Unless a small group of senators comes up with a compromise --which pro-life groups are saying would hinder our cause – the Senate will vote on Tuesday to determine whether to change the rules on filibusters.

The outcome of this conflict could have significant implications for vote on future nominees to the Supreme Court.

As you know, we're just two votes away from having our first chance in 13 years to overturn the Roe v. Wade decision that legalized abortion. We need to be in a position to approve the nomination of a judge who understands that the landmark decision is nothing more than legal fiction.

Meanwhile, on the House side, members will also vote on Tuesday to determine whether or not our tax dollars should be used to pay for embryonic stem cell research.

HB 810 would overturn President Bush's policy of not funding any new embryonic stem cell research and preferring adult stem cells over embryonic ones that involve destroying the lives of unborn children in their earliest days.

This crucial vote could be the start of years of such funding and could boost the cause of scientists who engage in human cloning if they can show that a branch of Congress supports their work.

We must head this vote off at the pass and your last-minute calls and faxes are crucial to do this.
