RE: Election 2005 – What’s On the Ballot
Dear Friends,
The purpose of this email is to alert you to the items that will be on the ballot next Tuesday.
On Tuesday, November 8, registered Virginians will participate in a General Election to elect a Governor, Lieutenant Governor, Attorney General, members of the House of Delegates, and decide if Loudoun County should go further in debt. The polls are open from 6:00 a.m. to 7:00 p.m. Full information on the election can be found at:
www.loudoun.gov/government/voting.htm
This is a very important election for those who are concerned about the unborn, taxes, and other family issues.
The following may be useful in making your decisions.
Candidates for Governor: VOTE KILGORE
Three candidates are running for Governor:
Jerry W. Kilgore, Republican
Timothy M. Kaine, Democrat
Russ Potts, Jr., Independent
Conservatives should vote for Jerry Kilgore.
Tim Kaine is the current Democrat Lt. Governor of Virginia.
Russ Potts, Jr. is a State Senator and is running as an Independent. He is a kook and I will not dignify his two-faced policy positions with any serious analysis. He has been on both sides of the abortion issue, both sides of the tax issue, both side of the homeschooling issue, and both sides of membership in the Republican Party.
KILGORE is the former Attorney General and has been endorsed by a number of important organizations including the Virginia Society for Human Life PAC, the National Right to Life PAC, the Fairfax Chamber of Commerce, the Northern Virginia Technology Council, the Fraternal Order of Police, the National Federation of Independent Business, the National Rifle Association, the Virginia Association of Realtors, and the Virginia Conservative Action PAC.
On life: Kilgore opposes the 1973 Supreme Court decision that legalized abortion on demand and he supports legal protection for unborn children. As Virginia Attorney General, supported and defended the authentic ban on partial-birth abortion, the Partial-Birth Infanticide Law. He supports requiring facilities that perform abortions to be licensed and subject to the same regulations as outpatient surgical hospitals.
Tim Kaine supports the 1973 Supreme Court decision that legalized abortion on demand -- even as a method of birth control. He also opposes the Partial-Birth Infanticide Law.
On Guns: Kilgore gets an “A” rating from the NRA. Kaine gets an “F.”
On Taxes: Conservative hero, State Senator Ken Cuccinelli says, “After Governor Warner broke (in spectacular fashion) his major campaign promise, namely, not to raise our taxes, the issue of taxes has become the premier issue in Virginia politics. Mr. Kilgore has vowed to veto further tax increases while Mr. Kaine says "we still need more." Mr. Kilgore opposed the 2004 tax increases while Mr. Kaine supported them. Three days after the vote for higher taxes, Mr. Warner revealed for the first time that Virginia had a surplus of more than $1 billion — the same amount that Virginia taxes had just been raised. Jerry has also laid out a plan to rein in runaway property taxes. The choice for those who oppose tax increases must be a vote for Jerry Kilgore.
On education: Jerry Kilgore education choice, including home schooling, and will establish an Education Tax Credit of up to $500 per child to be used by parents for non-tuition education related expenses. Kaine has been endorsed by the Virginia Education Union.
Candidates for Lieutenant Governor: VOTE BOLLING
Two candidates are running for Lt. Governor:
William T. "Bill" Bolling, Republican
Leslie L. Byrne, Democrat
Conservatives should vote for Bill Bolling. He is a conservative leader of the Virginia State Senate.
Leslie Byrne is a member of the Virginia State Senate, is a former member of the House of Representatives, and the House of Delegates. She is VERY liberal.
On Life: Bolling has been a strong pro-life leader. During his 10 years in the Virginia Senate, he compiled a 100 % pro-life voting record. He opposes partial-birth abortion and he voted for parental notification. He co-sponsored the Fetal Pain Awareness Bill and the Abortion Clinic Licensing and Regulation Bill.
Leslie Byrne has compiled a 0% pro-life voting record. She voted against a ban on partial-birth abortion and against parental notification. During her time in Congress, she voted to allow federal tax funding of abortion. She supports abortion on demand -- even as a method of birth control.
On Marriage: Bolling Opposes gay marriage and civil unions and voted for a Constitutional Amendment to protect marriage. Byrne supports gay marriage and civil unions and opposed a Constitutional Amendment to protect marriage.
On Taxes: Bolling Wants to keep taxes low. He voted against the largest tax increase in Virginia history and voted to repeal the death tax to protect small businesses and family farmers. Bolling voted to prevent illegal immigrants from getting in state tuition and other benefits at taxpayer expense, and supported a Constitutional Amendment to prevent highway funds from being spent for other purposes.
Byrne supported the largest tax increase in Virginia history and while in Congress, voted for the largest tax increase in United States History. She voted against repeal of the death tax and voted to use taxpayer money to provide benefits to illegal immigrants. Byrne opposed a Constitutional Amendment to prevent highway funds from being spent for other purposes.
Candidates for Attorney General: VOTE McDONNELL
Two candidates are running for Attorney General:
Robert F. "Bob" McDonnell, Republican
R. Creigh Deeds, Democrat
Conservatives should vote for Bob McDonnell. He is a conservative leader in the Virginia House of Delegates.
Creigh Deeds is a state Senator and former member of the House of Delegates and a former Commonwealth Attorney.
On Life: Bob McDonnell, during his 13 years in the Virginia House of Delegates, has compiled a 100 % pro-life voting record. He was co-sponsor of the Partial-Birth Infanticide Law and the 2004 Fetal Pain Awareness Bill. McDonnell sponsored Parental Notification, Parental Consent, and Informed Consent Laws.
Creigh Deeds voted for amendments, which would make meaningless the Partial-Birth Infanticide Law, the Parental Notification Law, and the Informed Consent Law.
On Taxes: McDonnell did not support Governor Warner’s massive tax increase. Deeds did. In his 14 years in the House of Delegates, Bob McDonnell has established a record of successfully fighting to cut taxes on Virginia families, individuals, and businesses. In that time he has been a leader in the fight to implement 16 different tax cuts worth over $1.5 billion in annual tax relief. In 2003, Bob was a chief sponsor of legislation to eliminate Virginia’s death (estate) tax.
On Crime: McDonnell is a strong law and order advocate, and spearheaded proposals to increase the punishment of sexual predators. Creigh Deeds has a very different record on public safety issues, particularly when it comes to punishment of violent sex offenders. In addition to supporting a moratorium on the death penalty and in addition to supporting more liberal rights for prisoners, Deeds has a weak record on making sure that child sex offenders were locked away when he was Commonwealth’s Attorney in Bath County.
Deeds has come down AGAINST a mandatory minimum 25-year sentence for violent child sex offenders and life imprisonment for repeat offenses.
On guns: The National Rifle Association endorsed state Sen. Creigh Deeds They issued the endorsement along with an "A" rating, citing his impressive legislative record supporting Second Amendment rights and sportsmen's issues.
