With the retirement of Supreme Court Justice Sandra Day O'Connor there is great hope that President Bush will nominate a new justice who will respect the sanctity of human life and the liberty of the individual.
Justice O’Connor was the deciding vote to uphold Roe v. Wade in 1992. She was also the swing vote to curtail the free speech rights of pro-lifers to lobby on behalf of unborn children in the McCain-Feingold campaign reform case.
While pro-lifers look forward to her replacement President Bush has stated he will not use abortion or any other issue as a litmus test for selecting a nominee. Instead, he pledges to nominate a "strict constructionist". Sen. Orrin Hatch (R-Utah) suggests what most commentators expect, simply that Bush will nominate a conservative.
Supporters of abortion are already organizing for a battle and their sympathizers in the Senate have promised to filibuster any nominee who opposes legalization of abortion. [more here]
At this time it is critical that pro-life voices be heard. The President’s nominee and subsequent Senate confirmation will affect this country for generations.
Here is what you can do:
First, ask the President Bush to nominate a person that will resist the judicial tyranny of our generation and uphold the constitutional of the United States, which affords to each individual (including those yet to be born) life, liberty and the pursuit of happiness.
