Christian Coalition of America urges Christian Coalition activists to immediately call their Congressmen to urge them to vote against H.R. 810 -- a bill which will destroy human embryos -- sponsored by left-wing Congressmen Michael Castle, (R-DE) and Diana DeGette, (D-CO). Their bill -- to be voted on tonight on the floor of the U.S. House of Representatives -- will overturn President Bush's policy announced in 2001 barring federal funding of research that would require killing human embryos. Christian Coalition will score this as a pro-abortion vote in its 2005 Congressional Scorecard.
President Bush said on May 20th when announcing his intention to veto H.R. 810 if it passes the U.S. House of Representatives and reaches his desk, "I'm very concerned about cloning. I worry about a world in which cloning becomes acceptable." He went on to say, "I made my position very clear on embryonic stem cells. I'm a strong supporter of adult stem cell research, of course. But I made it very clear to the Congress that the use of federal money, taxpayers' money, to promote science which destroys life in order to save life is -- I'm against that."
Christian Coalition of America does support H.R. 2520, the "Stem Cell Therapeutic and Research Act" sponsored by Congressman Chris Smith, (R-NJ), to be voted on before the vote on the Castle/DeGette Human Embryo Destruction bill. The Smith bill, H.R. 2520, will establish a new federal program to make stem cells extracted from umbilical cord blood available to patients who need them. Embryonic stem cell destruction research has produced zero successes in curing diseases whereas breakthroughs in adult stem cell research are occurring very frequently and rapidly.
Time is of the essence. The vote on H.R. 810, the Castle/DeGette Human Embryo Destruction bill will be voted on sometime this evening.
Here is the Action Item that needs to be accomplished immediately:
Call the U.S. Capitol switchboard at 202-225-3121 or you can go to http://www.cc.org/contactcongress.cfm and urge your Congressmen to vote against H. R. 810, on Tuesday night. Tell them that Christian Coalition will be scoring this important vote in the 2005 Congressional Scorecard.
Please keep the above issue in your prayers. Through prayer great and mighty things can be accomplished.
