AB 499, a ban on all human cloning, was passed by both houses of the Wisconsin State Legislature. Under this measure, neither public nor private entities would be allowed to engage in the creation of human clones which would be destroyed in the embryonic stage to obtain stem cells, or developed to a time equivalent to birth in an artificial womb or uterus and then destroyed to obtain organs, cells, and tissues.
“Wisconsin Right to Life urges Governor Doyle to sign AB 499 into law so that Wisconsin is recognized as a state that values human life and which will not tolerate the use of human lives as a commodity for experimentation purposes. The Governor knows that scientists are achieving fantastic medical treatment gains through use of adult stem cells – and no one has to die to achieve these real results for real people,” stated Barbara Lyons, Executive Director of Wisconsin Right to Life.
“It is now in the Governor’s hands. he Governor can show critical moral courage by stopping the practice of human cloning in Wisconsin before it begins.”
So, will Governor Doyle take a stand for human life and ban the creation human clones?
