One thing you can say about the majority of the Democrats in America, they know where they stand on abortion. They are opposed to ending it no matter what.
Period.
Not so with Republicans. You get so much double-speak out of them on the Pro-Life issue you have to constantly check what their current position is on it.
I got an email response to a message I sent to George Allen, a Republican Senator from Virginia. What he had to say showed me that we don't understand what the word "conservative" means anymore.
The two definitions at dictionary.com that come closest to what "conservative" means to me are "opposed to liberal reforms" and "One favoring traditional views and values."
They are both basically the same.
The problem is they don't really say what being a conservative in politics really means.
I know there are many pieces to the word "conservative", like politics, economics, environment and so on, but since I am addressing this from a Pro-Life perspective. I want to keep that focus.
I believe being a conservative means that we should try to maintain a structure of morals and values while protecting human dignity and human life. I also believe there are moral absolutes, one of which is that abortion is murder and we need to stop killing the unborn.
Here is what he said to me in response to my request that he do all he can to end abortion:
I have for many years supported reasonable measures to moderate some of the excesses of abortion practices. As a member of the United States Senate, I was a co-sponsor of the Partial-Birth Abortion Ban Act, which the President recently signed into law. This legislation prohibits any physician or other individual from knowingly performing a partial-birth abortion. The American Medical Association also opposes this gruesome late-term abortion and says that it is akin to infanticide. Over the years, I have consistently opposed taxpayer funding for elective abortions except the cases of rape, incest, or endangerment of the mother’s life.
How many different ways can you say you don't oppose abortion in one sentence? I think George Allen set a record.
1) supported not sponsored
2) reasonable not complete
3) measures not complete
4) moderate not end
5) excesses not all
Obviously he didn't read the part in the Bible that says:
Revelation 3:13-16 He that hath an ear, let him hear what the Spirit saith unto the churches. And unto the angel of the church of the Laodiceans write; These things saith the Amen, the faithful and true witness, the beginning of the creation of God; know thy works, that thou art neither cold nor hot: I would thou wert cold or hot. So then because thou art lukewarm, and neither cold nor hot, I will spue thee out of my mouth.
We don't need to "moderate" abortion, we end it!
That makes 3 "Republican" representatives in Virginia who have no b___s and take a partial moral stand against the horror of abortion.
George Allan joins John Warner

and Frank Wolf

They are all "lukewarm" Republicans who will only do what is popular.
This is why we put together MarchTogether.com, in order to unite those who know abortion is wrong and who don't try to find a middle road to go down. It's unfortunate our representatives in Virginia don't believe in words like those found in H.R. 552.

"To implement equal protection under the 14th article of amendment to the Constitution for the right to life of each born and preborn human person."
Are you ready to end the slaughter of 4,000 human beings a day? Don't be "lukewarm". Join us at MarchTogether.com and help do all you can to end it.
United we stand - Divided they die - Pass it on

Hey if there is one thing about writing and emailing politicians is that... THATS WHAT YOU GET FROM ALL OF THEM. Sorry you don't get to have somebody like whats his face that wants the death penalty for abortion women. Here's the thing even if you get Huckabee there will still be abortion in america. After Roe is turned it gets sent to the states because even an extremely conservative fed gov. wont institute a national law on it, but they will continue to do what they are doing and what Allen did. He fricken co-signed the partial birth ban bill what else can you ask from him. If we don't unite under Allen for 08 we'll end up with Guiliani or McCain who are pro choice. Don't sh** on a man that is going to take care of you.
I will vote for the most Pro-Life individual who runs that also has my conservative values. Then I will challenge him to be Pro-Life.
Republicans up now haven't been the party of death. If they head down the road of abortion, euthanasia and stem cell research, all they will be is the party of money.
Dear Peter:
You're an idiot. That looks like a form letter from his Senate office - perhaps you should check his voting record in the Senate, House and as Gov. of Virginia.
It is people like you that really hurt the pro-life movement when you waste your time attacking people like George Allen. Why don't you worry about those that have no respect for life?
Dear anonymous,
Have the courage to use a real name and real email wouldja?
"That looks like a form letter from his Senate office"
The Senator of Virginia sends out a form letter which proves he is lukewarm against abortion and you call me an idiot? It's his office, shouldn't he know what goes out the door!?
"I have for many years supported reasonable measures to moderate some of the excesses of abortion practices."
This was his strongest statement against abortion.
You don't "moderate some of the excesses of abortion practices", you end abortion.
Pro-Life means Pro-Life, not Pro-some-lives
His record is fantastic when it comes to everything but ending abortion. I don't see any evidence other than that.
The strongest statement I can find by his is this one:
"As a U.S. Senator, I will work and vote for an end to partial birth abortion in America. Partial birth abortion is performed late in the pregnancy. It is not medically justifiable, and it is barbaric."
I am Pro-Life - all the lives, not just the ones who are taken at late-term. When a man steps up and says it is time to end abortion then you know he is Pro-Life. When a man steps up and wants to end "some" of the abortions he is not Pro-Life.
The term Pro-Life has to mean something or it means nothing.
