A recent study concluded that over half of teenagers who take pledges of virginity rescind those pledges within a year:
Reported in the June issue of the American Journal of Public Health, a study conducted on more than 14,000 students found that 52 percent of those who took virginity pledges retracted those pledges within a year.Slice of Laodicea rightly comments that mass morality pledges not accomplish much if the teenager doesn't actually have a compelling reason to believe virginity is to be desired.
Non-believing young people may remain chaste before marriage for pragmatic reasons, but ultimately the motivation for teen purity rises above the level of just avoiding disease or pregnancy.
