"Although "no compromises" rhetoric and bloody photos may rally the troops, what pro-lifers need, as their position strengthens, is the wisdom to increase their numbers"
Well golly gee and aww schucks Ms. Daily, you mean we have it all wrong? We must just be a bunch of back woods yeehaa Pro-Lifers who are just stubborn and only want to have things our way. You mean all humans aren't really humans and don't deserve to live?
Which ones will you pick to live?
What do you think a compromise means Ms. Daily? It would mean turning our backs and allowing human beings to die because in your words, we should have "the wisdom to strengthen" our numbers.
"The rhetoric summoning thousands of Pittsburgh pro-lifers to next Monday's "March For Life" in Washington, D.C., is almost as aggressive as the graphic abortion photos I saw Friday on Liberty Avenue."
We are not the radicals Ms. Daily. The radicals are the ones supporting the legal killing of almost 4,000 human beings a day. The radicals are the ones doing the killing. You may not like our "rhetoric", but all we are doing is telling and showing you the truth, but like it was so dramitically said in a movie not long ago, "you can't handle the truth!".
I like how you phrased this:
"While I agree with the cause and respect such passionate commitment, these more extreme words and actions might be needlessly counterproductive -- especially at a time when substantial progress toward protecting the unborn may finally be at hand. Pro-lifers should consider the example of Samuel Alito."
Yes, please, let's consider Samuel Alito. A man whose wife was driven out of the interrogation by rudeness, insensitivity and grandstanding by Pro-Abortion leaders. Alito dared to speak in support of life years ago and was made out to be the anti-Christ for doing so.
What extreme words were you speaking of?
"A press release announcing this year's march included the words "No exceptions! No compromise!", while the 6-foot-high placards with bloody fetuses galvanize Downtown passers-by in an unintended way."
A hush falls over the room
"No exceptions! No Compromise!"
This is what you find extreme?
Not the fact that abortions kill human beings? Not the fact that abortions are performed by ripping the unborn to pieces, just to have them reassembled on the table to make sure they got all the parts? Not late-term abortions which kill children who are on the edge of being born?
No, none of that is extreme compared to someone who stands up to the abortionists and says, "no, not one single abortion is okay".
And then you have this to say:
"While I agree with the cause and respect such passionate commitment"
What is "the cause"? Is it to save some of the children and not others? Should we just fight part of the battle...perhaps the one we might win if we just shut up about the rest of the stuff that you think Americans don't want to hear or see?
Some more words of wisdom from Ms. Daily:
"Pro-life Pittsburghers who respond to this call and board buses for Washington next Monday should remember history. Many compromises were necessary before this country ratified the 13th Amendment outlawing slavery -- a frequent analogy for the anti-abortion movement."
I always find it interesting how people get this one all wrong. They compare the "compromises" to get rid of slavery but do you still see slavery anywhere? How about just a few water fountains reserved for white people? Maybe they didn't get rid of slavery in one fell-swoop, but it was wrong and all of slavery had to be challenged, all the time, not just some of it.
"The "strict constructionists" on the pro-life side need to recognize that flawed practices tainted constitutional ideals from the get-go,"
"The "strict constructionists"? How about the people who believe that all human life is valuable and human beings shouldn't be killed in the womb like unwanted animals?
I met a woman at a metro stop protest a couple of weeks ago. She was very outspoken and would challenge anyone with statements like "how do you feel about abortion?", or "only big babies kill little babies" and "Pick on someone your own size". Some so-called "men" would get so jacked up at her I thought some would turn and punch her, but she just kept right on going.
You agree with our "cause" Ms. Daily? Then do more then write about it, and decide how much abortion is okay with you.
Our numbers will increase, with or without you. Which side of history will you be on?
United we stand - Divided they die - Pass it on
