As Tim pointed out in "Abortion Stance Draws Filibuster Threat" the Dems are beginning to posture for a filibuster on Judge Alito. Joe Biden said "I think he's got a lot of explaining to do,".
Ruth Bader Ginsberg flew through the nomination process even though she made comments like this one:
"I will rest my answer on the Casey decision, which says in the end it’s her body, her life, and men - to that extent - are not similarly situated. They don’t bear the child."
Notice she said "the child", admitting that a human being is what she has no problem killing out of convenience.
We sure don't carry the child, but people like her obviously aren't responsible enough to make life and death decisions. A person in the womb deserves to live, not be decided on like which brand of cereal to have this morning.
Republicans must have backbone on the abortion issue. If there was ever a time in history, now is the time. There cannot be a double-standard. If the Dems make it the case that any person who is nominated for Supreme Court must be pro-abortion, Republicans will have to go morally underground and/or lose that important piece of morality in order to function in government.

Why is it that "pro-life" advocates are so quick to characterize the choice to terminate a pregnancy as being done out of "convenience"? There are many valid medical reasons to terminate a pregnancy. Calling a fetus by one name or other does not make it what it is not. It is not a matter of convenience or inconvenience. It is a serious medical matter that every woman has the right to decide for herself. It is on this reality that Ms. Bader-Ginsberg was basing her decision. If you don't want to terminate a pregnancy simply don't do it. Under the existing laws no one will force you to have an abortion.
To "choose" to kill someone is still murder.
Besides, there are 1.3 million human beings killed by abortion in America alone every year. Do you think they are "medical matters"?
I don't think so.
The most common reason for abortion is birth control. That's really sad don't you think?
Choosechoice, in fact a majority of abortions is about convenience rather than medical conditions or rape. It is taking a life as a form of birth control.
It's a bit deceptive to present the pro-choice view as treating a decision to abort as a decision about what kind of cereal to have for breakfast. People who seek abortions struggle through the decision and almost never have entirely positive attitudes toward it. It's often seen as a last resort and usually seen as a lesser of two evils. Until pro-life people realize this, we're going to see a lot less progress in convincing pro-choicers that their view is wrong, because they'll see pro-lifers as unaware of the realities of abortion decisions. And they'll be accurately assessing pro-lifers in many cases. Shame on us for allowing that.
RE: "It's a bit deceptive to present the pro-choice view as treating a decision to abort as a decision about what kind of cereal to have for breakfast."
The point is that abortion is not and should not be a choice.
"unaware of the realities of abortion decisions"
I am fully aware that there is NO decision. Killing a child in the womb is wrong. We should not ever teach that a child is a "choice".
"It's often seen as a last resort and usually seen as a lesser of two evils"
Having a baby is not evil. Shame on you for suggesting it is. Aborting / killing the child is the only evil. Delivering a child is a blessing.
