Was The Last Abortion Clinic Biased?

I wanted to hold my opinions until I read my previous article and watched the show again. What I saw was almost exactly what I expected from the documentary, a rant against Pro-Life America. I was just happy to see that they played footage from Pro-Life people and used the statement "Pro-Life" as much as they did.

When speaking about Roe vs Wade they called abortion a "fundamental right" and did not mention the Fourteenth Amendment which mentions "right to life". Abortion was never labeled a "fundamental right", as a matter of fact, abortion was allowed based on a ruling of "right to privacy" and even then was only allowed in the 1st trimester of pregnancy, not all the way up to the day of delivery.
Since the intent of Roe vs Wade was to protect a woman's right to privacy only during the 1st trimester of pregnancy, this documentary was presenting a false argument from the very beginning.

The documentary did show the successful efforts of the Pro-Life movement to shut down clinics, but those clinics were ones that provided provided abortions after the first trimester right?

Here is the statement at the end of the show:

"There will be no abortion clinic in Mississippi that can perform abortions after the first trimester"

If there are other clinics or hospitals that provide abortions in the first trimester of pregnancy the name of the show "The Last Abortion Clinic" wasn't correct was it?

Oh well, facts don't bother them I guess. Let's move on.

Positives about the documentary:

> The interviews with various Pro-Life leaders and representatives seemed fair
> They used the term "Pro-Life" frequently
> Pro-Life organizations were given an opportunity to represent their views, direction and efforts
> More than 2,000 crisis pregnancy centers nationwide

Terri Herring, president of Pro-Life Mississippi, was interviewed for the film because of the successful pro-life efforts in her state. There were also many other interviews with Pro-Life leaders and state representatives, like Lt. Governor Amy Tuck and Americans United for Life.

"We have passed 15 pro-life laws in Mississippi that in some way restrict or prohibit abortion," Herring said. "But . . . even those are very minimal."

Commentator - Nonetheless, those minimal restrictions have reduced the number of abortion clinics from seven to one. Herring sees the conflict as David versus Goliath.

"I think right now the pro-life movement has the rock in the sling," she said. " I think the head of the giant is Roe vs Wade."

The negatives, and there are many:

Ad before (and for) the documentary - "Are anti-abortionists winning their battle against abortion around the country?"

Anti-abortion is used as a negative in the media.

The show presents the abortion issue as one where pro-abortion people are trying to protect women's rights and Pro-Life people are trying to take their rights away.

I stand behind my original opinion.

They did make it feel like a dark day was coming. There was a lot of emphasis on the religious side of the Pro-Life movement. They showed prayers, people bowed down, hands raised and more. To a Christian we look at that and don't think anything of it because those are the things we do. The media use this to portray us as Christian, religious, fundamentalist wackos.

They do discuss crisis-pregnancy centers but make it seem as if Pro-Life people don't care about a woman because we don't provide lifetime care for her and her children.

When talking about what a crisis pregnancy center provides, the announcer states "they offer abstinence only education courses (as the camera shows a minister in a show on the tv) but do not provide information on birth control or the morning after pill."

Excuse me PBS, but don't you know that birth control and the morning after pill both cause abortions? You probably do, but you don't even discuss those two at all in your documentary. You just bring them up as just another "choice" that extremists don't honor.

Continues... "nor do they offer pre or post-natal medical care".

Pro-aborts want us to provide lifetime care for any woman who might want to have an abortion as a condition for her not having the abortion. That way when we ask "are you nuts?" they can show how insensitive we are.

This is followed by the abortion clinic owner saying "The whole thing that is really problematic for me is the disconnect between the pre-born and the post-born. Some baby clothes and formula, and even a stroller isn't gonna help for that long. that's just not what is required to raise a child. (at this point the camera shows clothes, toys and a poster that says "Don't be afraid of tomorrow, God is already there", obviously trying to make it seem as if God isn't going to help for that long either) So many of these groups, so many of the hard-liners, when they say I'm Pro-Life, they mean I support the pregnancy in-utero, in the uterus. But I see so little sustenance and support for women and children, particularly poor women and children."

Abortion clinic owner - "Women are being hurt, women are suffering and no one's speaking out"

Tracy - A woman who was at least 2 months pregnant and was being interviewed by a counselor for an abortion said "I prayed about this decision and I found my answer from God". Her boyfriend was killed in an accident and this is her answer to her prayer as to what to do with his child.

The person interviewing her said "okay good" right after that.

Betty Thompson - Abortion clinic consultant - "Their tactics changed. They began to say 'we have political clout now..and so while we have this power, we are going to chip away at Roe vs Wade until the law is going to be on the books, but nobody will be able to access the service. Women are having the same type of obstacles placed before them in trying to access an abortion if they need one or if they choose one as they did before Roe vs Wade.'"

They talked about "extremists" who bombed clinics and killed abortion doctors but didn't mention the pain and suffering of children killed in the womb, or the 45 million human beings who have been killed. At the end of where they were talking about how clinics were bombed & abortion doctors were killed, they panned a shot of a man kneeling in prayer over a sign that says "Killing baby killers is justifiable homicide". The words that went with that pan shot were "while a few extremists still pursue those tactics".

Quote from Kathryn Kolbert - A pro-choice attorney

"States are not free to restrict abortion or impede a woman's ability to get an abortion in the first trimester".

Again, this show wasn't about the first trimester.

PBS did not mention the 14th Amendment or the "Right to Life" which is the cornerstone of the entire Pro-Life movement.

An author named William Saletan, who is Slate's national correspondent was interviewed. He said "we might find out in the parental notification case that John Roberts doesn't care about the health exception, in which case he will have to uphold the federal partial birth abortion ban as is."

The whole "health exception" thing that pro-aborts add to legislation everywhere is a ruse. It is meant to make it seem as if Pro-Life people don't care about women or a women's right to live. The main point is that all lives need to be considered but they don't accept the baby as a "LIFE" unless it is outside of the womb. Not only that, to say "John Roberts doesn't care" implies that Roberts would then be insensitive to women's rights.

The President of Pro-Life Mississippi, Terri Herring said "I think it should be uncomfortable to be able to go in some place and kill your unborn baby".

You tell it Terri!

Quotes by a Clinic owner:

> "People unaware of what's going on and how Women are suffering"

> "Can't find enough doctors willing to perform the procedure".

> "Terminating the pregnancy requires strength and courage"

Pan to poverty

"More then a third of the city's population lives in poverty, infant mortality rate is almost two times the national average and 75% of babies born here are born to single mothers, many of whom are teenagers".

A female doctor then talks about poverty in Mississippi compared to America. She says "a lot of the girls come in pregnant because they didn't have access to birth control".

Pro-Aborts frequently bring up poverty and population control as an important reason for birth control and abortion. Margaret Sanger anyone?

Women make the decision to have sex and get pregnant and somehow we're supposed to believe that they are pregnant because they don't have access to birth control? They are the ones in control in the first place. Someone should inform the world that babies don't come from a stork!

Doctor - "Most of the girls are of the mind that once they become pregnant that there are no options except for them to have the baby".

I would certainly hope that human beings understand that there are no options except for them to have the baby!

Just a quick throw-in. Isn't it funny how during the Vietnam war the peaceniks called soldiers "baby killers" and those same peaceniks today are the ones pushing for abortion rights?

Woman with children - "In the Mississippi Delta it's not realistic. Stuff like that don't happen here. We don't have clinics like that here. Young girls have 3 or 4 children because they can't afford abortion. If you don't have money, if you're living on welfare or on Medicaid, you have to deal with it, you have to deal with that baby."

Yes, you do have to deal with that baby. That baby is a living human being and because of abortion, humanity is losing it's relavance and meaning. Post Roe vs Wade we have become "things". Things we can grow, things we can kill. Things we can experiment on.

In reference to the fact that the state and the United States government don't pay for abortions, the attorney Kathryn Kolbert says "How can the government decide not to pay for something that's a perfectly legal procedure?"

Sex changes are legal in California. Should America pay for those? And what about other extreme procedures? Why should a person who believes abortion is murder have to pay for a person to murder her child?

Doctor says "a lot of these women do want to be pregnant, and if you don't want to be pregnant and you're in denial. Just having the ability to make the choice just to say that this is something that she would want to continue with is going to make all the difference in terms of the outcome of the pregnancy".

Terri Herring - "We don't feel bad that people in the Delta can't have an abortion. To say that we want to be sure that poor women can get their abortions, like we're doing them a favor by helping them kill their baby is just not okay with me. It's not acceptable to make that to seem something so bad. "Helping and supporting their children is not helping them kill their babies".

----

Announcer & various statements in the show:

> "...the options for these women are limited"

> "young girls have 3 or 4 children because they can't afford abortion"

> "many of the women White sees come to her with unplanned pregnancies"

> "a lot of these women do not want to be pregnant just having the ability to make the choice...will make all the difference in the outcome of the pregnancy"

Helping and supporting poor women is not helping them kill their babies.

Abortion clinic owner - "The disconnect between the pre-born and the post-born"

"Let's pick on abortion" - Pro-abortion attorney

Abortion clinic consultant - "the bulk of our doctors come from out of state - they fly in and fly out"

Over 200 regulations in place across America

----

The final words of the show spoken by the Clinic owner:

"The assault on abortion rights is very clever, it's very smart, and we are losing."

Play spooky music here! (not in the show though, they showed people praying outside a clinic)

That last line is a big reason for us Pro-Lifers to cheer!

We have to remember who "The Last Abortion Clinic" was made for though. It wasn't made for Pro-Life America and it wasn't made for pro-choice America. In my opinion it was made for the rest of America, and because the folks at PBS are typically more left-leaning, it was made to show how religious extremist anti-choice zealots are trying to take away women's rights.

Join us at MarchTogether.com and help beat abortion. Even with the successes you have just read about, four thousand people will still die today.

United we stand - Divided we die - Pass it on

Another concern regarding the program - not once do I recall anyone making any statements regarding the mental/physical/emotional/spiritual ramifications of abortion or the fact that women regret abortion. Yet another reason why abortion rights are unhealthy for women and children - another downside to abortion and why it needs to end. Also, I would like to see pro-lifers to the rescue in the Delta - A number of adoption agencies jump on a plane to offer services to those that stated that now they "need to deal with the child" - there are others that are happy to deal with the child. Furthermore, I would like to have media coverage that would cover such a rescue.

Thanks for doing the dirty work. I intentionally didn't watch the program because I know how the media is going to position every argument and I didn't feel like getting angry. Please pray for, The Christmas Village, a new ministry in Mississippi that is building a residential campus for women who choose to bring life from a crisis pregnancy.
