Bob Schindler, father of Terri Schiavo, has joined Kevin Fobbs, President of the National Urban Policy Action Council (NuPac) and host of "The Kevin Fobbs Show" on News Talk 1400 WDTK in Detroit, Michigan, to announce the launch of a national initiative to annually honor the memory of Terri Schiavo. Terris Day is a celebration of the Culture of Life as well as celebrating the woman who sacrificed her life for this cause.
Supporters of "Terris Day -- A Celebration of the Culture of Life" will seek to sign up 1 million pledges from all 50 states as well as from international supporters in the hopes of establishing March 31 as a national day of remembrance. The pledge drive will culminate on May 12th with an official ceremony, prayer vigil, and presentation of a ceremonial pledge sheet and check representing funds from supporters from around the globe.
"Terri Schiavos legacy has taught us that life is precious and should be protected," said Mr. Fobbs. "We are asking Americans to take a moment of their time to honor Terris memory as well as what former Pope John Paul II called the "Culture of Life" by pledging the following six simple things:"
- Obtain a Living Will -- View The Will to Live Project at www.terrisfight.org.
- Encourage state officials to establish March 31st as Terris Day.
- Encourage Hollywood and the media to embrace Culture of Life stories.
- Support Culture of Life events.
- Support the creation of professional volunteer networks to assist families dealing with disability and neurological issues.
- Support the Terri Schindler Schiavo Foundation (TSSF) in establishing a neurological health care facility.
One year ago the nation was emotionally torn apart with grief because of the life and untimely death of Terri Schiavo. Some called it a pursuit of the culture of death, however Terris very life stood for the culture of life. Now a nation that still grieves in its heart will respectfully honor the life of Terri Schiavo by pledging support for an annual national day of remembrance on March 31 as Terris Day -- A Celebration of the Culture of Life.
NuPac and "The Kevin Fobbs Show" are embarking on this effort not only to support the Terris Fight Organization and the Terri Schindler Schiavo Foundation, but also to join the hundreds of thousands -- if not millions -- of Americans and supporters around the world who would use this day to focus on individual, family as well as community events that celebrate the Culture of Life.
On May 12, 2006, in Southfield, Michigan, thousands of supporters from around Michigan, the Midwest and the nation will gather to present Terris parents and siblings with a gift of signatures as well as financial support so that they may continue the advocacy for life.
