StoptheACLU reports that the ACLU is opposing the nomination of Judge Samuel Alito.
The ACLU vote came after a special meeting of its 83-member national board this weekend, which has voted to oppose only two nominees in its 86-year history: Justice William Rehnquist, and Robert Bork.
The official announcment suggests:
... Judge Alito has written a series of troubling decisions on race, religion, and reproductive rights while sitting on the federal appeals court. These are precisely the issues in which Justice O'Connor often cast a critical swing vote on a closely divided Supreme Court.
They are calling their members to contact Congress to oppose Alito.

Speakers at Justice Sunday III suggested that people of faith and pro-lifers contact their U.S. Senators to counter the rising storm of attacks against Alito's character. Dr. James Dobson stated,
Do not believe it. This is a good man who will make wise decisions… I urge you to let your Senators know how you feel about this (contact info here and here). Tell them tow things:
- Do not filibuster
- Give this man the courtesy of an up or down vote
