On the Portland State University campus I am considered more radical than the socialists who have no qualms in declaring their hatred of free speech--they actually say that groups like the Genocide Awareness Project (GAP) should not be allowed to have displays on public property. No, not because they have grotesque pictures of abortion, but because of the pro-life message that they convey.
Needless to say, I generally ignore these socialist pro-choicers. Pro-choicers come in all shapes and colors, though at Portland State the vocal ones all tend to have the same features--physical and emotional. But when I participated in GAP last spring, something struck me.
Many of the dozens of pro-choicers I debated/discussed abortion with would all bring up the same tired point--and I'm not talking about the bleating of "rape and incest". It was the question of, "What do you do to help children already born?"
While my fleshly response would be one of sarcasm ("Oh, I do the same thing pro-choicers do to help unborn children: chop them up into little pieces."), by the grace of God I simply answered the question: My parents have fostered over 40 born children, at the time I was working with emotionally troubled teenagers in a public high school, and as soon as I get my degree I plan on fostering high-school boys with emotional and anger issues. This isn't bad, considering I'm a single 21 year-old college student.
Many of the NARAL-intern types were visibly annoyed. That wasn't the answer they were expecting. Sothen they would go into the rape and incest mantra.
But afterward I was thinking: even if every single child in the world was in a happy family, NARAL would still be for abortion. All of these "reasons" to get an abortion that they present are fronts. This insane group of women and single college-aged men don't care about born children more than people who are against slaughtering children in the womb (aka, pro-lifers). They simply exploit those children the same way they exploit victims of "rape and incest": by making them a part of talking points that people mindlessly spout out when they come across someone who is "anti-choice".
Everyone could have health care. Everyone could have condoms and birth-control. Everyone could be making $45,000 per year. Everyone could be happy in life until that time when they "accidentally" get pregnant. NARAL and the majority of the spokespeople of the pro-choice movement would still be for abortion throughout all nine months of pregnancy because Sally wouldn't be able to fit into her prom dress.
No, the perfect world to the pro-choice movement is not where every child is a wanted child and taken care of. It's a world in which women have absolute freedom to kill their children.
