Stephen G. Peroutka, a Maryland attorney and chairman of the National Pro- Life Action Center (NPLAC)—the uncompromising voice of pro-life America on Capitol Hill—will deliver the keynote speech at tonight’s 27th Annual Maryland Candlelight March for Life. The theme of tonight’s event is A New Vision to the Future: Maryland Without Roe, and the rally is expected to draw a large crowd of pro-lifers from around the metro area who will march through the streets of Annapolis to Lawyer’s Mall at the Statehouse.
Bobby Schindler, brother of Terri Schindler-Schiavo, will represent the entire Schindler family at tonight’s event. Terri’s parents, Bob and Mary Schindler, were also scheduled to attend, but cannot due to illness. Pro-life legislators from around Maryland are also expected to participate.
Today's meeting is timely in that if follows Gov. Mike Rounds (R-S.D.) signing of the South Dakota Women’s Health and Human Life Protection Act into law. In response, Peroutka states, "I am very happy that Gov. Rounds signed this bill. It is a rare display of political courage in our present day. I believe the people of South Dakota are doing exactly the right thing by passing this law. South Dakotans know that this will not end all abortion, but is the beginning of that process. This law will now have to pass the scrutiny of the state, federal and Supreme Courts. We are hopeful that it will, but even if it does not, it is absolutely worth trying."
"This law creates a platform for debate over the foundation of decriminalized abortion—Roe and Doe—that is not often afforded pro-lifers. We welcome the opportunity to expose the horrors of abortion and the culture of death."
