You’ve read the news that investment guru Warren Buffett, the world’s second wealthiest man, has decided to donate 80% of his fortune to the foundation set up by Microsoft founder Bill Gates and his wife. "I'm not an enthusiast for dynastic wealth, particularly when 6 billion others have much poorer hands than we do in life," Buffett told a NY audience.
"I love it when I'm around the country club, and I hear people talking about the debilitating effects of a welfare society," he said. "At the same time, they leave their kids a lifetime and beyond of food stamps. Instead of having a welfare officer, they have a trust officer. And instead of food stamps, they have stocks and bonds."
I’m certainly impressed by Buffett's statements and actions, particularly considering the history of the rich and powerful. A lot more could be said about American heirs that destroy themselves after receiving their parent’s wealth or Buffett's equating government welfare with private inheritance.
However, my reason for posting about Buffett's action is the unfortunate fact that the Gates Foundation is pro-abortion. LifeNews reports:
The donation causes huge concerns for pro-life advocates as the Gates Foundation has given the Planned Parenthood Federation of America abortion business almost $12.5 million since 1998, including funds to persuade teenagers to support abortion and to lobby the United Nations to advance pro-abortion proposals. The Gates Foundation does support many worthy causes in addition to organizations that encourage and enable the killing of unborn babies. It would be refreshing if the Foundation were to list Crisis Pregnancy Centers among its list of recipients rather than those involved in the business of abortion.
The Gates foundation has also given nearly $21 million to the International Planned Parenthood abortion business over the last seven years. The funds have gone to promote abortions in third-world nations and to set up pro-abortion family planning centers in South America, Africa and eastern European nations.Bill Gates and his wife have also spent millions promoting abortion closer to home.
Their foundation has given nearly $2 million to Planned Parenthood of Central Washington and Planned Parenthood of Western Washington to fund abortion centers. The Gates Foundation also gave the Planned Parenthood Federation of Canada more than $1.3 million to promote abortions there.
LifeNews Suggests the following: Contact the Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation and urge it to stop supporting Planned Parenthood and abortion. Contact: Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation, PO Box 23350, Seattle, WA 98102, (206) 709-3140, info@gatesfoundation.org

Updates:
Buffett is giving the Gates Foundation more than $30 billion in Berkshire Hathaway stock at the rate of about $1.5 billion a year. But the donation comes with some important requirements: The Gates Foundation must distribute Buffett's money in the year that it's donated. And each year's donation will be made only if Bill or Melinda Gates is alive and actively involved in the foundation.

Why is it that rich people think you're doing poor people a favor by taking a spay-and-neuter attitude toward them? Does the IRS come in and remove a key brain lobe when your income reaches a certain level?
Christina,
The IRS must remove that brain lobe. How else can you explain George W. Bush, Bill Frist, etc.?

As to pro-abortion, its pro-choice and if you were to read the literature, abortion is the last resort. Much like war in Iraq was the last resort. No, bad example. That was the only resort.
Mike
I can't possibly concoct a more conservative bias towards this story. The total sum of monies donated to Planned Parenthood by the charity represents roughly 0.5% of the charity's total assets. Meanwhile millions of lives are being saved by the charity's donations to fight disease.
Stop the dishonesty and report the truth.
If you want a liberal bias, then read just about every other newspaper in the country. Your saying that several million dollars is only half a percent does little else than describe how much money they've leeched from the government and other sources. They make a huge enough profit off of dead babies to not need anyone else's money...
