This is the premise behind the God's Children program that we started at MarchTogether.com. It is time for churches to be more up front about the abortion issue and to challenge them to speak out against it.
Churches are too silent on this issue. I believe people in church are not being challenged enough to not have abortions. I'm not saying they should throw fire & brimstone out at the congregation, I'm saying the issue should be discussed and support should be made available for women in the church who might need help. Not only should the issue be discussed, I believe every church should also have a Pro-Life effort underway. This effort should not only be internal, it should also reach out to other churches to take up a Pro-Life banner.
"Kim Conroy, Sanctity of Human Life Director for Focus on the Family believes that it's time for churches to be proactive on this issue."
The most important place for us to challenge people to not have abortions is in the church, and our church leaders need to be leaders with the abortion issue. They shouldn't hide in fear of offending parisioners. Yes, we all have sinned and fall short of the glory of God & we don't want to "judge" others, but we should challenge each other to not kill our children. Say it in whatever touchy-feely way you want to say it, but say it!
Some say any sin is the same as any other sin in God's eyes. I agree, but I believe the sin of murder is one that must be prevented and people should be made aware of the fact that if they have an abortion they are killing their children. Even in our legal system we differenciate between stealing a candy bar and killing another person.
