All men are possessed of equal and inalienable natural rights, among which are life, liberty, and the pursuit of happiness." - Kansas State Constitution
Some government officials in Kansas are acting on the principles of their state’s constitution by asking for a ruling that would stop tax dollars from funding abortion. The request came in a lawsuit filed last Tuesday by Kansas Attorney General Phill Kline seeking to block the state’s ability to finance abortions through Medicaid.
"At the very moment of fertilization, a new, unique and genetically distinct human being is formed, distinct from its host while dependent upon her," said the petition. By allowing the abortions, the petition says, "the expenditure of Kansas funds as reimbursement for elective pregnancy terminations involve the state of Kansas in the destruction of the lives of ‘men’ without due process."
"There is no legal defense for the state of Kansas to spend one cent on elective abortion," said Elmer Feldkamp, president of Right to Life Kansas Inc. in a Lawrence Journal World Article. "Such expenditures must be stopped. We heartily support the Attorney General's efforts to see to it that all human beings, born and preborn, are protected from the criminal act of abortion subsidized by the taxpayers of our great state," Feldkamp said.
Update: Fr. Frank Pavone, national director of Priests for Life, commented today on the action by Kansas Attorney General Phill Kline.
"The Attorney General is doing the right thing," said Fr. Pavone. "We don't help the poor by helping them kill their children. Moreover, there is no known disease that abortion has ever cured."

This would be great news.
It is awesome to see continue to make small incremental strides on our way towards eliminating abortion.
OH, yeah! As a former Kansan, I say, go Phil Kline!
