Canadian researchers said Friday they have uncovered a natural defense mechanism to Alzheimer's disease.Not surprisingly, it involves stem cells -- those derived from bone marrow.
In Alzheimer's patients, plaque forms in the brain, but the brain's resident immune cells, called microglia, can't fight off the substance. The plaque can then kill off the brain's neurons, or nerve cells.
However, microglia harvested from bone marrow stem cells do appear capable of defeating the plague, said researchers from the Faculty of Medicine at Université Laval and the research centre at Centre hospitalier universitaire de Québec, Canada.
Wait. This can't be right. You mean we could treat Alzheimer's without creating and destroying human embryos? I don't believe it. All the best stem cells have to come from embryos, they just have too...
The best way to counter embryonic stem cell research is to offer an alternative and provide financing to perform the research. Free enterpise will most likely provide the majority of financing if the various treatments can be started in FDA clinical trials. I received treatment with cord blood stem cells in Mexico in December. Effects have noticed almost immediately and my condition continues to improve. All the money for this treatment was spent in a foreign country with foreign currency. No embryo was harmed. Prepare to see a economy develop around this therapy that may be unprecidented. And, if our idiot politicians do not begin to take a serious look at the need for funding it we will suffer significant economic efects. The baby boomers who are the most affluent generation to retire in our history will not pass up effective treatments for thier illnesses. So the U.S. better wake up and smell the money flowing out of our countries and begin funding adult stem cell research before it is too late.
