Nebraskans are circulating a petition right now to amend their state constitution to elevate food and water care to a basic, constitutionally protected right. The Nebraskans for Humane Care Committee is sponsoring this effort, which has been unanimously endorsed by the board of Nebraskans United for Life.
Noted bioethicist Wesley J. Smith helped draft the language of the amendment, which is also supported by the Schindler family.
Nebraska has a very high signature requirement to place an initiative like this on the ballot--10% of all registered voters in the state must sign the petition! However, petition circulators themselves can live in any state.
Helping with the petition drive is a great way to support this important cause. Please spread the word now, since the deadline for filing the petition is coming right up on July 7.
