What is the Clone the Truth campaign? I have resolved that every time I see cloning or embryonic stem cell research misrepresented, I will write the offender and politely inform them of their errors and ask that they print a correction. The argument that separates opponents and supporters of all kinds of stem cell research is whether a cell is a person or not. The beliefs of opponents of SCNT and ESCR seem to be faith-based and I am wondering why I must continue to suffer because of someone else's faith which I do not share. Jehovah's Witnesses to not demand that everyone else forego blood tranfusions. Christian Scientists do not require me to forsake medical treatment. I think this is an unconstitutional violation of separation of church and state. I would support all stem cell research even if I was not an ovarian cancer survivor and ten year Parkinson's Disease prisoner. I do not expect a cure in my lifetime, but it will never happen at all if the religious right doesn't get out of the petri dishes of scientists.
Rayilyn,
I am happy that you have survived cancer, and sorry that you are suffering from Parkinson's. If you do some research, you will find adult stem cells show more promise for curing Parkinson's than do embryonic stem cells which so far only to create cancer. I object to tax dollars going to funding embryonic stem cell research where cures are decades away when controvery-free research is already providing treatments. That is not faith-based, it is fact-based.
Also, an embryo is not a "cell" it is a complete organism, a human organism. The government should never fund the creation of human life and then mandate that it be destroyed. It is a slippery slope that ends in fetal farming and genetically enhanced human clones. Religion has nothing to do with it.
