Here are excerpts of an email just sent out by this new offshoot of AUL:
The background to the ad campaign is an important civil case against Planned Parenthood in Ohio, in which AUL is involved. Planned Parenthood is being sued by the parents of a 14-year-old girl who was impregnated by her 22-year-old soccer coach. When the girl's coach took her to have an abortion, Planned Parenthood turned a blind eye when he pretended to be a family member for the parental notification requirements and gave her the abortion. When the parents eventually found out, the soccer coach was convicted of SEVEN counts of sexual battery and served three years in prison.This story and others like it are the reason AUL has spent over thirty years putting into place common-sense abortion legislation, like parental notification requirements that protect young girls from sexual abuse.
As AUL supporters, you know what many Americans do not: The Freedom of Choice Act (FOCA) would eliminate parental notification laws and every other limit on abortion. And Senator Obama promised the Planned Parenthood Action Fund in 2007, "The first thing I'd do as President is sign the Freedom of Choice Act." As a response to that promise, today AUL Action is releasing an Open Letter to Senator Obama asking him why he supports the Freedom of Choice Act (FOCA). In our letter, we talk about the family in Ohio -- it is a story that needs to be told.

Too many pro-life Americans still don't know about the threat posed to pro-life legislation by the FOCA bill. In this last week of the campaign, we'd like to see parental involvement laws return to the discussion, and that's what these ads will do. I would urge AUL Action to do all that they can to help elect pro-life Republicans to the House and Senate.
Holding as many Republican seats as possible in the Congress, but especially the all-important Senate seats, is vital to having any hope of protecting unborn children from violence in the future.
Joe, I absolutely agree that it is extremely important to elect pro-life Republicans. While I'm not sure advocacy of legislators (as opposed to legislation) is exactly within AUL Action's purview (http://www.aulaction.org/about/), I know that HuckPAC is designed specifically to do exactly what you are proposing: promoting pro-life, pro-family legislators at all levels of government across America. This seems pointless... Obama cannot sign what congress does not vote through, and with the democratic majority so slim they havn't a hope of getting together the near-unaminous support they would need to overcome republican opposition.
Unless I'm missing something, unanimity is not required to pass a law. That aside, the Democratic majority may very well become filibuster-proof if enough hangers-on can ride in on Obama's coat tails. Of course, this is assuming that Obama is elected president, something that I can still hope will not come to pass.
Now that Obama has won the election, we have been promised that he will try to get FOCA passed 1st thing- or at least that's what he said. He has a lot of promises to keep and a lot more urgent things to deal with in the minds of his advisors than keeping a promise to kill more babies. However, two things:
1) He has a history of aligning himself with those who will get him where he wants to go and then denying his understanding of what they represent, i.e. Jeremiah Wright, Bill Ayers. He is an opportunist at best. So, when he meets with so much opposition in congress - remember he was the only one who voted for some of the proposals that FOCA represents - he may say that he didn't have an appropriate appreciation for the content of this bill and break his promise to PP. I don't think he has enough integrity to live up to his promises. He got what he wanted from them...campaign money. Of course,then there's Oprah who has the power to affect his reputation if he doesn't keep his promise(?).
2) He WILL meet with much opposition to this bill. He is the only one with a cold enough heart to vote against the partial birth aborion ban and infant born alive protection. I think he will have to sell his soul completely to get these people to all vote for this bill as it's written now.
I guess we will see how it plays out but I think it would be GREAT to snatch the effects of this law right out from under him and PP. We change the hearts and minds of the public and there will be no need for his laws.
So many of us pro-lifers are very sad and fearful of what could happen in this world if we start to kill even more babies. I urge all of us who care about this to spend a little time in prayer EVERY DAY to BEG OUR LORD to grace Obama with a CONVERSION OF HEART. We must stand up & speak out against FOCA, but please PRAY FOR THIS MAN!!!!!!!! MIRACLES CAN HAPPEN & WHAT A BEAUTIFUL THING THAT WOULD BE!!!! PRAISE GOD!!!
