Obama is Pro-Life?

I've often marveled at politicians who assert that they boldly stand for two opposing positions. Beyond the obvious contradiction, it seems to me that their claim is an admission that their actions are necessarily inconsistent with their system of values and, by definition, they lack integrity.

Case in point, some religious Obama supporters called the Matthew 25 network now claim that their candidate of choice is pro-life. Perhaps they ignore Obama's support for the legality of 49,000,000+ abortions of unborn children.

National Right to Life writes

Obama is a 100%er in his votes--for all the bad stuff, and against all the good proposals. That includes everything from support for partial-birth abortion to opposition to parental involvement in life-and-death decisions made by their pregnant daughters to making you and me pay for abortions.

And, as you may already know, Obama supporters spend almost as much time as the Obama campaign denying/deflecting his opposition to Illinois' Born-Alive Infant Protection Act (BAIPA). Obama calls us liars for showing his deep involvement in killing legislation to protect born-alive survivors of abortions. They simply say indignantly that no one could oppose a piece of legislation like BAIPA. The inconvenient truth is that Obama did just that--four times--and then has spent the past four years + covering up what he did.

And Obama's supporters--Catholics or otherwise--simply refuse to deal with the "Freedom of Choice Act" (FOCA). Why? It's simple: they have to. FOCA demolishes the core of their ability to excuse Obama's record--the promise that he would "reduce the number of abortions."

In the October issue of National Right to Life News, NRLC Legislative Director Douglas Johnson unpackages the full threat of FOCA. It is worth noting that Obama appears to be the only senator in the last year or two who has vocally promoted FOCS. As we have noted in this space many times, last year, speaking to the Planned Parenthood Action Fund, Obama said, "The first thing I'd do as president is sign the Freedom of Choice Act. That's the first thing that I'd do."

It is difficult to image a more sweeping piece of pro-abortion legislation. Its reach extends further even than Roe v. Wade's and would, in the words of the National Organization for Women, "sweep away hundreds of anti-abortion laws [and] policies."

There are also other aspects of Obama's proposals--specifically as relates to health care "reform"--that would guarantee an increase, potentially a major increase, in the number of aborted babies.

Lifenews reports the words of CWA president Wendy Wright:

The Matthew 25 Network web site claims "Obama opposes late term abortions" but fails to explain that he opposed the ban on partial-birth abortions and that his wife Michelle used that opposition to a partial-birth abortion ban in a fundraising letter.

And, while the site commends Obama for votes to help pregnant women and his support for the SCHIP program to provide health coverage for poor children, it fails to disclose how Obama voted against an amendment to expand the program to include pregnant women and their unborn children.

While the site attacks Senator John McCain on several health care related votes it fails to note McCain supported the SCHIP measure Obama opposed.

A position cannot be reversed by simply adding something to it. Obama is an ardent supporter of abortion rights -- which makes him pro-abortion and not pro-life (anti-life). By adding support for birth control, free medical care during pregnancy or a comment about disliking abortion he remains pro-abortion.

Update:  One additional comment:  the Matthew 25 Network is attempting to hijack the term "pro-life" and apply a new meaning to it.  Perhaps this is consistent with their emergent theology.  Obama's rejection of the sanctity of human life before (and after birth) makes him, by definition, anti-life.

I think it’s time for the pro-life community to be outraged – a new website, Prolifeproobama.com, seeks to redefine the pro-life cause in order to attract Christian pro-lifers to the Obama camp. Of course, we know this is a gross misrepres... Read More

The "Born Alive" attacks are debunked and recycled attacks from Alan Keyes in the 2004 Senate race. The only thing Obama did wrong was get confused in an explanation of why he voted down one particular 2003 version of BAIPA after more than 7 different versions of the bill were introduced in the Illinois General Assembly. He, and the rest of the Dems on his HHS committee, voted down that 2003 version because of generally accepted concerns that it could negatively affect a woman’s right to choose in Illinois.

Obama campaign spokesman Tommy Vietor has said that Obama would have voted for the 2005 Illinois bill if he had been a state legislator when it was considered because it addressed the concerns present in the 2003 version, much as he says he would have supported the federal bill, which wouldn’t have impacted non-existent federal law.

These are tired and desperate attacks.

Additionally, it has been proven that making abortion illegal will not decrease its incidence. Cheap contraception, fact-based age-appropriate sex education and social support for mothers and young children like day care and health care will really decrease abortion. These types of policies, supported by Obama and Biden, make them the real pro-life candidates in the sense that they actually care about the people involved in these decisions and will take a stand to make it easier for them to realistically choose life.

Obviously, Obama isn't Pro-Life. He has said so.

This isn't all that I have to say.

That's ironic since Obama and Biden has consistently voted for against most major abortion restrictions. Also, the present institution of Roe v. Wade hasn't radically reduced abortion at all. Therefore, federalizing abortion hasn't made a radical lowering of abortion rates. What we are witnessed is the high levels of STDs, and other problems. Obama voted against the PBA ban, when many doctors testified that the save the life of the mother exception wasn't needed in the law. Also, age appropriate voluntariy sexual education, care for mother, etc. are common sense measures that neither major candidate opposes. These things will decrease abortion, but I don't see any evidence that Obama and Biden offered other real common ground solutions with the Pro-Life side at all. Obama has stated that having a child is a punishment and it's beyond his pay grade to determine when life begin. A science textbook says that conception creates a zygote with 26 chromosomes typically, has DNA, it grows, etc. making it apart of human life.

The good news is that the Hyde Amendment was passed which saved tons of unborn lives to be lost. Obama opposed SCHIP having pro-life legislation in it. Obama voted against an amendment to expand the program to include pregnant women and their unborn children. Obama supports forcing taxpayers to fund abortion and his supporters want the Hyde Amendment repealed. The FOCA will invalidate potentially any pro-life legislation nationally (Planned Parenthood Federation of America admits to this). Many pro-life laws have decreased abortions. Not to mention we have much more abortions now than before Roe was created in 1973. That's a fact. You can obfuscate all you want, the BAIPA was voted down by Obama on many occasions. In 2003, there was the BAIPA amended bill. Obama voted yes on the Amendment that made the Illinois version identical to the federal bill. Yet, he then voted no on the amended bill. The state amended bill says nothing pro or con on Roe v. Wade (Some pro lifers believe that the amended version was nearly identical to the federal version). Even if it were anti-Roe, abortion has nothing to do with the right to choice. It has to do with the elimination of choices the unborn baby has in their lives. Abortion eliminates choices period. It's the destructive act of destroying human beings limb from limb. It's the act of shedding innocent blood. Abortion actually disrupts the natural reproduction process of a woman causing tons of evil side effects toward women (from depression, sexual dysfunction, and to death in some cases. No abortion is perfect). Roe is the epitome of the federal government ruling over the abortion issue violating the rights of the unborn. I can't believe I need to write this since Obama is the most pro-abortion major Presidential candidate in American history. McCain isn't perfect on this issue (that's why I will vote for a Third party candidate), but disinformation about Obama's abortion record ought to be refuted. Also, people from across the political spectrum care about decisions women make. It's really tired to proclaim Obama or McCain as somehow really Pro-Life when the opposite is true. It's a streotype to assume that one set of people does care about helping women. It's just that we as humans don't act in anyway we want. Laws prohibiting rape, murder, and other bad choices exist inhibiting human behavior in some instance. Hence, It isn't extremist at all to advocate pro-life laws in the USA. No, the pro-life movement will not stop and we will not quit.

If the goal truly is to reduce the number of abortions in the this country then I think the pro-life and the pro-choice sides need to agree to disagree and put more energy into preventing unintended pregnancies that may result in abortion.
Obama talks about finding such common ground."I think all of us agree that it(abortion) is a wretching choice for anybody to think about>"
..."We can certainly agree on the fact that we should be doing everything we can to avoid unwanted pregnancies that might even lead to someone to consider having an abortion."
What is it that we really want to spend our time on? Arguing and trying to legislate morality or working for the common goal of preventing teen pregnancy, supporting young mothers, and really reducing the abortion numbers. I think Obama is the candidate that help achieve this.

So what's with this group that says Obama is pro-life?

I don't know what's up with this group. Obama never said he's pro-life in the campaign at all overtly. We can agree on common ground policies though.

According to ProChoiceAmerica

Voting Record:
Sen. Obama received the following scores on NARAL Pro-Choice America's Congressional Record on Choice.
2007: 100 percent
2006: 100 percent
2005: 100 percent

Anyone who scores a 100% rating from NARAL is not pro-life.

Hussein Obama is Pro what? This revalation makes me laugh. Just shows you what lengths a politician (or his minion) will go to, to get votes. I also heard another funny one, Obama is Pro Gun Rights.
Your not supposed to remember their VOTING RECORDS, its what theys say at the moment.
The really sad thing is nobody knows who the Real Obama is.
We dont have to agree on Socialism, if it walks like a duck... !!!

MCCAIN ROCKS MY SOCKS!!!! ABORTION IS WRONG AND IS MURDER!!!!!!!
