Pro-Life Newcomer Wins Primary

State senator Duane Sutton voted against South Dakota�s abortion ban that was passed by state lawmakers during this year's legislative session. Yesterday, the veteran incumbent was defeated by Isaac Latterell in the Republican primary. Latterell believes his pro-life stance was a contributing factor.

Lawmakers who opposed the statewide ban on virtually all abortions that the state legislature approved earlier this year did so at their own peril. Four Republican state senators who opposed the ban were defeated Tuesday in primary elections there while those who supported the ban were successful.
