From across the pond...
BBC News notes here that abortion could "become a big factor in the [U.S.] 2008 election," especially for Republicans.
While the BBC analysis suggests that social issues like abortion might play a lesser role on voters' decisions than in the 2004 election, this statement on Republicans' priorities is noteworthy:
An August 2007 Pew study found that 43% of Republican and Republican-leaning voters said social issues would be "very important" in deciding who to vote for in 2008.
Thus, the BBC concludes that "Abortion is an issue likely to have a far greater impact on the Republican nominating race than the Democratic contest."
Maybe that's why we heard little about pro-choice Republican presidential hopeful Rudy Giuliani in last night's caucus in Iowa.
Perhaps that's why the most pro-life of the GOP pack, Mick Huckabee, won there.
