Obama vs McCain - who won the debate?

| 12 Comments | No TrackBacks

As the candidates debated healthcare, foreign trade, abortion and the education who had the upper hand? It's your chance to comment - Barack Obama or John McCain?

Update: Jules Crittenden has the transcript:

Schieffer: Roe v. Wade. Judges?

McCain: no litmus test. How's about qualified judges? How come dems don't like them?

Obama: I want judges who agree with me.

McCain: What's with the partial birth votes?

Obama: I was for it before I was against it ... (no, that's not it) ... I wasn't for it, I was against other things. By the way, just say no to abortion ...

McCain: That's eloquent ...

WorldMagBlog paraphrases:

John McCain: I want states to decide the abortion issue, not Roe v. Wade. I will not cease to protect the rights of the unborn.

Barack Obama: It’s a moral issue, that a woman should decide with her family and religious advisers. I support Roe v. Wade. I’m supportive of a ban on late-term abortion, with the exception of mother’s health and life.

Both left off Barack Obama's deceptive answer regarding his opposition to the Born Alive Infant Protection Act.

I was really impressed by Obama. John McCain keeps insisting that Obama's positions are completely opposite, right after Obama explains them. I think he just can't keep his attention focused. Obama wins.

I am voting for McCAin. He was much tougher with the debate.Still not tough enough. Obama is much better on camera and with the media but I despise his stance on abortion..it is atrocious..

Deanna

I voted for Bush because I thought we'd see an end to abortion. The republicans had the house and the senate and the white house for six years - abortion is still legal.

McCain is a nightmare and abortion will still be legal either way. We need to save the country first. Palin is as corrupt as any of the people she claimed to fight against. No more corrupt republicans in the white house!

No more corrupt politicians? That certainly rules out Barack Obama (ACORN, Ayers, etc.). You must be a Chuck Baldwin supporter.

I KNOW for a fact about Palin's connection with anti-American groups (AIP). I know about her corruption (not paying taxes on per diems or gifts from lobbyists). I know that she lies - constantly. These things about Obama are just speculation - but even if they are true they are not as bad as what Palin is involved in!

Obama's connections are documented - there is really no controversy surrounding this. If you want to support him be realistic about his radical liberalism, shaping influences and opposition to the born alive infant protection act.

smorris-you think relationships with domestic terrorists, and preachers who hate america, and corrupt builders and corrupt politicians, and hezzbolah supporters is not as bad as palin? that's why this country will no longer be the USA as we've known it for 200 yrs will be gone.

McCain could have asked,

"Name on vote you made which affirmed a bill aimed at stopping infanticide"

"What do you do to stop the infanticide in IL when the practice was exposed?"

"Have you apologized to NRTL for calling them 'liars' just before your campaign admitted they were right?"

More questions McCain should have asked:

• "Who cares how old you were when Ayers and his wife planted their first bombs trying to kill US military and American police officers?"
• "You were full grown when you sought and received Ayers’ blessing to be a candidate for public office right there in his living room."
• "You were full grown and holding public office on 9/11 when Ayers was saying that he wished he had bombed more American targets."
• "You were full grown when Ayers appeared on the cover of a Chicago magazine stomping on an American flag."
• "If you and your unrepentant terrorist associate hardly knew each other, how do you explain that he just happened to hire you to run a $100 million program designed by him to radicalize school children?
• "So tell me, Senator Obama, of the two best known radical anti-Americans you associate with, which one do you think is worse – Bill Ayers or the Rev. Jeremiah Wright?"
• "You listened to Rev Wright’s racist and anti-American tirades for 20 years and you couldn’t figure out what sort of lunatic he is – and you worked hand in hand, side by side with the unrepentant terrorist Bill Ayers and you couldn’t figure out that he’s fanatically anti-American? And you want to be the person who picks the key leaders for all US intelligence operations?"

"I voted for Bush because I thought we'd see an end to abortion."

Seriously, this was rather too much to expect. I voted for Bush KNOWING we wouldn't see an end to abortion in his term, but stil voted because he wasn't the Democrat.

When a President actually shows up at the March for Life one (or more) January(s) and speaks from the stage live to the crowd on the national mall, then maybe we could see an end to abortion in that term. Not until. I knew Bush would never do that. It was "lesser of two wrongs", somewhat similar to how it is now, with McCain. Bush was all the GOP could give us then.

Tim, excellent summary of what McCain should have been doing all this time.

He won't lose the election Nov. 4.

He lost it last night.

I'll still vote for him; I have my reasons.

Maybe when the Republicans RETURN TO THEIR CORE ROOTS, and have the WH and most if not all of Congress, maybe then abortion will start to go away legally, but it would only be bit by bit over a couple decades, just like the nightmare of racial segregation was whittled away bit by bit over a couple decades by the NAACP and its lawyers.

Bet no one here knew that Congress actually has had the power all along to remove the cases on abortion from the Supreme Court's jurisdiction. They still have the power. They have always refused to exercise it, thinking that their constituents are mostly pro-choice, but mostly because they're cowards just holding on for their luxurious benefits and pensions.

"No more corrupt republicans in the white house!"

No, so much better to instead have some more corrupt Democrats in the White House, like Clinton.

Even though there was more McCain could have said, if you look at the substance of the debate, McCain beat Obama. It's now to the point that it doesn't matter what he says as long as he looks good and speaks well the MSN and pundits give him the victory. I fear for a society that will accept a shallow liar as worthy of this nation's highest office.

You people are absolutely ignorant. I hope that offends you as we go into another election with a potential WARmonger as a leader who intends on WINNING THAT WAR and bringing us to victory...are we NOT worried about saving the lives of the people who are defending our lame-o country...those who ARE alive and born...who are dying cuz of stupidity and pride? NO, much better to charge forth with the ways of the old...MORE GUNS!! YEAH! MORE WARS!! HOO YA! MORE MONEY IN THE POCKETS OF THE ELITE!!! HECK YES!
Palin reminds me of Rosanne Barr by the way...a total hick with an alcoholic hubbie! Good Luck America!

I am a 20 year old woman. I just want a president who is against abortion. Why would any human being want to kill an innocent baby? I respect those who stand up for what they feel is wrong. Any president who is for killing babies will never have my vote....
