C.S. Lewis once said,
Hope means a continual looking forward to the eternal world. It does not mean that we are to leave the present world as it is. If you read history you will find that Christians who did most for the present world were just those who thought most of the next...It is since Christians have largely ceased to think of the other world that they have become so ineffective in this. Aim at Heaven and you will get earth 'thrown in'; aim at earth and you will get neither."Over the last few generations, Christians have been duped into believing that they do not belong, nor should they engage in politics. However, there was a time when Christians were the managers of this country, ensuring its freedom by keeping its laws in accordance with God’s laws.
Jon Jay, president of the Continental Congress and later appointed Chief Justice of the New York Supreme Court stated, “Providence has given to our people the choice of their rulers, and it is the duty, as well as the privilege and interest of our Christian nation, to select and prefer Christians for their rulers. Thee Americans are the first people whom Heaven has favored with an opportunity of deliberating upon and choosing the forms of government under which they should live.”
Sadly, this understanding of a Christian duty has been long lost. As a result, our laws are void of the natural law of God. At one time our county enforced the natural law that a man and a woman may not kill their offspring. Today, she may kill her offspring for any reason, as often as she chooses, and at any stage of development. We now live in a culture opposed to God.
In 1800, William Paterson, U.S. Supreme Court Justice affirmed: “When the righteous rule, the people rejoice, when the wicked rule, the people groan.” Proverbs 29:2.
Today, the wicked rule our country; however, this did not happen by accident.
Typically, only 1 in 4 Christians will vote. For Iowa, that may result in the difference between a governor who is endorsed by Planned Parenthood, an abortion chain, or a governor endorsed by the Iowa Right to Life.
Noah Webster said, “When you become entitled to exercise the right of voting for public officers, let it be impressed on your mind that God commands you to choose for rulers, “just men who will rule in the fear of God.”
It can be said that candidates who are pro-life have chosen to follow the natural law of God.
