Two embryonic stem cell studies in mice are receiving wide media attention today, because embryonic-like stem cells have been derived reportedly without killing embryos. In one study, a single cell was removed from an eight-cell mouse embryo. That one cell was developed into embryonic-like stem cells, while the remaining embryo was implanted and developed to term.
