an unborn baby halfway through the birthing process.
I used to not care about abortion. To me, it was just a medical procedure like radiation, or chemotherapy, or mastectomy. But through God's grace I realized that it was not just a procedure - it is murder.
I was told that Jane Roe (Norma Mccorvey), the person behind Roe v. Wade, is now pro-life. I could not believe my ears. When I read the story of her conversion, I could not help but be amazed at how great, loving and forgiving our Lord is. He actually got the person behind the abortion legislation to become pro-life. He truly is powerful, merciful and loving. As I was looking for her story, I came across a site which had tons of videos. And though it said, "warning: this video contains disturbing images," I still watched one video. It was a 5 minute video containing clips of several abortion procedures. I watched it for 1 minute and then I could no longer take it. I began crying - crying for the women who had those abortions; and crying for the babies who died in the process. And then I prayed hard for abortion to no longer be a reality in this world.
If you think abortion is just a procedure, I suggest that you watch one of those videos.
In the 25 years since Roe v. Wade was passed, approximately 50,000,000 have died because of abortion. And that's only in the US. Each day 4,000 abortions are performed in the US alone. And each year, 500 aborted babies survive those procedures. Some of them were lucky enough to have lived. Gianna Jessen (www.giannajessen.com) is one of them. Majority of them were left to die. A few had been killed by the doctors who performed the abortion.
Life is precious. Life is sacred. Life should be defended.
Even though our country will now be ruled by a pro-abortion President, and by a majority of pro-abortion Congressmen/Congresswomen and Senators, we should not stop praying for an end to abortion. And we should not stop defending life. Because ALL life comes from God.

Good writing Kate. I wish more women would watch an actual abortion, I think it would sway the choice vote considerably. To see life, and then to see it taken, I know there is a video out there called The Silent Scream, and ironically, you mention Roe, how about another shocker, the founder of NARAL is super Pro-Life, and he made The Silent Scream video back in the 80's. The Silent Scream which is noticed during an abortion thru the ultra-sound as the baby is essentially screaming during the procedure, the mouth is wide open and the lungs/heart are at a rapid pace..... I cannot believe society feels this is a right... If it rains for 40 days and 40 nights, I will not look into the sky and ask why....we all know why......
