Monday night, Sean Hannity interviewed Dr. James Dobson on the recent news that many conservative leaders may support a third-party candidate if Rudy Giuliani is put forth as the GOP presidential candidate. This third-party business is a huge deal.
Hannity makes no bones about supporting Giuliani (an issue for another day). So I was not surprised he took the "lessor of two evils" approach with Dobson, i.e., if we don't accept Giuliani, we'll certainly get Hillary.
Dobson responded not just with solid moral arguments but two solid political arguments:
1. It's way too early to try to force conservatives - again - to compromise.2. Who says Giuliani can beat Hillary?
Good people I know are warning against a conservative split from the GOP, and Dobson
acknowledged the danger. But for many reasons, I'm open to following conservative leaders like Dobson and Tony
Perkins down this path, if they so decide....

Any candidate whose view of justice stoops to the low-level of Giuliani's has no chance at winning my vote despite his political party. I agree w/Dobson - at this early hour it's hard to understand why any pro-life conservative would not hold the Republican party's feet to the fire and demand a pro-life candidate. Although Dobson and other conservatives are being hammered for even suggesting the prospect of a third party the responsibility of a conservative split rests on the shoulders of the GOP leadership who are apparently willing to exchange their pro-life values for a charismatic social liberal.
If Giuliani wins the primaries, I will will be voting third party. I have no respect for the man. I think that Ron Paul will run third party after losing the Republican nomination and will find himself with a significant portion of the votes come election time.
If the Repubs provide us with a pro-abort, pro-gay person, I will be voting Democratic. My entire family is saying that, too, and we are considered to be the Republican base.
This is an email I sent to Gary Bauer
Mr. Bauer:
You, Tony Perkins, Mark Demoss and Richard Land are seriously compromising Christian principles and values for a perceived political win. At best I think you will assure a win for Democrats.
I will not compromise.
Christians should be involved in the political process, they should have influence but my friend we do not abandon our principles to win politically. When we do, we lose, because we become what we are opposed to.
For the first time in a long time, we have a Christian man driven by principle, a man of strong character, a man who lives what he believes, a man we can trust, a man who by his very nature can restore dignity and trust of the Office of President, a man who has more experience than any other candidate, a man who is electable.
And you have turned your back on him and endangered my family.
Count the cost, my friend. You and your co-leaders failure to stand behind Mike may have cost not just the election in 2008 but will cost you your leadership position with me and thousands upon thousands of others.
I think you guys need to get the message:
We want Uncompromising Leadership.
I also think you and the others should apologize to Bill Clinton. Apparently Character is not the issue.
"it is better to trust in the Lord, than to put confidence in man. It is better to trust in the Lord. than to put confidence in princes." Psalm 118:8-9
Praying for God's intervention in the hearts of our most promenent Christian Leaders,

I, like others already having commented, am a staunch Conservative. I cannot, nor will not, support someone from the GOP for the GOP's sake, if they're not Pro-life, Pro-marriage, etc, then they will not get my vote, nor my wife's or son's. We are doing our best to get the word out about Ron Paul. I have been a Pat Buchanan supporter and Mr. Paul is cut from the same cloth. He's an ob/gyn who has personally delivered over 4,000 babies and KNOWS and PROCLAIMS, Life BEGINS at Conception! He has been gaining huge ground on the internet and was tied with John McCain in the 3rd quarter in fund raising. He is drawing support from Republicans, Democrats and Independents! He CAN defeat either Hillary/Barrack/Rudy/Mitt, especially since they will pull from the left and Mr. Paul can pull from the Center and Right! People are tired of "politics, as usual" and want a new Candidate. Ron Paul is that candidate...you can see many of his speeches/debates on youtube.com just type in Ron Paul and get informed!
