The fact that NY Governor Elliot Spitzer may have bought sex from high priced prostitutes may help to explain why New York State ditched abstinence education programs last October - after all, prostitution and abstinence don't mix.
Instead of dropping abstinence education programs, maybe Governor Spitzer should have participated in one.
Gov. Spitzer's situation is representative of the crisis our culture has been experiencing for several decades - the separation of sex from procreation and marriage. Part of the problem is that people who practice this lifestyle do not want to change the culture, but instead, want to preserve the status quo.
What's different about Governor Spitzer's situation is that he is in a position to effect a cultural turnaround by encouraging abstinence - but because of his own sexual beliefs and practices, instead he only serves to strengthen the culture of death by dropping abstinence until marriage programs and by trying to enshrine abortion as the right above all rights in New York State.
In light of this problem, I'm not so surprised that Gov. Spitzer is such a hard hearted abortion supporter. After all, ripping babies apart is just the price to be paid for sex without responsibility or commitment.
Governor Spitzer is not the first or last public figure to be caught up in a sex scandal while protecting the abortion industry. He joins the Kansas Attorney General Paul Morrison who recently resigned amid allegations that he had an affair, and who tried to use that affair to influence an investigation of late term abortionist George Tiller.
The sexual lifestyle of these two, as well as many others, depends on the availability of abortion, so it's no wonder they do everything in their power to protect the industry.
Governor Spitzer's situation calls for change - but not the false change espoused by presidential candidates, but a change in how we judge and elect these candidates.
Instead of asking candidates if they favor comprehensive sexuality education or abstinence until marriage programs, maybe we should be asking them if they support, via public policy and personal behavior, moving the culture towards one that discourages both promiscuity and abortion... Maybe then the public will see what kind of people are running for office, and what will they do once they get there..
