LifeNews: A Louisiana state Senate committee approved legislation Wednesday that would ban nearly all abortions in the state. The measure contains only a life of the mother exception and lawmakers approved it unanimously and sent it on to the full Senate.
The bill's chief sponsor, Senator Ben Nevers, is a Democrat. LifeNews quotes his response to call for a rape and incest exception:
"I am very deeply concerned about women who have been raped, or been involved in incest. And my heart goes out to them," he said. However, he said abortion of babies in such cases is "just another crime."
