The battle over the Supreme Court nomination of Judge Samuel A. Alito has gotten predictably ugly with the escalation of personal attacks by national liberal organizations. Captain Ed notes the desperation and irony in the anti-Alito forces decision to put into practice their well-tuned method of character assassination:
MoveOn and its allies want to fight Alito's nomination, for which the ABA notes he is eminently qualified, with half-truths and outright lies. And yet these people want us to question Alito's character?Connie Mackey, Vice President of Government Affairs for Family Research Council, notes,
In predictable fashion, they fired up the same old tired rhetoric and applied it to Judge Alito, just as they would to any nominee put forward by a conservative president. Even when the liberal leaning American Bar Association unanimously finds Judge Alito 'well-qualified' for the job, Kim Gandy and Co. remain obstinate and entrenched in their defense of an extreme abortion-on-demand agenda. While the hypocritical attacks by pro-abortion extremists on Judge Alito are expected, there is little doubt that their message will be carried by some in the Senate.
