Pro-Life Wisconsin Juneau Co. and area Knights of Columbus councils will welcome Joe Scheidler, National Director of Pro-Life Action League, this Saturday, October 14th, at 7:00 p.m. at the Mauston High School Theater, 800 Grayside Ave., Mauston, WI, for a free presentation to the public titled “An Evening with Joe Scheidler: Your Right to Free Speech.” Admission is free to the general public with free refreshments provided.
Joseph M. Scheidler is National Director of the Pro-Life Action League, a national pro-life educational and activist organization headquartered in Chicago . The League is dedicated to saving lives through activism and to bringing the abortion issue to the public via the media. Joe Scheidler has been credited with defining pro-life direct action, and has been dubbed by some “the father of pro-life activism.”
Syndicated columnist Patrick Buchanan aptly described Joe Scheidler as “the Green Beret of the pro-life movement.” Joe is a recognized expert on the abortion culture, fetal experimentation, sidewalk counseling, the spiritual dimension of pro-life activism, the responsibility of the church to fight abortion, battling the courts and the need for a return to morality. He is the author of the classic book on methods of fighting abortion, CLOSED: 99 Ways to Stop Abortion, and has produced the videos Meet the Abortion Providers and Abortion: The Inside Story, featuring former abortionists now telling the truth about what goes on inside abortion clinics.
Joe Scheidler was the focal point of the Supreme Court case, Now v. Scheidler, in which abortion advocates tried to use racketeering laws to thwart pro-life protesters from peacefully sitting-in at abortion clinics. Joe Scheidler appeared before the Supreme Court an unprecedented three times. The Court ruled – for the second time – in 2006 that using RICO laws against peaceful pro-life protesters clearly went well beyond the intended scope of the law; however, the case continues to be litigated to this day.
The event will be emceed by Juneau County District Attorney Scott Southworth and will include a special introduction by State Representative Sheryl Albers. Pro-Life Wisconsin State Director Peggy Hamill will also be in attendance and available for comment or interview.
