In a press release today, Pro-Life Wisconsin commended St. Luke Catholic Parish in Brookfield, WI for cancelling an upcoming ‘American Girl’ fundraiser that featured the company’s dolls and clothing.
American Girl has come under increased public pressure from Christians and others concerned about moral issues after it decided to fund Girls, Inc., an organization that promotes legalized abortion and contraception.
“America is beginning to wake up,” said Peggy Hamill, Pro-Life Wisconsin State Director. “The pro-abortion, pro-contraception juggernaut has long been fueled by backroom deals and corporate contributions just like the partnership between American Girl and Girls, Inc."
Father Malloy published a written statement in St. Luke’s Parish Bulletin explaining that though the parish will lose an opportunity to raise funds for their parochial school, they cannot afford to compromise their ethics. “Everyone competes for fundraising dollars, but the pursuit of funds can’t come at the cost of our integrity,” wrote Fr. Malloy. “We are a Catholic School and we do have core values of faith and tradition. These we pass on to our young people – it’s why we have a school.”
According to Pro-Life Wisconsin, Father Malloy and his parishioners have set an excellent example of placing principle over profit. The parish sacrificed possibly thousands of dollars to take a stand for life. Such courage will most likely not, however, go unrewarded. “It would only take a few people who decide not to purchase an American Girl doll, and instead send their money to St. Luke for the parish to recoup their losses,” said Hamill.
“Fr. Malloy certainly isn’t alone,” added Hamill. “Pro-Life Wisconsin has heard from supporters like Fr. Malloy from across the state. Parents who have purchased American Girl dolls in the past are saying they feel betrayed and are even asking us about American Girl’s return policy. It’s obvious that the parishioners at St. Luke represent only the tip of the iceberg when it comes to those who are angry at American Girl and their affiliation with Girls, Inc.”

You pro-lifers are NOT pro-family. You represent death and destruction of family values. You are the most evil cancer upon this nation. You are the evil that infects us. You are regressive monsters. May God strike you down as you sleep. God will indeed wreck revenge upon your souls and you will be with Satan forever.
You are the evil. You are the monsters. Any people who seek to deny other people rights are without redemption. You are worthless pieces of s***.
This has to be one of the most irrational comments I've ever seen. Speaking up on behalf of babies that are murdered is evil, monsterous and deserving of the wrath of God???? Name calling when the life of a child is at stake is unpersuasive and the use of profanity does nothing except discredit your point (which appears to be all pro-lifers are evil).
As someone who is actually pro-life, I am outraged by this "stand". Thanks to this boycott, I now look silly for being pro-life and I am embarrassed that I am in any way, shape, or form, linked to this debacle. If you want to boycott the "I Can" bracelet, that is one thing. But the entire American Girl line? Why stop there, since Mattel owns American Girl. While I collect many types of dolls, the American Girl line is still a great line for conservatives. The line should atleast be judged on its own merits. If you have a problem with Girls, Inc, then that is where the focus should be directed. Since American Girl is popular with conservatives, I reason that is why it has been chosen as the target, because American Girl products have been supported by conservatives. As for the connection, to Girls, Inc., the bracelets were linked to only three specific programs. I have no interest in the bracelets, but I will make sure to spend my money on American girl products in direct defiance of the boycott and also because I enjoy the American girl line. As for boycotting, I will boycott the organizations behind the American Girl boycott. Of all the reasonable ways there could be to convince people not to have abortions and convince people to be pro-life, this will not win over pro-choice advocates and will also anger a number of pro-lifers who see this as going too far. This boycott only serves to alienate and undermine the pro-life cause.
Gary, American Girls supports abortion, which is child killing, through its “I can” bracelets. You may not agree with the boycott strategy and you may enjoy the company’s dolls, but your outrage is misplaced. And, you are incorrect about why American Girls is being targeted. The boycott is directed at American Girls because its dolls are sold to young girls and, via cooperation with Girls, Inc., it is attempting to promote a pro-abortion mindset among children.
Tim, my name is Gayl. My outrage is not mistaken. I have studied this boycott in great depth and I believe I understand the consequences better than the people who organized the boycott. I am truly embarrassed by this boycott. This is not about being pro-life, this is overeaction. I am not against information and I am not even against a boycott of the actual bracelet if people want to take a stand. Even a boycott of Mattel would make more sense if that is the way people feel. But a boycott of the entire American Girl line is the wrong target and a boycott is simply the wrong approach. You may feel that you will be fighting the pro-choice people on this, but I guarantee you that I am not the only pro-lifer who finds this boycott to be a disgrace. I commend you for taking a stand, but you are standing on the wrong platform. I am also making a stand, a stand to not have my pro-life beliefs undermined by sillyness and distractions.
