The text below is from an e-mail from Right to Life of Michigan. The original press release is available online here.
The day after Right to Life of Michigan issued a press release exposing false and plagiarized information on the web site of the Michigan Citizens for Stem Cell Research and Cures (MCSCRC), the web site filled with plagiarized information "is temporarily down for maintenance."
MCSCRC is a new advocacy group which favors overturning Michigan's law against killing human embryos for research and wants to legalize human cloning for research. They introduced themselves with a press conference featuring U.S. Senator Carl Levin and Congressman Joe Schwartz on September 19 and claimed they wanted to educate Michigan's citizens about stem cell research.Right to Life of Michigan reviewed the web site of MCSCRC (www.stemcellresearchformichigan.com) and found that large portions of the web site were copy and pasted word for word from other web sites which weren't cited as sources. Some of the plagiarized information contained assertions which were clearly false.
Board members of the MCSCRC includes researchers from a number of universities in Michigan, members of a variety of research advocacy groups and Grand Rapids' Mayor George Heartwell, among others. Their advisory committee includes Governor Jennifer Granholm, U.S. Senator Carl Levin, Congressman Joe Schwarz, and State Representative Andrew Meisner.
