Abortion: October 25, 2005
Support the Right to Life Act 2005

WASHINGTON, October 25, 2005 (LifeSiteNews.com) – On February 2, 2005, Congressman Duncan Hunter (R-CA) introduced the Right to Life Act of 2005, which, if passed, would amend the U.S. Constitution to provide for the right to life for each born and pre-born human person, according to an Operation Rescue (OR) news release. “This legislation would literally STOP abortion in America – all abortion – because the Constitution would guarantee the right to life for the pre-born,” OR emphasized.

The proposed legislation to make abortion illegal has been introduced to Congress by Hunter every year since 1997 after he agreed to take over from former Orange County Rep. Bob Dornan, who introduced the measure each year throughout his tenure in the 1990s. The proposed bill, HR 552, aims, “To implement equal protection under the 14th article of amendment to the Constitution for the right to life of each born and preborn human person.”

OR maintains that 2005 is different from past years because “The culture in America is undergoing a remarkable change and is increasingly uncomfortable with abortion on demand. The Pro-life Movement is especially making great gains among the younger generation, which is more pro-life that ever before. In fact, for the first time in decades, the majority of Americans consider themselves pro-life!”

A Zogby poll released in January confirmed that, “by a 53% to 36% margin, the public supports the statement, ‘Abortion destroys a human life and is manslaughter.’”

“Political and cultural conditions are the most favorable they have ever been for legislation that would amend the Constitution and restore the legal protections of personhood to the pre-born,” OR argues. “We must get America talking about the personhood of the pre-born and the all-important question of when life begins. This is a debate the abortion lobby fears more than anything because they know it is a debate we will always win!”

OR calls on pro-life Americans to do three things:

  • To contact your Congressman, encouraging him or her to sign on as a co-sponsor. "Currently there are 68 co-sponsors, more than there have ever been! But more are needed to give this bill the kind of respectability that will motivate Congressional action."

Click here to view the current list of co-sponsors.

Click here to contact your representative.

  • Contact Congressman Jim Sensenbrenner (R-WI) and ask him to schedule hearings on the Right to Life Act of 2005. Rep. Sensenbrenner is the Chairman of the House Judiciary Committee. It is within his power to schedule hearings or kill this bill through neglect. “It is guaranteed that he will not act UNLESS HE HEARS FROM US! Congress has reconvened this week, and all representatives at their Washington DC offices now.”

    Congressman Jim Sensenbrenner:

      E-mail: sensenbrenner@mail.house.gov
Phone in Washington DC: (202) 225-5101

  • Forward this message to your friends and family and ask them to do the same.

See more on the Zogby poll.

Addendum:

Troy Newman writes,

There has never been a better opportunity to pass legal protections for the pre-born that now. We know not everyone can protest against abortion, or drive a Truth Truck, or hold a graphic sign. But everyone CAN and SHOULD make two phone calls or write two e-mails asking for co-sponsorship and hearings for the Right to Life Act of 2005.

If you were actually prolife, you would not support George Bush. You would be protesting the war in Iraq, not eating meat, and trying to help underprivledged people.
You throw a fit when they try to remove life support from someone who literally has nothing but a brain stem, and you bomb abortion clinics, but do you cry for all the homeless children who die from simple medical problems because they don't have access to healthcare. Or all the other innocent people who are killed everyday? No!
Just a reminder, if you eat eggs, you're eating babies who never had a chance to live. But I guess you don't care, because they can't go to church, or vote for George Bush, who promotes a culture of death all the time.

It is unfortunate that you oppose the protection of unborn babies on the basis of an absurd ad hominem attack, presumptuous allegations of hypocrisy not worth answering and by accusing me of eating meat and eggs (on this one point you are correct - I'm not a vegetarian). Forty-five million babies have been killed. Surely, considering the value you place on a single chicken egg, you would be willing to join me in supporting a law that protects children from murder.

I am prolife. I think abortion should only be used in cases of rape, incest, or if the mother's life is in danger. I also think war, and poverty are wrong. I care about all life, human or not. I cry for all the babies killed in Iraq, all the children who die from lack of healthcare, and poverty. I care about babies before they are born, like you, but I still care about them after they are born. If you say you are prolife, you should encompass all of these things, and appreciate all life. To say you only want to save babies from being murdered, you are only anti-abortion, not prolife.
45 million babies are killed through abortion, but do you care about all the innocent lives lost in Iraq? Or all the innocent lives lost here everyday? What about all the babies who are murdered after they are born? Do you care about them too? It's doesn't seem like it to me...

"If you say you are prolife, you should encompass all of these things, and appreciate all life To say you only want to save babies from being murdered, you are only anti-abortion, not prolife" - this is a complete mischaracterization of the authors and pro-life readers of this site and is a typical red herring argument by those who support abortion (e.g., you can't say abortion is wrong because you haven't said X is wrong to the same extent). 45 million, almost double the population of Iraq, have been murdered.
